CRV Difference2021

The benefits of CRV’s substantial investment in genomics in New Zealand will flow through better bulls both from New Zealand and Overseas especially in the increasingly important area’s of Health and Efficiency.

Genomic selection is a powerful technology that allows us to significantly increase the rate of genetic gain because of more accurate predictions for younger animals. This can drive increased productivity and overall profitability for NZ dairy farming operations.

CRV offers InSires (Genomically selected young sires) and Proven sires (daughter proven) with New Zealand breeding values. The continued growth in InSire sales is proof of the growing confidence farmers have in this exciting technology.

Genomics is enabling CRV to apply new technologies to our breeding programme to further speed up the rate of genetic gain like increased use of embryo transfer, embryo sexing and genotyping.

SEXED SEMEN sexed semen inseminations) also gives you the freedom to use dairy beef genetics on your lower genetic merit cows.

For herds with good fertility management, using sexed semen from the very best proven sires is the best way to get ahead.

This is a double win. You further your genetic gain and increase the value of your surplus calf sales.

With CRV sexed semen, you can increase the number of high genetic merit heifers generated through your yearly mating programme. By using sexed semen from CRV’s top sires over your best 25% of cows you will increase your genetic gain.

Conception rates with sexed semen are lower than nonsexed semen. Using the correct semen handling techniques and the right selection of animals on heat will help you get the best possible results using the CRV sexed semen product.

The additional heifer calves (expected 90% heifers from

FACIAL ECZEMA TOLERANCE

CRV

EXCLUSIVE

dairy farmers more than $100,000 a year in lost milk production. Not only is the disease costly in dollar terms, but it is also devastating for animal health.

We all want healthier cows, and improving the herd’s genetic tolerance offers the best protection against Facial Eczema (FE), as well as reducing the risk of poor production. The daughters of our FE-tolerant bulls are 25-30% less reactive to a facial eczema challenge than the average bull.

Exclusively from CRV, FE-tolerant sires used in your breeding programme are an environmentally-friendly and safe way to help increase your herd’s tolerance to FE challenges, resulting in healthier cows and improved production.

According to a recent study led by Veterinary Enterprises Group (VetEnt) Research, facial eczema could be costing

POLLED CALVES When a bull has two copies of the polled gene (i.e. homozygous), you are guaranteed the bull’s progeny will all be polled, as all will get one copy of the polled gene. Conversely, bulls with only one copy of the polled gene (i.e. heterozygous) do not guarantee polled progeny, but there is a 50% chance of progeny being polled.

CRV now offers a team of local and overseas homozygous polled bulls for both dairy and beef. Homozygous (PP) polled bulls guarantee the birth of polled calves, meaning the progeny of polled bulls will not need disbudding. This saves time and expense, and improves animal welfare with less stress on the calf.

LowN Sires®

Reduce your environmental impact in every generation Exclusively from CRV, using LowN Sires® in your breeding programme is an environmentally-friendly way to help decrease Milk Urea Nitrogen.

LowN Sires® strives to help farmers reduce their environmental impact. Our LowN Sires® team is predominantly selected for their low Milk Urea Nitrogen (MUN) breeding value, but also incorporates Live Weight, Milk Volume, Milk Fat, Protein Fertility and Longevity as key drivers for environmental efficiency, making them the ideal all-round team.

When operating a once-a-day milking system, the right genetics are key to success. It’s important to breed cows suitable for once-a-day (OAD) milking.

CRV OAD INDEX FOCUSES ON: ü Robustness ü Somatic cells ü Teat placement ü Milking speed

Our OAD selection index ranks sires on their suitability to milk OAD in order to increase production, feed efficiency and the cows’ ability to last in a OAD system.

ü Protein ü Udder support ü Body capacity ü Milking ability

SHORT GESTATION CRV offers short gestation (SG) dairy and beef to create greater value offspring and to give your cows more days in milk. That means more milk in the vat, more money in your pocket, AND a valuable AB calf too.

DAIRY

As with all traits, the mating will result in half of the sire’s BV being transferred, so when looking at a sire’s Gestation Length breeding value eg (-10) you will experience half (-5) for the number of days reduced for your mating.

BEEF

CRV Difference2021

Short Gestation Dairy is a good option to bring your calving dates forward. Short Gestation Dairy is available in all breeds with bulls as low as -11 days saving you up to 6 days.

Breed beef-cross calves that you can sell to the beef market. The gestation length of beef breeds are, on average, four to five days longer than dairy sires. However, Short Gestation Hereford, Angus and Belgian Blue brings the calving date in line with dairy sires.

CRV SERVICES

myHERD TESTING We offer a complete Herd Testing package including a herd test assistant, and provide a fast turnaround for results. Samples are electronically scanned for traceability from shed to lab. We provide actual milk volume which matches your tanker docket, giving you confidence in the accuracy of the reports. During the test we take 30ml samples, leaving you more milk in the vat plus it’s easier in the shed with less trays to work around. We do our best to offer flexibility when scheduling tests to suit our customers.

“CRV provide really good support and there are some great people that I have dealt with for a long time. Having trusted relationships is crucial. I’m always looking for better ways of doing things - for my cows and my farming operation. I have recently used the pregnancy test option. Herd Testing is a valuable way of identifying the high and low performers in the herd. It can also identify mastitis risk through somatic cell counts. CRV providing a Herd Test technician takes the pressure off me and my team.” Gavin, Ngatea
