Cheltenham Silver Band (CSB) is 86 years old, forming in 1937 as the work’s band of the Aircraft Components Limited (which later became a part of Dowty Equipment Ltd) & becoming the independent Cheltenham Spa Silver band in 1946. Cheltenham Silver Band as it is known now, is a registered charity entirely run by volunteers dedicated to the following primary aims:

 Making music to entertain the Cheltenham area community;

 Teaching the skill of playing a musical instrument to any person within that community who wishes to learn, without regard to age, gender, background, or any other factor.

 To specifically target teaching children to play without any cost to their family, to give them a lifelong skill & access to peer support throughout their lives.

 To support the community wherever possible, for example at civic events such as Remembrance or local charity fundraising.

CSB perform at a variety of engagements each year, with audiences of up to several thousand people. Events range from ‘bands in the park’ concerts at Cheltenham, Stroud & Evesham, to Christmas concerts & Cheltenham Remembrance Day, the largest commemorative event in Gloucestershire. In addition, the Band runs outreach projects in local schools, running music workshops at no cost for up to 60 children at a time.

The Band has 3 ensembles that can cater for any size event: A beginner band for those who want to learn how to play a brass instrument; the Training band, consisting primarily of younger players, for school/church fetes; & the Main band, made up from around 30 musicians for our major concerts & contests. Players from the three bands combine for larger civic events such as the Remembrance parade & the annual opening of the Lido open air swimming pool, forming a combined band of 40-50 players.
