Recap HLMS Holiday Party 2023 Thanks to all the Crosby Scholar students that came to the HLMS Holiday Party!

Students had the opportunity to hear from Hispanic League board member, Brajan Funes, on his journey as a high school student and how his life experiences after high school led him to return to college and pursue a degree in business. Misael Castillo (Class of 2023), Emanuel Lopez- Higuera (Class of 2023), and Sebastian Del Campo (Class of 2022) were among the Crosby alumni who came back and spoke to students about their current college experiences. Students later engaged in a night of fun holiday games and activities and had the opportunity to win many prizes. ********************************************** Gracias a todos los estudiantes que vinieron a la fiesta invierna de Crosby Scholars. Los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de escuchar el testimonio de Brajan Funes, que trabaja con la Liga Hispana, sobre sus experiencias posescolares y como tomo la decision de regresar a estudiar de nuevo. Tambien tuvimos tres veteranos de Crosby: Misael Castillo, Emmanuel Lopez, y Sebastian Del Campo que vineron hablar sobre sus experiencias en sus universidades y dar tips sobre como aplicar a la universidad .

Financial Literacy Event- Dr. Cain, WSSU Crosby Scholars HLMS tendrá un evento para los estudiantes varones hispanos de 6th-10th grado. La Doctora Carol Cain, profesora de Economía en Winston Salem State University vendrá hablar con los estudiantes sobre las finanzas y como hay que tener buen crédito cuando uno busca préstamos en un banco.

También escucharan testimonios sobre las experiencias universitaries de estudiantes que asisten a WSSU. Nuestros estudiantes de Crosby Scholars que asistan a este evento cumplirán con el requisito de la academia. ****************************************************** Crosby Scholars HLMS will have an event for its students in the 6th-10th grade.

Dr. Carol Cain, professor of Economics from WSSU, will come and speak to students about finances and how to obtain good credit. WSSU students will also share their college testimonies with our Crosby students. Our Crosby students that attend this event will receive academy credit.

Esta conferencia se toma acabo en Washington D.C donde los estudiantes aprenden sobre las habilidades necesarias para conseguir empleo, conectarlos con varias compañías que buscan trabajadores y oportunidades de servicio.

Crosby Requirements As a Crosby Scholar in grades 6-10, you are expected to complete just three requirements each year:

✔️ Students must attend one (1) Crosby Scholars Academy throughout the

academic year. Academies are held in a variety of different ways - Virtually on Zoom, in-person at school, Goodwill of Northwest NC or at Forsyth Technical Community College. Academy dates are announced in early October. Students must register for Academies in their Crosby Scholars Student Portal.

✔️ Students should complete and submit two (2) or more hours of

community service by April 2024. Once your hours are completed, please submit the online community service form. Check out the Student Community Service box on our website for community service ideas and events. You may turn in your online community service form at any time, and your parent or guardian can be listed to verify your hours – You do not need to wait until the deadline!

✔️ Students should avoid receiving Out-of-School Suspension. This

suspension violates the Crosby Scholars program requirements and Partnership Agreement signed when enrolling in the Crosby Scholars Community Partnership. Receiving out-of-school suspension will result in dismissal from the Crosby Scholars Program.

Bio Originalmente soy de San Miguel de Allende Gto., México pero crecí casi toda mi vida en Winston-Salem, NC. Fui a Jefferson Middle School y Early College of Forsyth para la high school. Recibí mi bachillerato en teología de Belmont Abbey College y mi maestría en teología de la Universidad de Notre Dame. Este es mi segundo año trabajando con los estudiantes hispanos de Crosby Scholars. Espero proveerles buena información y eventos educativos para poder ayudar a sus hijos en cumplir sus sueños académicos. ¡Cualquier pregunta que tengan sobre el programa me dejan saber!
