Gifts made during Centre Gives help Centre Region Parks and Recreation qualify for a share of the $500,000 stretch pool and earn special prizes, amplifying the impact of every dollar you give.

Build your own boat, and race it at Welch Pool! Boats must be made from cardboard, paperboard, and duct tape ONLY (colored duct tape is OK). Boats may be a maximum of 7' long and 4' wide. Paddles/propulsion must also be homemade using the same materials (or use your hands/feet). Race course will be one length of the pool (25 yards). Racers will be divided by division and category and may be separated into heats.

Cryptid Scavenger Hunt

Cryptids like Bigfoot, jackalopes, and unicorns are the colorful creatures of our collective imaginations. Join Schlow Centre Region Library and Centre Region Parks and Recreation (CRPR) as we host a Cryptid Summer Scavenger Hunt across the region’s parks. This self-guided scavenger hunt will take you to a different park each week to find a hidden mythical creature. Visit participating parks, scan QR codes, track your sightings, and maybe even discover a new cryptid or two. Bring your curiosity and your sense of adventure — the cryptids are waiting!

Bike Rodeo Gear up for a fun and educational day on two wheels! Kids will learn bike safety skills, test their riding abilities on a fun obstacle course, and get a free bike check-up. Helmets required—fun guaranteed! Perfect for young riders and families looking to boost bike confidence and safety. It is offered in partnership with PennDOT, Ferguson Township Police, and Centre Region Planning Agency. PennDOT will give away free bike helmets.

Pack a picnic, grab your favorite people, and kick back at the park for an evening of games and fun. The Rec on the Go truck will roll in with lawn games galore—perfect for playtime before the movie starts at sunset. Brought to you in partnership with WPSU. Movie titles coming soon!

Get Ready to Swim, Bike, and Run! The action kicks off with a swim at Welch Pool, followed by a bike ride along the scenic path to Blue Course Drive, and wraps up with a run across the State College Area High School field above the pool. Participants must come prepared with swimwear, their own bike and helmet, and running shoes or sneakers. Parents/guardians should be on hand to help with race transitions. Rain or shine, the race is on! (In case of thunder or lightning, the event will be canceled with a full refund.) Every finisher will walk away with a custom CRPR Triathlon medal—because you're all champions!

Med-Knit-ations: Knitting Hearts Back Together When we’re grieving a loss, our hearts can feel like they’ve been broken apart.

Here is an opportunity for you to knit your heart back together as well as bring joy to newborns. “Med-Knit-tations” is three sessions – each session is 90 minutes – where we will knit hats and/or sweaters for newborns in the beauty of the outdoors. No knitting experience is necessary! Knitting can be very meditative, and by making hats and sweaters for newborn babies, we hope it will provide a healing opportunity. Participants are responsible for providing knitting needles and yarn and will receive a list of the necessary supplies after registration. Offered in partnership with Koch Funeral Home.

Youth Flag Football Get ready for a fun, fast-paced season of flag football! This league welcomes all skill levels and focuses on building fundamentals in a safe, supportive, and player-centered environment.

Run through USA Football, the program prioritizes safety and skill development. All coaches complete certification training that emphasizes proper techniques and player safety, and Player Safety Coaches will be on hand to ensure safety protocols are followed.

The league meets three times a week, with games on Sunday afternoons and practices on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Whether your child is new to the game or looking to level up, this is the place to play, learn, and grow!

Welcome to the 2025 Centre Region Parks and Recreation Tennis League!

This season features three divisions to match your skill level: Recreational (USTA 2.5–3.0): Ideal for players looking to improve match play, court movement, and serving. Scores are kept, but reporting is optional.

Intermediate (USTA 3.0–3.5): For those seeking competitive play while continuing to build consistency and ball control.

Flexible Scheduling: You'll receive a full-season schedule and have one week to complete each match. Matches can be played at any court, any time that suits the players.

What You’ll Get: Each registrant receives one can of new tennis balls, available for pickup at the Parks & Recreation office.

Registration Info: Register for singles, doubles, or mixed doubles—one division per category. For doubles, only one teammate needs to register. No partner? Sign up using the “Requires Partner” option, and we’ll try to match you.

Backyard composting is an easy, inexpensive, and natural process that transforms your kitchen and garden waste into valuable, nutrient-rich food for your garden while keeping these organic wastes out of our landfills. Learn the basics of backyard composting: what to add and not to add to your compost pile, how to maintain a compost pile, and how to use finished compost.

Receive a home compost bin (pictured right) included with registration to get started. Led by Centre Region COG Refuse and Recycling staff. Sessions are the same, register for one.

Sunset Paddle Enjoy a leisurely sunset paddle on the lake at Coyler Lake. Kayaks, paddles, personal flotation devices and transportation are provided. Exploring 7 Forms of Rest for Women Are you a woman who has become disconnected with your right and ability to find rest in your day to day life? So many women are dealing with chronic stress, anxiety, and burnout without the tools and supports necessary to reorient their nervous systems, bodies, minds, and their lives. Women’s Self-care Coach Nova Ritchey is a survivor of burnout and has firsthand knowledge and training in how to bring rest and care of self, back into your life. This workshop will explore seven forms of rest we need in our lives. Each week we will delve into one of the different types of rest,explore ideas for how you can implement them into your life, and learn toolsand resources to carry with you beyond the workshop. Meditation, mindful breathing, grounding tools, healing through art, and other resources will be experienced throughout the workshop. Find what works for your individual body, mind, and life to create a space for the rest you deserve. Healing Through Movement for Women Explore healing of mind, body, and spirit through the modality of movement. Join Women’s Self-care Coach Nova Ritchey to explore gentle yoga, intuitive dance, and various forms of meditation. All bodies and ages can benefit from these practices to reduce stress, while tuning into where your body is holding tension and gently releasing it. Each class will begin and end with a guided meditation or breathing exercise, flow into accessible gentle yoga, and introduce participants to intuitive dance. These modalities aid in relieving stress of mind, body, and spirit, healing our nervous systems, and increasing body awareness to enhance a balanced lifestyle. This is an accessible class for all women and those who identify as women. No dance or yoga experience is necessary for this class, just a desire to connect to your own body, mind, and spirit in a healing way.

Swim Team Join a fun and competitive swimming program that emphasizes teamwork, cooperation, and healthy competition! The CRPR Swim Team is part of the Central Pennsylvania Swim League (CPSL), with meets held on weekday evenings throughout the summer.

To be eligible for the CPSL Championship Meet, swimmers must participate in at least two regular swim meets. ➡️ All swimmers must be registered before attending any practices or meets. ➡️ Participants must be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted—this is not a learn-to-swim program.

Parent Involvement: Swim meets are organized entirely by parent volunteers. Families are expected to assist with meet operations throughout the season.

We’re partnering with Delightful Divers to offer a SCUBA course that teaches the skills needed to become an Open Water Certified Diver.

Seal Team Youth SCUBA Looking for a fun underwater adventure? The PADI Seal Team program is perfect for kids ages 8 and up who want to explore SCUBA diving in a safe, poolbased setting through exciting AquaMissions.

In five one-hour sessions, kids will learn basic skills like breathing underwater, clearing a mask, recovering a regulator, and swimming weightlessly.

Bubble Makers Youth SCUBA Bubblemaker is an exciting intro to scuba diving for kids ages 8+. In the shallow end of the pool, participants learn to use scuba gear, clear a regulator and mask, and safely breathe underwater.

Deeply rooted in Chinese medicine, meditation, and martial arts, Tai Chi combines mental concentration with slow, controlled movements to focus the mind and challenge the body. This is an ongoing, multi-level practice group that includes individual and small group instruction. Beginners learn a 24-posture form that combines breathing with motion and balance. Ongoing warm-ups, stretching, and beginner instruction comprise the first hour. Intermediate and advanced forms are practiced during the second hour. New students are invited to attend the first class at no charge. Registration is required for each enrollment period.

There is a $2 per class fee that is paid to the Active Adult Center before each class you attend.

About Centre Region Parks & Recreation Authority The mission of the Centre Region Parks and Recreation Authority is to serve Centre Region residents of all ages throughout the year with a variety of recreation opportunities and access to facilities to enrich their lives through participation in programs, facility use, provision of leadership resources and technical assistance, and serving the participating municipalities' residents and groups. The Authority membership includes five municipalities--the Borough of State College and the Townships of College, Ferguson, Harris, and Patton, and the State College Area School District. Each municipality appoints one volunteer representative to serve a five-year term, plus one representative from the State College Area School District who is appointed by State College Borough Council. In October 2011, the five participating municipalities re-authorized the future of the Authority for January 2012 through December 2061. The Authority is a registered 501c3 non-profit and registered as a PA Bureau of Charitable Giving organization.
