Setting sail in Lisbon, Portugal’s dynamic capital, relax into life at sea for a day as we cross to the Spanish city of Cádiz, a baroque beauty serving superb seafood. Málaga comes next, a beach city graced with world-class art, then, in Cartagena, uncover the layers of civilization dating from 220BCE. In Alicante, dive into a paella – this is its birthplace – and see the Gothic cathedral in Castellón, our last stop before Barcelona.
Depart San Diego for the vineyards of Ensenada, Mexico, followed by a sea day traveling to the fun resorts of Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta. Refuel on local coffee in Acajutla, El Salvador, before surfing at San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, and a nature trek at Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Our quest starts in lively Barcelona, calling at Toulon, France, for fine sands and art, and glamorous Monte Carlo, on our way to Italy. First stop Livorno, gateway to Florence, then Porto Santo Stefano to see the wild side of Tuscany. We cross to the azure bays of Olbia, Sardinia, and get a flavor of nearby Africa in the trattoria of Trapani, Sicily.
