Summer Recap

Despite another famously hot Columbia summer, our hard working construction team and volunteers did not cool off building and repairing homes. Our 2023 Women Build was completed and concluded with a large Home Dedication for homeowner, Jazenia, and her family.

We also made significant progress towards completing two additional new homes, completed repairs on two existing homes and began repairing four additional homes.

In July, sponsors and the Habitat Board of Directors had a great time building and decorating playhouses for children of Habitat homeowners during our first ever “Project Play House” event.

For more information about getting involved in our next Project Play House event on December 9th, please click on the link below:

Staff Spotlight

In 2021, Michael Chappell, joined the CSC Habitat staff, as the Neighborhood Revitalization Manager.

Tell us about your role as Neighborhood Revitalization Manager

Neighborhood Revitalization is all about community development influenced by our quality-of-life framework. The elements within the framework consist of Health, Housing, Safety, Education, Amenities, Transportation and Economic Opportunity

As a manager, my day-to-day focuses on how to implement these elements within a community in efforts to create long-term sustainable positive change. Whenever we are funded in areas other than a specific neighborhood, we utilize the housing elements and coordinate affordable home repairs for residents and Veterans in Richland, Fairfield and Lexington County

What do you like to do in your free time?

My most enjoyable free time activities are watching a good TV show and spending time with my two daughters.
