FOOD & BEVERAGE

One of the Food & Beverage Team’s ongoing goals is to deliver outstanding service.

We would ask if you wish to have cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before dinner, please plan to arrive 30 - 40 minutes earlier than your requested reservation time. This allows the team to offer a smooth evening to all Members and guests and lets the staff in both the front and back of the house properly prepare.

We appreciate and will always try to accommodate our walk-in guests as best we can in a timely manner; however, priority will always be given to those who make reservations and those who call ahead to ask about seating availability. Just as great restaurants do, we strive to pace our Members and guests for a better flow of service. This improves the timing in the kitchen and minimizes delays. We strive to exceed your expectations and appreciate your support.

SERVICE CHARGE REMINDER

The Club’s service charge is 20%; however, for extraordinary service, you may add an additional tip under the “Extra Tip” category. Bon Appétit!

Commodore’s Corner

Dear CRYC Members,

As the year draws to a close and the holiday season is upon us, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for making this such a wonderful year at Coral Ridge Yacht Club. Whether on the water, at events, or simply enjoying the camaraderie of fellow members, your participation and spirit have made our club a vibrant and welcoming place for all.

This year has been full of growth, celebration, and connection! Welcoming new members, having a new General Manager like Jay Butler, and the opening of The Pointe are all exciting milestones. The fact that the events have been well attended and have led to new friendships speaks to a vibrant and engaged community.

As we prepare for the Winterfest Boat Parade right in our front yard—truly the highlight of the season—there’s no shortage of festive events to enjoy this month!

From the Tree Lighting ceremony, Santa’s Brunch and holiday parties to our grand celebration on New Year’s Eve, there’s something for everyone to look forward to here at the club.

This December also marks the end of my term as your Commodore. It has been an incredible honor to serve this amazing community, and I’m deeply grateful for the support and friendship I’ve experienced over the past year. I’m proud of all that we’ve accomplished together and the connections we’ve strengthened.

I hope that this festive season brings you and your loved ones moments of peace, joy, and warmth. As we look ahead to another exciting year on the water, let’s continue to share our passion for boating, friendship, and community.

Wishing you all a very Happy Holiday season, and I look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

FOLLOW THE DRESS CODE

Please remember our dress code and hat policies as they pertain to the Clubhouse. Hats, caps, or visors are not allowed to be worn inside the Clubhouse (even if you are walking through to the patios or pool deck). However, you can wear hats on the Auxiliary and Burgee Patios. Appropriate bathing suits and cover-ups for ladies and similar for gentlemen and children are permitted on the Auxiliary Patio and, of course, the pool deck dining tables. (No cheeky bottoms or sheer/fishnet cover-ups are permitted.) Please make sure to share the dress code with your family and friends when bringing them to the Club to prevent any awkward situations.

CRYC Sailing & Water Sport s Foundation

As the season gets into full swing, so does the Foundation. After completing our most successful summer sailing camp we look forward to our upcoming events and programs. As I write this article, we are only 2 days away from the Epicurean Dinner. This is one of our most successful fund-raising events and in the past was limited to only 20 people. We announce the event at the Party with a Purpose and most guests sign up at that time. This year we had 24 people make reservations for the event and it was sold out at that point. It is truly an outstanding event and an opportunity for us to thank our very generous donors.

We hope to have events that appeal to all of our members during the year, and we have plans for the following at this point:

December 7, 2024 - We are planning to have a Regatta involving our Sunday Sailing Club and St Marks Sailing Club. All members are welcome to attend the event and watch the sailing race in the bay. We will have an awards ceremony and light snacks and drinks will be available.

February 1, 2025, Foundation Day. This will be our second annual Foundation Day which will start with our Discover Scuba Event In the morning and continues to lunch. It is a day of watersports and Foundation awareness. The event will revolve around the Sailing Center, the Pool and the Pointe. There will be a Buffet featuring hot dogs, hamburgers and salads. Of course, all the Foundation water toys will be available on a reservation basis at no cost.

March 29.2025 - The Party with a Purpose. This has been the Foundation’s major fund-raising event for many years. Our first Party with a Purpose was limited to 60 guests and sold out as all of them have since. Last year’s event hosted over 120 donors and was a huge success. The evening features a special cocktail hour with complimentary cocktails, hors d’ oeuvres or your choice of wine. A gourmet white glove dinner, again with complimentary wine. Music throughout the evening and a Special Silent Auction. It is truly a special evening for a special cause.

Every Sunday - The Sunday Sailing Club at the Sailing Center. Merideth and Alex Campbell head up the event with the help of the Foundation and Parents. It has been a huge success and a great amenity for our families with children interested in Sailing.

As we move forward and our activities expand, the Foundation has hired a Maintenance Director, David Smith, to make sure our assets are kept in tip-top shape for your enjoyment. Remember, there is no cost to you to use them.

How can you help us do our good work? Of course, donations are always welcome and fully tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Participate in our events. Make plans to attend the Party witha Purpose on March 29, 2025. Include your name or one of a loved one on the TEAM FOUNDATION DONOR PLAQUE at the entrance to the Clubhouse. All of your donations, including events count to the $1000.00 total to have your name displayed with our other donors.

We look forward to another great year in 2025 and another successful Summer Sailing Camp with our partners, the City of Ft. Lauderdale and LYC Sailing Foundation.

Auxiliary

We’re still feeling hung over from the phenomenal success of last month’s Fashion Show. How does Auxiliary manage to keep outdoing itself? As predicted, New York, NY was sold out days before the event.

There was so much to enjoy! The food, the fashions, the prizes, and, lest we forget, the Silent Auction. Fun hovered in the air, everywhere, inspiring everyone with good cheer. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to our success.

Congratulations to the many prizewinners: Barbara Kinnear, Judy Joseph, Ann Metz, Doris Smith, and Alan Hogan. Your winnings were like icing on a delicious cake. A big shout out to Paul Dumas, who won the 50/50 raffle, and so graciously donated his winnings to Wisely Vedrine, our Clubhouse Manager, to share with his team. What a guy!

Coming soon, on December 11th, is Auxiliary’s last luncheon of 2024. Please join us for camaraderie and cheerful holiday music. Those who wish will have the opportunity to make their own gingerbread house, be it for Christmas, Chanukah, or New Year’s. Your choice!

Please join me in extending a warm welcome to our newest member, Tika Van Den Hurk If you have still not joined Auxiliary, please contact Jodi Dumas at jodidumas@outlook.com or (610) 417- 3855.

Sincerely yours,

Fashion Show

Family Activities

Dear Members,

The holiday season is a time of wonder, joy, and cherished traditions. One such tradition that embodies the magic of Christmas is the annual Brunch with Santa at Coral Ridge Yacht Club. This delightful event, set against the picturesque backdrop of the intercostal views and the warm Florida weather, offers a truly unforgettable experience for the whole family.

Imagine the excitement as Santa Claus himself arrives at by boat, spreading cheer and delight to all the children and adults. This unique and whimsical entrance sets the tone for a magical day filled with festive fun.

Before Santa’s arrival, the buffet opens, offering a delectable spread of culinary delights. From mouthwatering breakfast favorites to savory lunch options, there is something to satisfy every palate. Indulge in a variety of delectable dishes while enjoying the company of loved ones and taking in the breathtaking intercostal views.

One of the highlights of Brunch with Santa is the opportunity to take family pictures with the jolly old man himself. As Santa mingles with the guests, make sure to have your camera ready to capture those precious moments. These photos will serve as cherished mementos that you and your family can look back on for years to come.

Don’t miss out on this delightful tradition on December 8th that brings together the joy of the holiday season and the beauty of the Coral Ridge Yacht Club.

Did You Know:

Over the years, Francis J. Schuster and his wife, Evangeline, traveled more than 10,000 miles on his boat, “Trade Winds,” with family and friends as willing crew.

One evening, Francis (father) and Diane (daughter) were in their vessel, “Trade Winds” going up the Intracoastal Waterway from Fort Lauderdale. They arrived at Lake Santa Barbara, in Pompano, and saw all these decorated boats coming from the lake. The police were present telling everyone to stop until the parade went through. Since “Trade Winds” was all decorated with lights, as it always was during the holidays, Fran, as he was called, suggested that they join the parade, and they did. Fran thought it was “neat,” and that there should e a Fort Lauderdale Boat Parade.

At the time, Fran was serving on the Marine Advisory Board of Fort Lauderdale, and suggested the adoption of the Fort Lauderdale Boat Parade and they went with the idea. He organized and led the first annual Christmas Boat Parade in 1970. For several years, “Trade Winds” was the lead boat in the Boat Parade which began from Port Everglades. Fran was even awarded a small plaque for initiating this beautiful tradition, which he proudly mounted on “Trade Winds,” where it remained even after the vessel was sold.

Francis Schuster and his wife, Evangeline, joined the Coral Ridge Yacht Club in 1966. Over his many years of membership, he served as a Governor to the Board during 1969 and 1970, and, again, during 1976 and 1977; served as Secretary to the Board during 1981 through 1985; served as Fleet Captain during 1970, 1987, 1988, and 1989; and served as Fleet Chaplain during 1978, 1991, and 1992. Daughter Diane continued her Legacy membership with the Club right up until her passing in October of 2015.

The Winterfest Board Parade is an annual tradition that has been held every December in Fort Lauderdale since 1970. The event has been judged as one of the top 10 parades in the world among 50,000 parades.

The Coral Ridge Yacht Club is proud and honored to have had the Schuster family as members who have not only given so much to their fine Club but have left the City of Fort Lauderdale with a wonderful legacy – the Winterfest Board Parade – which is enjoyed by all to this very day.

Thank You Fran!

Veterans Day

CRYC Cruisers

Kate Nelson Governor

Dear Cruisers,

This fall has included a wonderful trip to Naples Florida. After two hurricanes wreaked havoc across the west coast of Florida, flooding the area all the way to downtown and bringing down the electricity, we ventured in to find a much-recovered town. Although my hotel canceled my reservation, the Inn on 5th was spared and the delightful Naples community was abuzz with activity.

We started off at the Sailing and Yacht Club with a Jimmy Buffett singer/guitarist. The club is bright with huge windows and a high gloss plank floor that sparkles in the sunlight. The food was excellent and the servers were well prepared providing us with great meals.

After a day of shopping, we went to dinner at the Naples Yacht Club. The renovation of the club was the right move, and it was absolutely spectacular. Should any of you go to the club just be sure to dress appropriately. They are long on tradition and formality.

Coming back to Coral Ridge we enjoyed the Fashion Show, which was outstanding. To follow it up we, the Cruisers and the DayTrippers took part in the Dinghy Rally. Judy Lincoln out did herself once again with the monopoly themed program. Guiliana and Todd won the day! We all enjoyed a stellar day on the water with a pseudo purpose and a good amount of libation. All in all, the season has started off with a smash!

Next up is our Cruiser Holiday party on December 12th. Come one, come all as we kick up our heels with the tunes of Violet Jeffries who made it on the Voice. She’s very talented and will bring with her the spirit of the holidays. So much fun this year and it’s slowly winding up.

In the meantime….See you at the Club!

CLUBS WITHIN THE CLUB Book Club

The short story is the topic for this month’s meeting on Friday, December 13, 2024. Our facilitator, Barbara Kinnear, will be discussing Snowflakes and Starlight, written by authors Debbie Macomber, Joann Ross and Jennifer Snow.

This book involves three short stories about the holiday season. The first story sends us to Seattle and the publishing world.  The next story takes us to the Midwest and the cooking scene. Finally, we are transported to Alaska for a homecoming.

Please make reservations at the front desk and, at that time, make your lunch selection from the variety of sandwiches (egg salad, tuna salad, or chicken salad) on white, wheat or rye bread. A Cobb salad or other menu choices are also available. Lunch is promptly at 12 noon when the book discussion begins.

Friday Colors at CRYC

Observing Colors is a time-honored ceremony adopted by the US Navy in 1843. Service members and civilians take part in this long - standing tradition to reflect on the sacrifices of the women and men who devoted their lives to protect our nation’s shores from foes. To many, this custom is rooted in a sense of deep pride and is a symbol of admiration.

Friday Colors is observed on the First Friday of each Month.

1. Approximately ten minutes before sunset, as calculated by the Fleet Captain, the word is passed “First call, first call to color.” The honor guard of the day will form near the point of hoist of the ensign. At that time, there will be no services provided by the CRYC and its staff, including the bars, until after the conclusion of Colors and the ensign has been presented to the proper authority.

2. Immediately before sunset, “Attention” is sounded by one horn blast, blown on a whistle, or eight bells is sounded. ALL PERSONS, INCLUDING CHILDREN, within sight or hearing, face the ensign, remove their head gear, place their right hand over their heart and STAND AT ATTENTION and REMAIN SILENT unless singing the National Anthem. Boats in the vicinity lie to, or proceed at the slowest possible speed, and the boat officer or coxswain stands and salutes.

3. The order “Execute” is then given: the cannon will be fired, and the ensign is lowered slowly. The National Anthem or “To the Colors” (Retreat) will be played with the ensign starting down the staff.

4. When the ensign is completely lowered, folded, and presented to the proper authority, the word is passed “Carry on,” at which time, salutes are terminated, and the ceremony is over.

Congressional Defense Authorization Act of 2009, which President Bush signed on October 14, 2009, entitles retired or former military members in civilian to render the hand salute.

Let’s show our pride and respect at CRYC and abide by proper flag etiquette. Flag etiquette reminded: All yacht ensigns should also be struck (taken down and removed) at sunset until the following day.

RECIPROCITY RESPONSIBILITIES & PRIVILEGES OF FCYC CLUB MEMBERS

Your Responsibilities When Visiting Another FCYC Club:

• Reservations should be made with the hosting club. Even if the decision to visit another FCYC club is spur-ofthe-moment, a call to the hosting club is appropriate.

• Be prepared to show evidence of your membership in another Council member club. Carry your membership card; or, be prepared to show it on your mobile phone; or, have a letter of introduction from your club.

• Inquire about dress code when making a reservation.

• Inquire about any club events that may be going on at the time you want to visit.

• Clubs in close geographic proximity to other FCYC member clubs may impose special reciprocity restrictions on the members of those clubs within close proximity. Inquire of your club about any special reciprocity restrictions that may be in place by clubs in close proximity.

• Reciprocity privileges should not be abused, including the frequency with which any one host club is visited.

• A visiting member of another FCYC club is expected to comply with the host club’s governing documents, including house and marina rules.

• Some clubs require visiting boaters to provide proof of insurance and require minimum levels of coverage. Visiting boaters should inquire of such requirements when reserving a slip.

Your Expectations of Privileges When Visiting a Host Club:

• With a few exceptions, a visiting member of another Council club should be treated no differently than a member of the visited (host) club. Two acknowledged exceptions include:

• FCYC member clubs with golf courses are not required to offer golf as a reciprocity benefit.

• Clubs may, in some cases, have a charge for visitor parking.

• Charges of a visiting FCYC member are to be billed back to the visitor’s club. While a host club may offer to settle the charges via credit card, it is the choice of the visiting member whether to settle the charges via credit card or billing to his/her home club.

• With few exceptions, the prices paid for goods and services by a visiting member of another Council for the sale of fuel and for private events hosted for a visiting member.

• Reasonable effort should be made on the part of a host club to honor the reciprocity visit request of a member of another Council club. Seasonal restrictions on reciprocity are not appropriate.

• It is understood that certain special events held at a club may result in the club being unable to extend reciprocity for very short periods of time.

• Any Council member club may decline to extend reciprocity privileges or limit the extent of reciprocal privileges to any individual member of another Council member club.

A comprehensive guide on reciprocity entitled “Reciprocity Standards - Q&A” may be found in Section J of the Council’s Information Binder, copies of which are maintained by your club’s office and FCYC Director.
