KEEPIN IT RANDOM
by: Vic
My family and I had the privilege and pleasure of attending and working at the 60th IX Center Piston Power Auto-Rama this past weekend. We had so much fun at this show! Last year we were very green and knew little about what this magazine is and what it means to many people. The 2025 show was our first public appearance less than 60 days after acquiring the magazine. This year we connected with friends we made last year and new friends we encountered along the way. So many people stopped to tell us how much the magazine means to them and some even said we are doing a great job. We are definitely trying to do our best and keep this resource alive and well. The show is not just about looking at cool cars, the entire building had people reconnecting with old friends, making new friends and most of all feeling a sense of community. My wife commented that we were around other people like us, not by color or creed but by the love of all things cars; people that get “it”. We have our own language, a way of dressing, code of conduct and comradery. Whether you are a Lone Wolf, part of a club or just a spectator, anyone could tell the vibe was very positive and friendly throughout the entire show. I also realized car people are artists and we like sharing with others what we have or what we have done. Cars convey stories, history, nostalgia, innovation, creativity, and a host of other things that draw people in. If you have a cool car, you cannot be a hermit because everyone wants to share the experience and curiosity of cars whether you own one or not. If you don’t want to talk about cars, you cannot go to a car show. It is just impossible not to admire and talk about the cars, the era of the car, your memories, etc.. This is not uniquely an American culture but it was created and thrives here in our great land. It was unfortunate that the April 2026 cover car owner, Skip Smith, couldn’t make the show. I wanted him and his car to be there, but he was in the hospital. Many of his friends came by to talk about him and make sure they had a copy of the magazine. He fought hard, but lost his battle to cancer. I know he was happy to see his car on the cover, and he was deserving of the recognition. The car is beautiful and I could see that it was a cover car the moment I spotted it. Skip was a very talented builder and he will be missed by many, many friends.

The potential closing of the IX Center and therefore the Piston Power Show is a very sad prospect, this show means so much to so many. It is a foundational block for the car community in the Cleveland area for all types of “Piston Powered” vehicles and its loss will be that of an old friend.

SCRAPES - Cindy and Al Stacko’s 1966 C10 Short Bed I first saw “Scrapes” at Octane Nights in Ravenna, Ohio this last August 2025. I kept coming back to the truck but no one was there but finally near the end of the night I briefly talked to Al Stacko, the owner of the rig and gave him my number to do a photo shoot with the truck. I knew it was a cover truck because of the incredible workmanship and detail but I am not sure what the reaction will be to the patina paint being on the cover. In person this is a top level build but patina is not at the top of everyone’s list for paint choice. To me patina, real or imitated, is a movement towards accessibility and drivability. Not everyone can afford a shiny new paint job or even want one. I have a nice paint car and I am worried about it, if it was new paint that I just paid what my parents paid for their first house, I would rarely drive it. That is not the case here, Al’s wife Cindy regularly burns the hides off every time she drives it which is a lot. “Scrapes” is a 1966 C10 shortbed with a Chevy LS engine and 4L60E transmission sitting in a Roadster Shop chassis with a 9” Ford rear, Wilwood brakes and 4 corner air ride on 22” Billet Specialty rims. A Tanks, Inc. fuel system feeds it and a Dynomax Race Bullet exhaust lets it breathe. The interior was done by Portage Trim in Ravenna, right where I found the truck at Octane nights, and it has Vintage Air and Classic Instruments gauges. The patina is accented by new chrome which creates great contrast of old and new. Al says his inspiration for the build was fully from Boris Maryanovsky at Street Machinery in Euclid, Ohio. The motto there is “SDR”, Stop, Drop and Roll and that is what “Scrapes” does best. See classifieds online at www.cruisintimesmagazine.com

PISTON POWER SHOW 2026 Photos & Words by Vic Garlauskas
2026 IX Center Piston Powered Autorama - Recap I would like to start off by thanking Steve Legerski, Rocco Bevilaqua and the entire staff for making the 2026 IX Center Piston powered Autorama the best one ever and Steve for being a tremendous supporter of Cruisin’ Times Magazine for most of the years it has been in business. I would also like to thank Craig Harrison for all his wisdom, experience and sense of humor that made the Cruisin’ Times All Stars a huge success this year. I also have my family to thank especially my wife Tina for all the enthusiastic support she gives to all my endeavors including this magazine. Magnus and I had a great time at this event and I really, really do not want it to end. The 2026 Car Parts Warehouse IX Center Piston Powered Autorama was the “Diamond Anniversary“ 60th annual show and it was the most attended car show Cleveland has ever seen with 60,500 attendees. The Northern Ohio Car Club Association NOCCA led by Dave Adams held in the concourse downstairs featured an amazing 106 cars with the theme being “Super” Fords and man there were a lot of cool Fords. Don Moyer and the Slick Devils Hotrod Asylum featured Willys hotrods and gassers in the Ballroom Blitz off the South hall and I took a bunch of pictures of those cool race cars. The Cruisin’ Times All Stars Showcase had 25 cars and took 17 awards. Honestly there should have been more but there were a few paperwork mistakes that caused some errors on what should have been judged and classes which would have led to at least 3 more. I entered my car in a car show for the first time and it got way more attention than I ever thought it would, I see now why people put so much effort into it. I still don’t like to shine the car so if you see me at a show, my car will probably be a little dirty and I am ok with that. 14 Cruisin’ Times ~ May 2026

PISTON POWER SHOW 2026 Photos & Words by Vic Garlauskas
The Car Parts Warehouse Gold Cup went to 1960 Ford Sunliner Convertible (Owner George Conrad II) The full list of winners is on the website www.pistonpowershow.com under the “Results” link halfway down the main page. The Krazy Paint Charity Panel Jam raised $51,377 for the Career and Technical School Foundation. 60 artists, Krewmembers and some very generous Hot Rod Art buyers all contributed to a very large donation, thank you all! The military and first responders were represented and honored in the “DMZ” Designated Military Zone. Rolling Thunder, The Ohio Motorpool and Military Vehicle Preservation Association and the Medina Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5137 combine forces to make a great military display and raffle to benefit veterans. There were a lot of military vehicles and heavy equipment, just astonishing how many vehicles they bring in and the weight of some of these trucks and equipment has to be enormous. There were over 30 car clubs represented and some really great displays. In all there were 800 total vehicles including all the feature vehicles, the American Historical Truck Society, military vehicles, motorcycles, boats, pedal cars and other piston powered (or not) cool things. Over 600 of these were in competition for over $20,000 in prize money. Many more people to mention but I would rather have more pictures for you to see, maybe I will continue this story in next month’s issue. If the IX Center is not available for next year’s event, Cruisin’ Times Magazine is willing to give it a try. What can we do? A smaller show at a different indoor venue? Change the date to later in spring and have an outside/inside show? Please let us know your thoughts and ideas.
