A FLEET FOR THE HIGHEST STANDARDS

The structurally identical expedition ships HANSEATIC nature, HANSEATIC inspiration and HANSEATIC spirit are designed for routes from the Arctic Ocean to the South Seas, for lock adventures and river cruises – driven by a profound respect for nature, guided by experienced captains and crews as well as safe navigation with the highest ice class for passenger ships (PC 6).

Discover how stylish and comfortable real adventure can be. Every expedition awakens your pioneering spirit, quenches a thirst for knowledge and is soothing balm to nurture body and soul. On board our ships, elegance and modernity go hand in hand – with plenty of space for a small number of guests. With no more than 230 fellow travellers and a crew-to-guest ratio of almost 1:1, the service experience sets new standards. The spacious spa and fitness area demonstrates that expedition and relaxation harmonise perfectly. Let your taste buds experience new culinary horizons and embark on a journey of discovery in an exclusive ambience. In three restaurants, including a speciality restaurant with its own unique style on each ship, our top chefs will delight you with gourmet classics, creative trend cuisine and regionally inspired delicacies. Every facet of our expedition fleet is carefully chosen and designed with great attention to detail.

The furnishings and fittings of our expedition ships are designed by probably the best interior designer: nature. Everywhere on board our ships, you will be pampered by a composition of colours, light, form and function. For more information, go to hl-cruises.com/fleet/expeditionships/on-board

TOWARDS THE UNFORGETTABLE ...

We take you to remote areas where other ships are forced to turn around. Your personal adventure will be enriched by an expedition team of up to 16 members, who will share their expertise and give presentations in the HanseAtrium. Biology, geology, history and more –true experts who have researched the topics, published about them and travelled extensively in the region. In the Ocean Academy, you can consolidate your own experiences with independent studies and digital content.

... ON ROUTES THAT MAKE HISTORY

The many open deck areas, with details such as the glass balconies and the deck tour at the bow, offer “front-row” experiences of the surrounding sights and nature. In places where there are no harbours in isolated regions, our Zodiacs will take you in small groups and without long waiting times right into the heart of nature: between icebergs, to secluded beaches in the South Seas or along narrow river branches.

Every cruise is an invitation to satisfy your own curiosity and discover the wonders of the world with an experienced expedition team.

SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN

ANTARCTIC CIRCLE

A CRUISE BEYOND THE CONCEIVABLE

Boundless, awe-inspiring and of a beauty that is reserved for only a few: that’s the Antarctic. Not a normal travel destination – but a world of emotions. Anyone who dares embark on an expedition here will immediately realise that this is not just about seeing, but feeling. The cracking of the ice beneath the bow, the silent passing of an iceberg, the sight of penguin colonies with thousands of animals – all of this touches the soul profoundly.

ANTARCTICA

Every one of our Antarctic cruises take place in the austral summer. Our captains and crews adapt the route to the weather and ice every day. This has little in common with cruising in the classic sense – but instead with intuition and experience. In close cooperation with the Federal Environment Agency, we offer the best possible experiences with the least possible impact on nature.

We at Hapag-Lloyd Cruises have been exploring the southern polar region for over 30 years. Some members of our teams have visited the area more than 100 times – and yet each time they speak of a new discovery. Let yourself be intoxicated by an almost unearthly landscape dominated by wildlife: countless penguins, mighty elephant seals and whales as well as many species of seabirds.

WHY EXPLORE THE ANTARCTIC WITH HAPAG-LLOYD CRUISES

• Small, highly modern ships with never more than 199 guests on board

• Safe, comfortable equipment and highest ice class for passenger ships (PC 6)

• Decades of expedition expertise with an award-winning route concept

• Captains and crews with experience in polar voyages and who have often travelled in the Antarctic

• An expedition team of up to 16 members provides thrilling background knowledge

• Membership in IAATO (International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators) for decades ensures promotion of a respectful attitude to the Antarctic environment

1

FALKLAND ISLANDS

Experience this incredible bird paradise, which is home to around 60 species, at close range during Zodiac landings. Observe rockhopper and Magellanic penguins, who share their habitat with kelp geese, striated caracaras, king cormorants as well as black-browed and wandering albatrosses.

WHERE REGIONS GIVE RISE TO STORIES

2

SOUTH GEORGIA

Hundreds of thousands of king penguins live side by side with elephant seals and fur seals on the coasts and cliffs – overwhelming natural spectacles that you can observe from a respectful distance after landing on one of the black shores. Trace the footsteps of the explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, who found his final resting place here in 1922.

3

SOUTH ORKNEY ISLANDS

The South Orkney Islands are a lonely world of icy wilderness in the Scotia Sea. They are home to chinstrap and Adelie penguins. With luck, you will also see icebergs drifting off the rugged coast. Find out how the polar explorers live at the Argentinian Orcadas Station (depending on weather and authorisation).

4

ANTARCTIC

SOUND AND WEDDELL SEA

Icebergs ahead: at the bow and on the open deck areas, you can enjoy the best views. You may even spot blue whales, sperm whales and humpback whales as well as orcas. The Weddell Sea features stunning ice formations – whether as sparkling blueand-white sculptures, gigantic tabular icebergs or creaking sheets of dense pack ice.

5

SOUTH SHETLAND ISLANDS AND ANTARCTIC PENINSULA

Experience a region between ice and awe intensively – on deck as well as by Zodiac. Off the Antarctic Peninsula, your expedition ship sails into the centre of the flooded caldera of Deception Island. Majestic glaciers and gigantic icebergs shimmer in Paradise Bay. The Lemaire Channel is also impressive, flanked by mighty mountains up to 1,000 m (3,281 ft) high.

6 ANTARCTIC CIRCLE

The further south your expedition goes, the harsher and icier the white appears. The excitement on board mounts as you approach the crossing of the Antarctic Circle. How far can the ship advance? Thick ice fields and high tabular icebergs are a common sight here. The glaciers seem even more dominant in this icy domain. A unique feeling of pioneering adventure.

THE ICE IS SILENT ...

PENGUINS

Curious, loud and lovable: penguins are the hidden stars of every Antarctic cruise. Whether clumsily waddling along their favourite path or jumping head first into the water – their closeness is touching. Hundreds of thousands of chattering king penguins await you on South Georgia, crowding together and breeding here. An unforgettable welcoming committee.

SEALS

You will often encounter pinnipeds on your expedition. Sometimes they glide curiously past the Zodiac, sometimes they rest on an ice floe. Particularly endearing: a Weddell seal relaxing in the sun – as if there were no yesterday and no tomorrow, only this very moment.

SEABIRDS

WHALES

A giant body glides gracefully through the water, a deep burst of breath breaking the silence. The fluke rises and falls as if in slow motion. This is an experience of nature you might witness on your expedition. When the marine mammals appear, the captain flexibly changes the course of the ship.

They hover above the ship, carried by the wind and seemingly weightless: albatrosses, petrels and skuas accompany you on your adventure – often for hours on end. There are around 275 species of seabirds living in the southern polar waters. At the time of your expedition, many come ashore to mate, build nests and breed. And they all make you sense that the magic of the Antarctic is in the air as well.

... AND LIFE IS PULSATING

KNOWLEDGE THAT MOVES – AND LINGERS

Experience, curiosity and true passion for this extraordinary continent. An expedition team of up to 16 members allows you to immerse yourself in the experience even more profoundly, be it when looking through binoculars, hiking or riding in a Zodiac. Whether on land or on board, such as in the Ocean Academy – the experts share their knowledge with great enthusiasm. They tell fascinating stories behind the glaciers and explain animal behaviour and details about the climate and geology with a passion that is palpable. Lively presentations and discussions create moments that not only inform, but also touch you – and often continue to have an effect on you long after the ice has disappeared from view.

Ever since her studies in geography, focusing on climatology, geomorphology as well as geology, Heike Fries has been drawn to the South Pole. Her presentations on board provide insight into glacial periods and climate change. On land, she transforms your hikes into fascinating geological journeys through time.

Your experiences are enhanced with scientific content on board, including binoculars for captivating details.

KERSTIN SCHLEY HISTORIAN

The professional pilot has been travelling to the polar regions for years, places that few people ever reach. Kerstin Schley will cast light on the expeditions of Nansen, Shackleton and Amundsen. She also draws on her own experiences: in 2022, she skied the last degree of latitude to the South Pole.

Following her passion for nature and whales, the Leipzig native studied marine biology in Galway. After working as a whale-watching tour guide in Iceland, Christina Winkler now lives in South Kerry, Ireland, and shares her expertise on lively nature tours during expeditions.

EXPLORE. EXPERIENCE. EVOKE.

Your polar day begins in the morning as you head out with the Zodiacs – the crystal-clear air, sense of adventure and majestic atmosphere of the Antarctic welcome you with all your senses. As you zip through the water heading to the coast, the back of a whale is suddenly spotted. Your Zodiac stops. With its burst of breath clearly audible, the ocean giant glides past. As if in slow motion, it lifts its fluke and dives back down again.

MORE THAN ICE

In addition to the sea and inland ice, the Antarctic region also has tundra, dry valleys, glaciers, mountains and active volcanoes to offer. To protect the sensitive ecosystem, your explorations along the coast and on land only take place in small groups.

The excitement in your small group continues after the Zodiac lands ashore. On a snowshoe hike with your experts, you will experience the challenges historical explorers once had to face. The hike rewards you with stunning vantage points and fascinating wildlife observations. Your onward journey takes you past an iceberg from which Adelie penguins jump head first into the water.

As the ship pushes huge floes of ice aside, the thrilling sound of crunching and cracking accompanies you towards more upcoming adventures.

Back on board, your sense of discovery continues in comfort. A sparkling blue-and-white world stretches out before you, which you can enjoy on the many open deck areas. In the afternoon, you will again take to the Zodiacs and head right back into the spectacular icy landscape. A seal basks in the sun on an ice floe. The coloured nuances of the ice differ from any familiar scale, and you will be amazed at the frozen works of natural art. You can then consolidate your many experiences in the ship’s Ocean Academy and at presentations given in the evenings by your experts with a view of the next expedition day.

Can the HANSEATIC spirit make its way through the pack ice and drifting ice to get to Ross Island? The spot where Sir Ernest Shackleton built his base camp in 1908 is now home to penguins. Victoria Land welcomes you with an endless expanse in Terra Nova Bay, named after the ship that Scott was sailing when he discovered the bay in 1901. The spectacular nature here is just as moving as the region’s past –for example, the colonies of Adelie penguins with over 250,000 breeding pairs. On board, expert presentations will enrich your knowledge of this continent. If the authorities give the green light, with a bit of luck you will get to experience New Zealand’s subantarctic islands. The semi-circumnavigation of the Antarctic is a tribute to your spirit of discovery – and an extraordinary adventure on top.

EXPEDITION SVALBARD CIRCUMNAVIGATION

POLAR LEGEND –SPECTACULAR ALL ROUND

They still exist, those pioneering landscapes in which humans play only a minor role. Shaped by powerful glaciers, deep fjords and unspoilt wilderness, Svalbard is all about the thrill of adventure and expeditions. Three cruises to a world of wonders for which there is only one word: legendary.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Experience Svalbard’s wilderness on a flexible route and, with luck, complete a circumnavigation

• Intensive Arctic experiences – with striking mountains, majestic glaciers and bizarre ice sculptures

• The Zodiacs take you into the kingdom of walruses, seals and polar bears

• Discover the archipelago with the spotlight on geopolitics and climate policy

Mythical Svalbard fulfils your wildest expectations. To this day, circumnavigating the archipelago remains both a pioneering feat and a daring venture. A destination that the HANSEATIC nature, with its highest ice class, transforms into great adventures –guided by decades of expedition experience. The route is redetermined daily by the captain and crew, as the weather and ice conditions determine the flexibility of the itinerary. If the conditions allow it, you will venture forth into the waters of north-east Svalbard, where a sense of pure expedition prevails. At only around 1,000 km (621 mi.) from the North Pole, every extra kilometre may be increasingly difficult to negotiate.

Will the ice grant a passage through the eye of the needle in the Hinlopen Strait? If the conditions allow, your ship will forge a path through the fields of drifting ice and attempt the circumnavigation. Amidst dramatic scenery, no two days are the same. There is a good chance of spotting whales and, with a bit of luck, polar bears. Time and again, the Zodiacs bring you ashore, where you will follow in the footsteps of Roald Amundsen and set foot on historic ground and the terrain of today’s researchers. Keep your eyes peeled during walks with your experts, since geology will be just as much a topic for discussion as fauna. Every expedition to Svalbard is packed with experiences, and all of them are unforgettable.

Arctic giants: walruses can weigh up to 1.5 t (3,300 lb).

There will be plenty of chances to observe seals, whales, reindeer, walruses or maybe even polar bears from a respectful distance. With no more than 199 fellow travellers, you will develop a deep awareness of this sensitive ecosystem. Like the legendary Arctic pioneers, you are paving the way for the next chapter of your expedition. Thanks to the highest polar ice class for passenger ships, you will safely reach the Northeast Greenland National Park – the largest of its kind. Steep rock faces alternate with glacier snouts, from which icebergs drift off into the sea. You will encounter very few humans. Here, the concept of isolation is given a new dimension. Magnificent scenery also reigns supreme in Scoresbysund, the longest fjord system in the world – a triumphant finale to this extraordinary route combination.

The wonders of the Arctic don’t just come to you – you have to seek them out. The same goes for Svalbard and north-east Greenland. On a flexible course, you will experience unspoilt landscape and unique adventures. The primary aim of the HANSEATIC nature is clear: to circumnavigate Svalbard. Curiosity and a pioneering spirit are your constant companions when you set out on great adventures. While the west coast of Greenland features majestic ice formations, glaciers and lively Inuit culture, the Canadian Arctic reveals an even wilder side. Steep fjords and mighty mountains tower over Baffin Island – home to polar bears and musk oxen. How far can the small HANSEATIC inspiration make it? The passage through the Nares Strait is absolutely dependent on the ice. A privilege for you: barely any other ships sail the waters of northwest Greenland. Discover places like Etah that remain hidden to most.

Hardly more than 100 ships have travelled the Northwest Passage since Roald Amundsen completed the first passage in 1906. Now you, too, can tackle this pioneering feat on board the HANSEATIC spirit. Around 5,800 km (3,604 mi.) long, with places that have often never been captured on film and remain shrouded in myths and vagueness. Today, countries around the world are eyeing the gas and oil reserves or elements such as lithium there. The past, present and future of exploration lie nowhere closer together than in these realms. See the unique environment for yourself. Your first chapters take you to the coast of the Alaska Peninsula along the volcanic island chain of the Aleutian Islands.

In complete isolation: far away, but completely in tune with yourself.

The excitement builds as you continue to write the story of the legendary sea route. The captain and crew navigate you safely through the extremely challenging Northwest Passage. Every day, the names of the islands remind you of their former explorers – whose exciting stories are retold by your experts. The weather and ice determine where the next adventures await and where polar bears and whales can possibly be observed. Multiple Zodiac rides, landings and hikes are planned for your active explorations. When you reach the west coast of Greenland after intensive expedition weeks, your epic will be complete. You will be among the few people who have mastered the Northwest Passage.

--- The ice conditions determine the course here (see map).

Important note on this expedition: This expedition is a very demanding cruise to organise and sail. All of our experience and careful preparation notwithstanding, the actual itinerary heavily depends on the local conditions or rules as well as weather and ice conditions, which may make it necessary to change the itinerary. The natural experiences and wildlife sightings described are possibilities and are not guaranteed. We will do everything in our power to ensure that this cruise takes place as advertised, but wish to inform you of the flexibility this requires. The captain will decide on the best possible alternative depending on local conditions.

The curtain rises on Greenland’s natural spectacles for you on the west coast. Here, the glaciers produce millions of tonnes of ice every day. It breaks off and drifts along the Ilulissat Icefjord –and into Disko Bay, where you can discover it up close while cruising and riding in the Zodiac. Feel the elemental power of the universe, often only experienced in the sound of the wind and the cracking of the ice. You can recognise the rhythm of this world in the drum dance of the Inuit when you visit their settlements. Or while hiking with your experts in the tundra, where musk oxen may make an appearance. The east coast of Greenland is untouched and unspoilt. Only the ice fields that break up in early autumn enable travel through the region. Everything here is higher, wider and mightier –the remote Northeast Greenland National Park is the largest of its kind in the world. Alpine landscapes, granite cliffs and glaciers redefine the very definition of solitude. You might see polar bears and Arctic foxes. When your adventures in Iceland come to an end, you will be left with more than just memories: you will be filled with a deep sense of wonder at the diversity of the spectacular north.

With its fjords and lakes, Newfoundland offers fantastic scenery for hikers – and is a real insider tip. Labrador seems to have been forgotten by the rest of the world, although seafarers around 1,000 years ago called its coastlines the “Wonderstrands”. Heading for Greenland, the expedition feeling grows: in an elemental landscape of narrow fjords, majestic glaciers and imposing icebergs, Zodiac landings will take you to Inuit settlements with their rich culture and traditions. By contrast, hikes allow you to immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the Arctic tundra and polar desert. The Great Lakes and the Arctic merge into one mighty adventure on this expedition.

EXPEDITION KIMBERLEY

A REGION OF SUPERLATIVES IN DOWN UNDER

Australia’s Kimberley region is difficult to access – and that’s precisely what makes it so fascinating. On this premiere cruise with the HANSEATIC spirit, you will discover ancient landscapes, unique wildlife and the vibrant culture of the Aborigines.

HIGHLIGHTS

• A tidal wonder: Montgomery Reef with waterfalls and abundant fish

• Adventures in the Zodiacs: King George Falls up close, through gorges and to beaches

• Dramatic coastlines with red sandstone, cliffs, waterfalls and rock paintings

• Insights into the spiritual and cultural treasure trove of Australia’s Indigenous peoples

• Snorkelling and wildlife watching: dolphins, sharks and crocodiles in pristine waters

For details and prices, scan the QR code or go to hl-cruises.com/SPI2807

Australia is a country of superlatives – characterised by nature that is unique in its unspoilt state. On its premiere route, the HANSEATIC spirit will showcase this diversity in impressive fashion along the Kimberley region, one of the largest untouched coastal landscapes on earth. The red sandstone cliffs are over 1.8 billion years old – some of the oldest rocks on our planet. At the same time, the area is home to one of the longest continuously inhabited cultures on earth, with rock paintings going back up to 50,000 years. Another phenomenon is the tides, which are among the strongest in the world – such as at Montgomery Reef, where countless waterfalls cascade over the edges of the coral platforms at low tide. You will marvel at natural spectacles like these time and again in the Zodiac.

Your expedition takes you from the white beaches of Broome to the turquoise expanse of Shark Bay and on to the mighty King George Falls – Western Australia’s highest twin waterfalls. Some of the most beautiful spots for snorkelling also await along your route. You may spot wild dolphins, sea turtles, rays and sharks. Your insights into the lives of the Aussies Down Under are rich in contrast – whether it’s the outback atmosphere in Exmouth or the waterfront flair in Darwin. The Kimberley region uniquely blends wilderness, beauty and history.
