Randomly Speaking Looks Easy...
T
here are lots of things that look simple to do, but wind up being massively difficult - not brain surgery, but difficult.
The following are some things that look easy but wind up being hard to do. For example get in your car when someone has parked too close to you on the driver’s side. No matter how many collector cars you’ve owned and how much you’ve “babied” them, invariably you or someone else bangs your door into the one next to it - guaranteed. Try carrying a couch upstairs. If you’re the one walking backward - it ain’t easy. Ever tried pin-striping a car? Drawing a circle freehand? Right! I know plenty of artists who can’t either. I am unable to let down a Venetian blind the first time without pulling the cord the wrong way and having the whole assembly dump sideways. Oh, you too!? Can you tie a necktie so it comes out even at the ends on the first try? No I didn’t think so!
Here’s one, see if you can keep from getting distracted by another newspaper story when you’re looking for the continuation on page 9 of a story you started on page 3. Open the back door when you’re carrying two bags of groceries. Get up and go to bed if you fall asleep on the couch watching television. Swallow a pill by taking a drink from a fountain you have to bend over to get at. Get anything out of your pants pocket when you have your seat belt fastened, including your wallet, when the police pull you over for speeding. Find the light switch in a dark room. Keep your hands from smelling like gas when you pump gas when your all dressed up and ready to go out. Take all the pins out of a new shirt. Pack a suitcase for warm weather when you’re starting out in a cold weather climate. Get all the peanut butter out of the jar. Quit a job you hate after the boss has finally come in and said “Hey, I just thought I’d stop by and tell you, you’re doing a great job.” Clean a paintbrush so you can use it again. End a conversation politely with someone you don’t want to talk to any longer.
How ‘bout putting the ice cube tray back in the freezer without spilling water all over the place. Same goes for trying to reach for a towel when you get out of the shower without getting water all over the floor. How many of you have tried replacing the screens with the storm windows. It ain’t easy. Cut the fingernails of your right hand with your left hand (the opposite applies if your left handed). Forget it! Take something out of your eye with your glasses on (while driving), if you take them off you can’t see and if you leave them on, you have to wedge your finger around your glasses at the exact time another motorist passes by. Basically it looks like your picking your nose but you’re not. Get off a crowded elevator at the second floor of an eight floor store, when you were the first one on. I’m always getting off wherever the elevator stops. 6 Cruisin’ Times ~ July 2018
Get the car in the garage without hitting some of the junk you’ve got stored along the side. As you know that’s one of my biggest problems. I think the next time I attempt to do anything, I’ll remember those immortal words of Clint Eastwood in the movie Dirty Harry, who said, “A man’s gotta know his limitations”. ...course that’s just me randomly speaking.

BONNELL’S ROD SHOP CRUISE
Words & Photos by Joe Secka
Bob and Jan Anderson’s ‘32 Ford Coupe
Last year Bonnell’s Rod Shop hosted their Annual Cruise-In and Open House in Fairview, PA on August 19th. You might initially think a hot rod shop would not be a great location for a cruise but, in this case, nothing could be further from the truth. Huge grassy areas with trees providing shade on a sunny afternoon all are all set around a large pond. The Bonnell crew is building state of the art rods and customs and it is reflected throughout the facility for sure. Several of the shop’s builds were on display.

10 Cruisin’ Times ~ July 2018
There were four different demonstrations in the shop; a Chinese Auction to benefit the Auto Racers for Kids Charity, the PPG tent held a kid’s coloring contest and music filled the air while Dickey’s Barbecue Pit provided great food for when you got hungry. Pace Performance and Off Road Express were on hand with their displays. Updated daily on www.cruisintimesmagazine.com
“Impulse” 1968 Chevy Camaro
Hot rods, customs, trucks and classics pulled into the facility. The car count was approaching 550 the last time I checked. Not very far off of I-90 and just West of Erie, PA, this is a show to put on your list for 2018! The unveiling of Jack Briggs’ 1941 Willys was a highlight. Actually, the car will be going to his grandson, Devin Thieman. BTW: I believe Devin is twelve years old! Scott Bonnell said to extend a huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers, employees & sponsors for this year’s Cruise-In. All of their help really made this year a success and the best year yet!! They were able to raise over $9,000 this year!! All proceeds were donated to Auto Racers For Kids. Next years event is Aug 18th from 11am to 3pm. more info on www.bonnellsrodshop.com That’s all I have - Joe Joe Secka is a 30 year veteran of the professional Photography and Motorsports Industries. HU RS T NAT IONALS CARLISLE PA. JULY 13-14, 2018.
HURST NATIONALS, CARLISLE PA As the Hurst Nationals, Powered by Carlisle Events enters its second year, it promises to be bigger and better than the first! The event is located at the Carlisle Expo Center which is just a block away from the fairgrounds. While the Hurst/Olds may be the first vehicle that comes to mind, Hurst has been involved with AMC, Chrysler, Ford and GM. Hurst continues to build vehicles for the remaining Big Three to this day.
16 Cruisin’ Times ~ July 2018
Vehicles such as the SC/Rambler, GSS Dart, SSJ Grand Prix, Rebel Machine, modern muscle and more make up this event. This year marks 50 years of the legendary Hurst/ Olds and we’re putting together a display of every year of H/O production as well as the proposal cars that Hurst built but never made it to regular production. 2018 is also the 50th anniversary of the ‘68 Hemi Darts and Barracudas that were so successful, they continue to race today in their own class. To celebrate they are assembling one of the largest gatherings ever of these rare A-Bodies.
Bill Campbell, George’s partner and original founding father of the Hurst brand, could be found milling around the exhibition area all weekend.
The 2018 Hurst Nationals is welcoming all vehicles equipped with Hurst products. Whether it be original factory equipment, dealer-installed or added by the owner at some point, that vehicle is eligible to participate in the show. If you and your vehicle have a passion for the Hurst brand, this is the show for you! In addition to the cars above, it was 60 years ago that Hurst-Campbell was founded, so they will be honoring that milestone too! The show will be rounded out with the newest models from Hurst, former Hurst employees and engineers who designed and built these beasts and other featured guests listed below. There will be book signings, autograph sessions, seminars and so much more. All show car owners and walk-in customers will again have FREE access to the Chrysler Nationals event which is held across the street at the Carlisle Fairgrounds. For one low price, you get access to the only all Hurst event and the world’s largest Chrysler show! This Years event is July 13-14, 2018. More info at www.carlisleevents.com or 717-243-7855
