WELCOME
Early in the planning for Brass in the Park 2024 we knew that we wanted to do something to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Cheltenham-born composer, arranger and teacher Gustav Holst. We quickly realised that there is a wealth of brass band music that has links to Gloucestershire, and so our theme of “Made in Gloucestershire” was born.
All the music we are performing in Hatherley Park on Saturday 22 June has a connection to the County – some of those links are obvious; others might be a little more tenuous. This booklet has been compiled to share a bit more information about the pieces, and why we chose them. Towards the back of the booklet you can also find out about some of the other pieces that fit the theme of the event, but that we couldn’t fit into a two hour programme.
