WE ARE FAMILY
Step aboard one of our ships and you will experience more than seeing the world in sublime comfort, you’ll become part of a very special community, the Crystal Family.

FAMILY – that’s a word you will hear mentioned a lot on Crystal’s ships. There’s a sense of community onboard that both guests and crew will tell you they have not experienced on any other cruise line. It’s why Keith and Anne Marie Steiner have notched up more than 100 cruises in a decade with Crystal. “We’ve tried other cruise lines, but we just love Crystal. The crew feels like family to us; never once have we felt like a number.”
Keith believes this warm sense of belonging is due to Crystal’s greatest strength, the service. “We became ‘Crystalized’ on the first day of our first sailing, when a concierge was helping us with something and said the magic words: ‘Mr. Steiner this is your vacation. Leave this in my hands and we will take care of it for you.’ I realized I would never sail with another cruise line again.”
Kiki Cayton Jones, another long-standing guest, echoes the sentiment. She has been cruising with Crystal since 1986, first with her parents and now with her children and grandchildren. “There’s something about Crystal,” she says. “You go aboard and they remember you, they remember your drink, they knew my parents. It’s just special. These people are like family to us.”

What underpins this feeling of being part of a family? Diogo Kyrillos, Chief Concierge of Crystal Symphony, believes it is because the staff are happy in their work and are, themselves, a strong community. More than 80% of the crew returned to Crystal when the company relaunched in 2023, including Diogo and his wife, Eri Kimura, who also works onboard.
“Crystal is not just one of the best cruise lines to travel with but to work for, too, and that shows naturally in the service we provide,” says Diogo. “My wife and I missed our sea family, so when we learned that most of our friends were coming back, we were very excited. Onboard, we live in an international community with dozens of different nationalities, and I really appreciate the tolerance and respect we show for each other.”
Bong and Nora Corpuz, who work as the printer and a florist, respectively, on Crystal Serenity, know the value Crystal places on family, too. They got married soon after joining Crystal in the early 1990s and have been with the company ever since. “We’ve been treated like family,” says Bong. “Crystal has always tried to keep us together on the same ship and embraced our relationship.” Nora adds: “When we heard the news that Crystal was returning, we were so excited. Our hearts are with Crystal – it is our home away from home.”

It’s a family tradition
Kiki Cayton Jones from California and her daughters, Meagan and Kelsey, like to make a habit of cruising together.
Kiki: “My first cruise was in 1986. My mum and dad had been sailing for some years – they always took the World Cruise. My first cruise with my daughters was in 1990, joining my parents and other family. It’s a family tradition – we love it.
Meagan: “We’ve been on about 12 cruises together as a family, it’s a nice way for us all to get together; we’re not at home so we don’t have the demands or responsibility of being at home.”
Kelsey: “It’s been great to have a contained place for my two young children to have fun and explore on the ship and then to be able to go out and see incredible sights. It’s a very special gift to give our children.”

RELAXING ON THE MEDITERRANEAN
The Master
Celebrated chef Nobu Matsuhisa is the creative force behind the most exciting restaurant at sea, UMI UMA®, exclusive to Crystal’s ships. We asked Chef Nobu how he brought his one-of-a-kind Japanese/Peruvian fusion concept to this unique setting.

How would you describe the UMI UMA experience?
UMI UMA is a mix of homey, friendly, and comfortable, with really good food and service. It is a 60-seat restaurant, so not too big, and, because it’s on a cruise ship, it feels homier – you get to know the same customers every day. What attracted you to working with Crystal to create a restaurant concept at sea?
In the beginning, it was a big challenge for me. We had restaurants in cities, but we had never done one on a cruise ship because I was worried about how I could get fresh products every day. I brought the concept of Matsuhisa, with exactly the same menu and the same service, to Crystal, and little by little started to understand how it could work. How did you find that fresh produce?
When I go to another country I like to see the fish market and vegetable market. I like to find new products and bring them to the restaurant and start cooking. And, as much as possible, I try to use everything and not waste anything. Tell us more about the concept behind UMI UMA?
In the restaurant business, the most important things are good food, good service, and good atmosphere. Design is an important part of that, too. I’m not looking for Michelin-style service at UMI UMA – it’s more casual, with people eating good food while feeling comfortable. Will you be cooking on any of the cruises? Can we expect to see you behind the counter at UMI UMA?
Of course. I go on cruises, and I’m a guest chef. I do cooking demonstrations, and I create new dishes with the chefs in the kitchen. Cooking is my life.
Do you think you’ll ever retire?
I like to keep working and spending time with my team. I like to see my customers as much as possible. You know, life is beautiful, and I enjoy my life. That means no retirement.

WORLD IN MOTION

Another day, another destination. Throw open the curtains to find out what the world has in store for you today. Perhaps the view from your window reveals the sugar-cube dwellings of Santorini scattered around the mouth of its sunken volcano, or the outstretched arms of Christ the Redeemer welcoming you to Rio de Janeiro. That first glimpse from the ship holds so much promise, setting free our adventurous spirit. Another powerful moment; the grand arrival at – or departure from – your next port of call. Few thrills surpass approaching the Manhattan skyline as you enter New York City, for example. And, as you go from port to port, the changing views just keep coming, like the waves that lap the ship, begging your attention at every turn. Watch the treetops pop red, orange and gold as you travel along the coast of New England and eastern Canada in the fall. See powder-white sands melt into turquoise seas as the palms wave you on your way around the islands of the South Pacific, Indonesia, and Caribbean. Witness the Northern Lights dancing above placid fjords and snowcapped mountains in the Arctic. The view from a cruise ship offers a whole new perspective on our beautiful planet.
