TODAY's SPECIAL:

MASTER CHEF cru camp!

Gary Hill Executive Director

MASTER CHEF CRU CAMPERS We know kids are excited by the thrill of fresh experiences as they learn new skills and continually reshape what they know. Flashback to 1930, and you’ll see an early Crusader holiday camp of girls swimming in a river and cooking dinner over a campfire while they laugh and learn about God’s creation. Fast-forward to today and you’ll see teams of girls and boys gathered around mixing bowls and ovens, laughing over their cooking skills (or lack thereof!) as they bake friands in a master class. They too are on camp – the inaugural CRU Master Chef 2015!

Claremont Deputy Principal, Peter Scott (right): “It’s this combination of evangelism on Summit Camps followed by discipleship at school that makes our partnership with Crusaders so valuable.”

Dear Friend, It was just a speck. How could it have much impact? Yet God was at work through it to bring about His purposes and show His power.

delights, and they chat through the big questions of life while they cook! These two cooking scenes may seem poles apart, but the basic recipe is unchanged.

Elijah’s servant only saw a cloud “as small as a man’s hand” (1 Kings 18:44), but Elijah saw God about to answer his drought-breaking prayer with torrential rain. How could one prophet stand against 450 devotees of a false religion (1 Kings 18:20–40)?

CRU Camps keep up with what’s trending now to keep kids coming to camp, but we don’t ever change the fundamentals.

How could a baby be God’s answer to death through sin (Luke 2:25–32)?

How could a small band of Jesus’ followers grow into a movement spanning continents and time?

Today, as in 1930, our leaders still guide campers through fun, new experiences as they show and share the “old” news of new life in Christ.

It is because of God’s almighty power, which He uses to build His kingdom. He can grow a tiny mustard seed (Matthew 13:32) into something massive.

Kids at CRU’s new Master Chef camp:

MAKING FRIANDS AND A FRIEND IN JESUS

So how should we respond?

There’s no big mystery to making a Will. Crusaders can help you do yours for free!

Firstly, let’s humbly thank God that He chooses to use His power to give life to people like us, showing mercy instead of judgement. Let’s humbly thank Him for signs of growth. He has caused it! (I Corinthians 3:7)

The next CRU Wills Days will be in November 2015.

Secondly, because He is the one who provides growth, we should prioritise prayer as the foundation of all we do.

Email lindan@crusaders.edu.au for more information.

Finally, let’s not be discouraged or give up when progress seems slow. God has caused the things that seem to be small and insignificant to have a mighty impact. We need to faithfully persevere. Those who started Crusaders in 1930 in a handful of schools and with a couple of camps each year could not have glimpsed the impact it would have. When we began Summit in 1988, we didn’t conceive how many people would be blessed as a result. Even now, I believe we can barely contemplate the future opportunities for Crusaders’ ministry.

These kids had a blast cooking up a storm at our first-ever Master Chef camp in April! “CRU Master Chef” is our latest new camp – packed with Invention Tests, professional Master Classes on how to make delicious treats like friands, “cook for your family” contests, Bible talks, games, a movie night and more. Thanks to your prayers and support, more kids like these will be making friands – and a friend in Jesus – at our next CRU Master Chef camp in April 2016!

IT’S AMAZING WHAT GOD CAN DO with FAITH THE SIZE of A MUSTARD SEED! “For I assure you: If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’, and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” – Matthew 17:20. God is planting powerful, mountain-moving seeds of faith in thousands of young people each year through Summit Educational Camps. Christian educators share with us how Summit Camps are an extremely effective way to pass on the hope-filled message of Jesus to young people and build firm foundations for Christian growth.

Summit Camp last year was James, who shares, “On camp, I made my decision to follow Jesus. I remember during camp my leader encouraged me to learn more about Jesus and read the Bible. I said a prayer to God that said sorry, please and thank you… and I made the decision to follow Jesus.” “And James is just one of many,” says Alanna James, a teacher at Claremont College who attended that Summit Camp. She witnessed God working powerfully on the camps by building strong relationships between the students and Crusader leaders “whose Christian characters shone through in all that they did”…Cont. page 2
