The history of a specific hot rod often does not exist other than the most recent years before new construction begins. This one is a bit different, and I wanted to share the information I have. The original owner was a Minneapolis school teacher. During the winter months, she would keep it up on blocks in the 8 Cruisin’ Times ~ January 2024
garage/barn. I have no idea how she got to school during those months, but that is another story. Anyway, it made for a pristine starting point for this hot rod. This was exactly what Paul Turowski, a retired physician, was looking for. Arvin Sims, a friend of Paul’s, saw this Plymouth being trailered into an Akron, Ohio show. Arvin to let him know if it was ever for sale. The Plymouth eventually made it to Paul’s garage after many years. The original drivetrain, six-volt system, and a primered but mint body and frame were coming home! Usually, a bucket or two of nuts and bolts along with a pickup bed loaded with sheet metal is how a new hot rod project travels. This one was different! It sat in Paul’s barn for two years while he and his wife Pat made plans for its future. in Covington, LA. It was time for something different! Paul and Pat decided they wanted a classy-looking car with “sleeper” elements under the hood. They decided Tony Lanesky at Anton’s Hot Rod Shop in Hiram, OH, was to be the builder. Waiting for an opening to get their car on the shop’s schedule was one of the toughest parts of the build. Paul also mentioned picking out the colors was right up there near the top of the difficult list.

Anton’s Hot Rod Shop constructed this hot rod with both comfort and safety in mind. This Plymouth rides on a custom fabricated chassis that includes an integrated roll cage, and it is underpinned with Art Morrison suspension components front and rear. Wilwood brakes are stationed on the corners behind custom, one-off eighteen-inch wheels fitted with 3-D printed dog dish hubcaps finished by Paul’s Custom Plating. The Flaming River steering connects the driver to this advanced package of ride, handling, stopping, and steering geometry components. Both style and functionality are the key facets of this build. A Chrysler 5.7 Hemi delivers 430 HP with induction coming through a MOPAR-EFI and manifold. A custom fabricated fresh-air intake system displays an efficient appearance when the hood sides are open. The hood side panels were slightly changed to accommodate the Hemi engine. Anton’s also fabricated SS headers, merge collectors, and a full SS exhaust system using MagnaFlow mufflers. Power drives through a Gearstar 4L90 four-speed automatic and a custom driveshaft by Henderson DriveLine. This, in turn, feeds a Ford 9-inch rear axle, which is pinned to a triangulated four-link Art Morrison setup. PPG Edible Berries and Champagne paint colors adorn the all-metal body and create a stylish two-tone exterior. Anton’s re-created a new, original-appearing hood ornament in keeping with the “sleeper” theme the owners wanted. Sewn Tight of Taylorsville, KY stitched up the full custom interior and trunk using Apex Leather. Perfectly designed panels hide wiring and support pieces from view. Anton’s made the original gauge cluster operational once again by incorporating Classic Instruments’ handiwork. Vintage Air AC controls sit in the center of the dash just above a forward-looking GPS-style information screen. The Turowski’s split their time between Wisconsin and Florida and plan to travel to cruises in both of those locations. The recently finished Plymouth has already garnered First Place awards for the interior and Street Coupe Pre-1935 at the Pittsburgh World of Wheels and the Piston Power Show in Cleveland. The Solon (OH) Tuesday Car Cruise was one of the first cruise visits for this hot rod. They have been invited to the Louisville Hot Rod Association Show and are making plans to attend.

STREET SCENE AT AUSTINTOWN PARK July 23, 2023
Armstrong Cable Company is a regional cable TV and internet provider serving a large portion of Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. “Street Scene” is one of their local programming features that explores car shows and cruises during the summer months. TV host Rick Gurrera and Greg Rhoton travel the grounds, inspect the vehicles, and interview some of the owners. These recordings are subsequently broadcast throughout the year on their network. Rick and co-host Krysta Sylvester recorded a special episode of the popular Armstrong Neighborhood Channel “Street Scene” show, setting the Street Scene Car & Custom Bike Show apart from many others. The tapings can also be found on YouTube. This was their eleventh annual show and the third one taking place at the Austintown facility. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, and anything with wheels were welcome. A record turnout was reported and they ran out of registrations at 350 cars (at 11:45 am). The total number of cars and bikes was estimated at about 425. ALL proceeds raised from registrations to raffle items went to Veterans’ Outreach. Rick has already announced July 21, 2024, for the 12th annual “Street Scene Car & Custom Bike Show,” which will be in the same location and on the same channel. MORE FUN!

I was in Columbus attending a photography workshop for the weekend and had to call up reinforcements to capture event images. My grandson and photography intern, Andrew Sizer, agreed to take on the job. After reviewing the photos, I’d say he did a fine job. Thanks, Andrew! The “Street Scene Car & Custom Bike Show” continues to grow while taking pride in being one of the best and largest shows in the Mahoning Valley. Youngstown’s Vegas Band played live from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and DJ Thomas John spun the tunes while announcing door prize winners during the afternoon.

Hand-made trophies were provided by Youngstown Cycle & Speed. The show featured numerous door prizes and raffle items. Reader’s Rides Raymond’s 1969 Mercury Marquis I bought my 1969 Mercury Marquis in August of 2019 from a dealer in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I had it shipped up to Mentor Ohio, after an appraiser in Fl. looked at the car and found it to be everything it was represented to be. It was in excellent condition, but rather neglected. I have been fixing, repairing and improving its roadability, dependability and safety for the past 4 years. Right now I am upgrading all of the interior and exterior lights to LEDs.

It has a air-cooled 598cc engine and has a top speed of 77mph. The AN600 was the first model Honda imported into the US market.
