Maximize your cruise experience with life-enriching excursions

Inspiring… The world accredited Greek poet Constantine Cavafy writes in “Ithaca”, one of his most famous and vastly translated poems: “…when, with what pleasure, what joy, you come into harbours seen for the first time”. This is what sets a cruise apart from other forms of travel: The opportunity to discover multiple destinations in a single voyage and as the poet says to live “wealthy with all you have gained on the way”. Whether it is exploring the breathtaking Parthenon, the multi-cultural magic of Istanbul, the grandness of the ancient city of Ephesus, the stunning beauty of the Greek islands, with each featuring its unique identity and civilization, a shore excursion is the ultimate way to truly live the cultures and harbours which form this great Sea!

Discover new places, new flavours and new experiences Find full details and information on all the shore excursions on offer, please visit www.louiscruises.com Pre-book the shore excursion of your choice before you sail or simply visit the shore excursion desk on board. 9

Explore & Experience our Destinations ATHENS, GREECE Athens, the city with the most glorious history in the world, a city worshipped by gods and people, a magical city. The enchanting capital of Greece has always been a birthplace of civilization. It is the city where democracy was born and most of the wise men and great philosophers of ancient times. Visit the Acropolis, one of the most important ancient monuments in the world. The Parthenon is deemed the greatest monument of Doric architecture in Greece and will not disappoint as its aura is nothing short of awe inspiring. The Acropolis has its own museum (there are over 40 in Athens) which contains fascinating finds from the site. Other great museums include the Agora, the Benaki, Byzantine and National Archaeological museums. ISTANBUL, TURKEY The legacies of the Hittites, Greeks, Romans, Christian apostles, Byzantines, Ottoman Turks & the other civilizations that have called this land home have made Turkey a vast outdoor museum full of impressive, intriguing sites. Having hosted the world’s greatest civilizations throughout its 8.500-year past, and harboring a massive cultural heritage inherited from these civilizations, Istanbul offers visitors an opportunity to become familiar with its worldly culture and eternal touch of spice. Amongst the long list of touristic sites to visit during a tight congress schedule are, the Ayia Sophia Museum, Topkapı Palace, Dolmabahçe Palace, the Basilica Cisterns, a Bosphorus cruise, The Princes’ Islands, Süleymaniye and Sultanahmet (Blue) Mosques. IZMIR, TURKEY Izmir has come a long way since the late 1800s when the Ottoman elite christened the port city Kokaryali (Smelly Waterfront). Today the city has earned the nobler designation of Güzelyali (Beautiful Waterfront) and with the completion of a multimillion dollar redevelopment plan that includes a green waterside park , a promenade called the Kordon and the restored customs house (or Konak Pier) built by Gustave Eiffel, the name is more than appropriate. Little was left after the fire ignited at the tail end of the War of Independence destroyed all traces of the cultural melting pot that was Smyrna – and there is that perilous but dormant fault line to contend with. Eighty - two years after the reconstruction began, Izmir has been reinvented as a prosperous, cosmopolitan, commercial city, filled with wide boulevards and swaying palm trees. PATMOS, GREECE Famous for its religious past, Patmos is the island where Saint John the Theologian wrote the Book of Revelation (the Apocalypse). Today, this mountainous island and its small coves attract sun lovers who wish to dive in its crystal-clear waters. Patmos is one of the smaller islands of the Dodecanese, however, what it lacks in size it makes up for in beauty and history. Drive to the grotto of St. John. This small cave, now converted into a beautiful chapel, is where the Saint lived. A place not to be missed it the village of Chora, with its simple houses and Byzantine churches. It is from here where you climb steps to the Monastery of St. John the Theologian. Moreover is the three hundred year old house of the Simandiris family. A short walk through the old winding streets of Chora offers the opportunity to witness the beautiful old architecture of Patmos.

10

MYKONOS, GREECE Mykonos -Cyclades is considered by far the most cosmopolitan spot in Greece. The island is famous for its amazing, sandy beaches, picturesque villages and the vivid nightlife. Mykonos' town is one of the best examples of Cycladic architecture. A maze of narrow alley ways and streets, whitewashed houses, red and blue roof top chapels and a number of well preserved windmills give this town a unique character, not spotted anywhere else in the world. It embraces all visitors from around the world.

RHODES, GREECE

Rhodes, in the Dodecanese, is among the most beautiful and popular Greek islands. Its medieval castles, amazing views and clean beaches have made Rhodes world famous, attracting thousands of visitors every year. The Palace of Grand Master, is one of the best preserved castles in the Mediterranean and the symbol of the island. The Acropolis of Lidnos is overlooking the scenic village and is one of the most popular spots in Rhodes. It boasts gorgeous beaches, ideal for swimming. The monastery of Filerimos which was constructed on the hill of Filerimos, close to the site of Ancient lalyssos. The Acropolis of Rhodes is located on the hill of Monte Smith, west of Rhodes Town. The Aquarium is found close to the city-centre. The Archaeological Museum is housed in the Hospital of the Kings, one of the most important medieval sites. The valley of butterflies is a green valley full of plane trees and cool running water which creates a pure paradise and is a reproduction spot for butterflies. The monastery of Panagia Tsambika is among the most famous on the island, welcoming visitors from across the globe.

CRETE, GREECE The prefecture of Heraklion, is one of the four prefectures which form the island of Crete. Heraklion, is also the capital of the island. It is full of wonderful beaches, interesting archaeological sites, amazing landscapes, picturesque villages and impressive gorges. Trace Minoan civilisation at the awe-inspiring Palace of Knossos, where the fabled Minotaur lived. Discover more about Cretan viniculture with a tour of the Boutari Winery, with tasting included. Explore the museum dedicated to El Greco’s art and for a taste of Cretan village life, sip raki in Anogia's square, squatting in the shadow of Mount Psiloritis. Trek the dramatic, 18-km-long Samaria Gorge, the longest in Europe, to descend all the way from the White Mountains down to the Libyan Sea. This unique spot on earth must be seen. SANTORINI, GREECE Santorini is hailed the most beautiful and romantic island of the Aegean and one of the most gorgeous spots on the planet. Unique in every way: awesome landscape, cosmopolitan atmosphere, fascinating history, high quality services and idiosyncrasies in its everyday existence-quirks of custom or experience that you can only enjoy if you know the secrets of its lifestyle and history. Simply enjoy the most famous sunset from any part of the caldera of Santorini. Visit Fira, the capital of Santorini. Fira is very attractive, with winding narrow streets, white-washed houses, ancient marketplaces and picturesque churches. There is also a most important museum with prehistoric finds. Visit Oia, the most famous village in the western part of the island, and the archaeological site of Akrotiri. A volcano cruise is a magical experience! Visit Santorini wineries. Big or small wineries, traditional or industrialized, the wineries of Santorini are all very special. KUSADASI, TURKEY Ephesus is the highlight of any guest's experience in Kusadasi. Don’t miss the ancient city of Ephesus, visit the House of the Virgin Mary and the Basilica of St. John (who accompanied the Virgin Mary to Ephesus), the Celsus Library, the marble paved Arcadian Road, the Brothel, the Roman Baths, the Theatre where St. Paul preached, the Temple of Artemis (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), and see the statue of Ephesian Artemis while touring the Archaeological Museum of Ephesus in Selcuk.
