KEEPIN IT RANDOM

A Favor from Cruisin’ Times

I’d like to ask a favor of all our readers.

Each month, we spend a significant amount of time gathering car show and event listings to include in Cruisin’ Times. In fact, searching the internet for shows takes up nearly a third of our total time putting the magazine together. We do this as a service to you—our readers—so you can easily find the events you want to attend. Some of our advertisers submit their events to us, but that only accounts for a small portion of what we list in the show calendar. As I travel and attend shows, I constantly run into events I didn’t even know were happening—right in our own backyard. That tells me we simply can’t find everything on our own.

So here’s where you come in.

If you don’t see a show listed in our magazine or on our website, please email us at CruisinTimesEvents@gmail.com with the show information. You’ll be helping fellow car enthusiasts find great events, and you’ll be helping those shows attract more participants and stay alive.

Also, while you’re out at events, let the organizers know you saw the ad in Cruisin’ Times. When promoters hear that, it shows them we’re worth advertising in—which helps us continue doing what we do.

Subscriptions also help us more than you might realize. If you’re reading this and haven’t renewed your subscription yet, or know someone who hasn’t, please consider doing so. Every new or returning subscriber helps us keep going—and when one person subscribes, they usually tell two friends. That kind of word-of-mouth support means everything.

We’ve been overwhelmed by the support from the community so far. Many of you have come up to me personally and said thank you for keeping the magazine going. That truly means a lot.

If you have questions or concerns, we’re always happy to talk—just reach out. You can email us at Cruisintimes@gmail.com or call 216-317-6617. Please understand this is a second job for both Magnus and me, so we do our best to respond as quickly as possible. If we miss a call, it doesn’t mean we’re out of business. Posting things like that on Facebook only causes confusion.

We love what we do, and we want to keep bringing this magazine to life each month—but we need your help to keep growing and improving. Thanks again for all your support.

See you at the shows.

PETE SR.’S AND JR.’S 1932 FORD

FATHER AND SON BLUES

Words And Photos by Vic Garlauskas

In March 2025, Pete Latessa and his son, Pete Latessa Jr., went to a car show you might have heard of—the I-X Piston Powered Auto-Rama in Cleveland. Just a father and son spending the day together, walking the show, getting some steps in, and checking out the rides. In the Cruisin’ Times John Shapiro Allstars feature area they passed a blue 1932 Ford that stopped them in their tracks.

Pete Sr. couldn’t get the color out of his head. As they made their way through the rest of the show, he kept thinking about that car. Before long, they circled back, tracked down the owner, and made a deal. By the end of the show, the car was theirs. The Latessa family had just added a hotrod that both father and son love. The two already share a ‘57 Chevy, so don’t be surprised if you see both cars parked side by side at shows in the area.

This particular ride is a 1932 Ford three window coupe built from a Kilbourne Fiberglass body with a three inch chop. The paint is PPG Custom Blue sprayed by Jerry’s House of Color, with pinstriping and interior woodgrain accents by Chris Macffan of Aerografix.

It sits on an American Classics chassis with a nine inch Ford rear end and is powered by a crate Chevy 350 paired with a TH350 transmission. Dual quad carburetors give it the muscle, and headers with Thrush mufflers give it the sound. The driveshaft was built by our friends at Henderson Driveline and Axle, and a mix of Rocket and American Racing wheels completes the drag race inspired look, with spindle mount style fronts and a Halibrand style rears.

It is not every day someone buys a hotrod at a car show, but Pete Sr. and Jr. lucked out at the I-X Piston Powered AutoRama. Maybe next time, you will too.

See you at the shows!

2025 SPRING PHLAT OUT ON THE FARM

The 2025 Spring Phlat Out on the Farm Car Show at Maize Valley Winery and Craft Brewery was not what I expected. And I mean that in the best possible way.

When we arrived, I was blown away by the size of the winery building and the space available for the show. It really is a working farm, and the winery, brewery, and restaurant are all inside a beautifully renovated old barn. The setup is stunning, and the people running the show were friendly, welcoming, and open to every type of vehicle. It was one of the most diverse shows I have ever been to.

There were restorations, perfect show cars, daily drivers, lowered trucks, street rods, gassers, lifted trucks, custom vans, and some rat rods. Everything was parked together with no strict rules, just good vibes. The show is hosted by the Dropt Out Car Club, which has been putting on this spring event for the last 12 years.

If you have been following any of my coverage this year, you already know that cold and wind have been the running theme for 2025. Sure enough, May 31st brought drizzle, forty degree temps, and steady winds over twenty five miles per hour. Still, about 200 cars and trucks showed up, and I have no doubt that number would have doubled or tripled with better weather.

Best of Show Car went to Tony Mazzonne and his 1939 Ford roadster custom.

Best of Show Truck went to Calvin Andrews and his 1970 C10. Look out for a full feature on Calvin’s truck later this year in Cruisin’ Times.

If you are in the area, Maize Valley Winery also hosts a weekly CruiseIn every Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m., and they average over 300 cars on a good night. Definitely worth the trip.

And mark your calendars—Dropt Out’s next big event is coming up September 27 and 28 at KimTam Park at Melanie Springs, located at 2881 Canton Road in Uniontown, Ohio. That show has been going strong for over 22 years and includes a swap meet, awards, and plenty of prizes. You do not want to miss it.

See you at the shows!

HAVE A PROJECT? We are currently scheduling projects for the winter. Next year has to be better than the last. People will want to be going out to many cruise in’s and shows with there cars.

WE WORK on customer cars, unlike others who take a large deposit and let your car sit. You’ve all heard the horror stories of guys cars taking years to get fairly simple jobs finished at these shops.

WANT YOUR ROD PAINTED? Again, the horror stories of shops taking a year or longer once they got your BIG deposit. We have you bring your rod to us when we’re ready to start on it, and give it our full attention!

THE ELYRIA VINTAGE CRUISE-IN

Last Friday, I attended The Elyria Vintage Cruise-In, located at 1020 West Broad Street in Elyria. This event has been running every Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., May through October, since 1971. That makes it the oldest weekly car cruise in the entire state of Ohio.

I actually took my kids there over ten years ago, and it is incredible to see how much it has grown since then. The parking lot where the event is held used to belong to a Big Lots store, but now it is a dedicated lot for the NAPA store. With no through traffic, it is easy to walk around, talk with fellow car lovers, and enjoy the music.

The music is provided by “It’s Showtime” DJ service, run by Dave Adams. Dave is also the President of the Northern Ohio Car Club Association (NOCCA), and he is the one who rescued this show 16 years ago. He has worked closely with the City of Elyria to turn it into one of the best free cruise-ins around.

What makes this cruise-in even more special is that Dave organizes it to give back. The money raised goes to local organizations in Lorain County, including FOP Lodge 30, area food banks, Flying Horse Farms, burn units for children, battered women’s shelters, and many others. He plays a great mix of music from the 1950s and 60s, plus rockabilly and surf tunes that really set the vibe.

If you are looking for something to do on a Friday night, come out to Elyria. Check out some cool cars, grab a burger or hotdog from Dave, enjoy the music, and spend time talking cars with folks who get it. And while you are there, consider donating to the organization of the week—it is all for a good cause.

Mark your calendars for the NOCCA Car Show on Sunday, July 20, 2025, from Noon to 3 p.m. at 2929 West River Road in Elyria. Proceeds benefit the Lorain County Safe Harbor Genesis House.

For more info, email Dave at hdmorebeers@gmail.com or visit the NOCCA events page: https://nocca.homesteadcloud.com/events

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY

We would also like to recognize the everyday heroes here at home. Thank you to our police officers, firefighters, EMTs, healthcare workers, and all local service providers who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe, healthy, and functioning. You put others before yourselves every single day, and that deserves our respect and gratitude.

On this Independence Day, and throughout the entire month as we honor the founding of our great republic, please take a moment to thank anyone who serves or volunteers to help others.
