Cryptids like Bigfoot, jackalopes, and unicorns are the colorful creatures of our collective imaginations. Join Schlow Centre Region Library and Centre Region Parks and Recreation (CRPR) as we host a Cryptid Summer Scavenger Hunt across the region’s parks. This self-guided scavenger hunt will take you to a different park each week to find a hidden mythical creature Visit participating parks, scan QR codes, track your sightings, and maybe even discover a new cryptid or two Bring your curiosity and your sense of adventure the cryptids are waiting!

Gear up for a fun and educational day on two wheels! Get Ready to Swim, Bike, and Run! The action kicks off with a swim at Welch Pool, followed by a bike ride along the scenic path to Blue Course Drive, and wraps up with a run across the State College Area High School field above the pool. Participants must come prepared with swimwear, their own bike and helmet, and running shoes or sneakers Parents/guardians should be on hand to help with race transitions Rain or shine, the race is on! (In case of thunder or lightning, the event will be canceled with a full refund ) Every finisher will walk away with a custom CRPR Triathlon medal because you're all champions!

L’il Striders

Balance bikes simplify what small children have to think about when first learning to ride. L'il Striders is built around five 45-minute sessions of learning, fun, socialization, and instruction sure to ignite a passion for riding. Youth Flag Football

Get ready for a fun, fast-paced season of flag football! This league welcomes all skill levels and focuses on building fundamentals in a safe, supportive, and player-centered environment.

Run through USA Football, the program prioritizes safety and skill development. All coaches complete certification training that emphasizes proper techniques and player safety, and Player Safety Coaches will be on hand to ensure safety protocols are followed.

The league meets three times a week, with games on Sunday afternoons and practices on Tuesday and Thursday evenings Whether your child is new to the game or looking to level up, this is the place to play, learn, and grow!

Beginner Tennis Lessons - Adult

Learn the basics of this lifetime sport. Instruction includes developing forehand, backhand, serve, and volley skills through practice games, skill drills, and more! We encourage players to bring their own tennis rackets, but some are available for players to borrow. This session is for players who are newer to the sport, as we start with the basics. All lessons will be held at Spring Creek Park Tennis Courts.

Summer & Fall Tennis Leagues

Welcome to the 2025 Centre Region Parks and Recreation Tennis League! This season features three divisions to match your skill level:

Recreational (USTA 2.5–3.0): Ideal for players looking to improve match play, court movement, and serving. Scores are kept, but reporting is optional.

Intermediate (USTA 3.0–3.5): For those seeking competitive play while continuing to build consistency and ball control.

Competitive (USTA 3.5+): Designed for experienced players with solid control and a variety of strokes.

Flexible Scheduling:

You'll receive a full-season schedule and have one week to complete each match. Matches can be played

Puddle Jumpers

Puddle Jumpers mixes outdoor exploration with fundamental learn through hands-on experiences in nature at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center. This drop-off program includes unstructured, imaginative exploration, and structured, nature-based, hands-on learning. Participants must be potty trained. Payment plans are available. Backyard composting is an easy, inexpensive, and natural process that transforms your kitchen and garden waste into valuable, nutrient-rich food for your garden while keeping these organic wastes out of our landfills. Learn the basics of backyard composting: what to add and not to add to your compost pile, how to maintain a compost pile, and how to use finished compost. Receive a home compost bin (pictured right) included with registration to get started. Led by Centre Region COG Refuse and Recycling staff. Sessions are the same, register for one.

Exploring 7 Forms of Rest for Women

Are you a woman who has become disconnected with your right and ability to find rest in your day to day life? So many women are dealing with chronic stress, anxiety, and burnout without the tools and supports necessary to reorient their nervous systems, bodies, minds, and their lives. Women’s Self-care Coach Nova Ritchey is a survivor of burnout and has firsthand knowledge and training in how to bring rest and care of self, back into your life This workshop will explore seven forms of rest we need in our lives Each week we will delve into one of the different types of rest,explore ideas for how you can implement them into your life, and learn toolsand resources to carry with you beyond the workshop. Meditation, mindful breathing, grounding tools, healing through art, and other resources will be experienced throughout the workshop. Find what works for your individual body, mind, and life to create a space for the rest you deserve. All materials for the creative work we will be making will be provided, as well as journals and handouts.

WALK WITH A NATURALIST

Make your trip to Millbrook Marsh Nature Center memorable. Our Naturalists have countless stories and information to share about the plants, wildlife, insects, and history of the area. Walks can be tailored to your interests, themed, or observational. $48 per hour for up to 12 participants. Up to 4 sessions at a time.

SCOUTS (8-20 SCOUTS)

Scouts will complete activities and explorations that meet all or some of the requirements for a badge or try-it while exploring Millbrook Marsh Nature Center with a naturalist. Leaders can schedule a program just for their troop or gather several troops together $10 per participant

We’re partnering with Delightful Divers to offer a SCUBA course that teaches the skills needed to become an Open Water Certified Diver.

Six classes held at Welch Pool

Four additional open water dives required for certification (details provided during class) Participants must provide their own mask, fins, and snorkel by the 3rd class (estimated cost: $200–$300; equipment info shared on Day 1)

Medical Waiver Required: Participants must complete a Diver Medical form. Physician clearance is required if any conditions apply. Dive into something new this summer!

Seal Team Youth SCUBA

Looking for a fun underwater adventure? The PADI Seal Team program is perfect for kids ages 8 and up who want to explore SCUBA diving in a safe, poolbased setting through exciting AquaMissions

In five one-hour sessions, kids will learn basic skills like breathing underwater, clearing a mask, recovering a regulator, and swimming weightlessly. Upon completion, participants become official PADI Seal Team Members and their experience may count toward a future PADI Open Water Diver course!

Bubble Makers Youth SCUBA

Bubblemaker is an exciting intro to scuba diving for kids ages 8+. In the shallow end of the pool, participants learn to use scuba gear, clear a regulator and mask, and safely breathe underwater Each child receives a Bubblemaker Crew-Pak with fun keepsakes like a kid-sized towel, logbook, certificate, tattoo, decal, and a Bubblemaker water toy.
