Grand Opening this Fall at Millbrook The expansion of the Spring Creek Education Building is almost complete. Staff are putting the final touches on interior finishes while contractors finish punch list items. A Grand Opening date will be announced soon, anticipating a fall October timeframe! The space will be open to fall programming and public rental opportunities will be announced soon! The Diane Kerly Welcome Pavilion/Restrooms are complete and open to the public. Whitehall Road Regional Park Work is nearly complete for this NEW park and a Grand Opening is anticipated sometime this fall! We’re awaiting a final review of site conditions, installation of netting, and grass growth in a few of the reworked areas, which has taken longer than anticipated. Plans are being made to construct a pavilion and concession stand in the coming year(s), which was originally part of Phase I. The building will be conveniently located next to the playground and restroom facilities. We’re very excited to open the park soon!

PBS Kids Movie in the Park Pack a picnic, bring your family and friends, and spend an evening at the park! The Rec on the Go truck will provide plenty of games to keep you entertained before the sun sets and the movie begins. Movie begins just after the sun sets.

Amazing Insect Hunt Search several municipal parks for some cool, creepy crawly insects!

Find eight (8) insect plates and create crayon rubbings of each for entry into a prize basket drawing. Entries must be correct and submitted in person to the CRPR Office or via email to blee@crcog.net by 9 AM Monday, October 14th to qualify for the drawing.

Chalk the Walk SPECIAL EVENTS

Get your art vibes flowing with sidewalk chalk along the bike path at Orchard Park. Each participant will get a portion of the path to create their masterpiece. After the event, CRPR staff will photograph each entry and upload it to our Facebook and Instagram accounts in each category.

Voting will commence the next morning at 8 AM. Once voting closes at 8 PM that day, votes will be tallied and winners will be announced in each category. Artists are required to provide their own supplies and materials. Installations may not contain logos, commercial speech or advertising, explicit sexual imagery, nudity, or graphic depictions of violence.

Spooktacular Quarter Bingo Enjoy a "Spooktacular" Evening of Quarter Bingo at the Active Adult Center! Bring $14 in quarters to play all ten (10) games. Juggling Skills This introductory program to juggling involves the participants in games and exercises to practice object manipulation with juggling balls. The practice strengthens concentration, hand-eye coordination, and self-esteem while building a creative community. The exercises include stretching, body movement, group games, and coordination.

Jonatas Campelo has developed his multi-faceted juggling techniques over the past 15 years as a circus artist. He started juggling in the streets of Brazil and studied with professionals throughout Latin America. He is excited to bring juggling to State College.

Med-Knit-ations: Knitting Hearts Back Together When we’re grieving a loss, our hearts can feel like they’ve been broken apart.

Here is an opportunity for you to knit your heart back together as well as bring joy to newborns. “Med-Knit-tations” is four sessions – each session is 90 minutes – where we will knit hats and/or sweaters for newborns in the beauty of the outdoors. No knitting experience is necessary! Knitting can be very meditative, and by making hats and sweaters for newborn babies, we hope it will provide a healing opportunity. CRPR is once again partnering with Koch Funeral Home. Participants will be responsible for providing knitting needles and yarn and will receive a list of the necessary supplies after registration.

HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is a training technique in which you give all-out, 100% effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short recovery periods. This type of training keeps your heart rate up and burns more fat in less time. For this class, we will be using a 50second intense period followed by 10 second rest period. The class is a 5X4 meaning four different intervals repeated five times. You will need a set of hand weights, a mat, and a chair (sometimes).

Youth Cross Country Runs at Oak Hall We have partnered with Nittany Valley Running Club to sponsor Centre Region Youth Cross Country (X-C) runs for youth, ages 14 & under. Pickleball Learn-to-Play Pickleball combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It is played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court or with a slightly modified tennis net. Lavender Scouts NATURE CENTER

Lavender Scouts is an affinity scouting group designed for queer (LGBTQIA+) and questioning youth. In addition to providing a safe space for youth in the queer community to make connections and grow together, badges will be earned by participating in activities that merge natural history, cultural history, creativity, and community service. Themes of strength, resilience, and identity will be juxtaposed with the flora, fauna, and habitats of the marsh. Participants will enjoy time naturalizing in the marsh on nature walks, doing nature-themed arts and crafts, and learning about the cultural history of the queer community and the Gay Rights movement in the United States.

The program is designed for ongoing enrollment (season-long), though can easily accommodate scouts who sign up after the season begins. Prorated fees and scholarships are available! Contact the Nature Center for more information.

Bird Walks with the STATE COLLEGE BIRD CLUB Start your day off right by observing birds that are migrating to and through the Centre Region.

Walks are led by members of the State College Bird Club and open to all ages. Great for beginners!

Dress for the weather and bring binoculars. In the case of heavy rain, the walk that morning will be canceled. A suggested donation of $5 per participant supports Millbrook Marsh Nature Center.

Tai Chi ACTIVE ADULTS

Deeply rooted in Chinese medicine, meditation, and martial arts, Tai Chi combines mental concentration with slow, controlled movements to focus the mind and challenge the body. This is an ongoing, multi-level practice group that includes individual and small group instruction.

Beginners learn a 24-posture form that combines breathing with motion and balance. Ongoing warm-ups, stretching, and beginner instruction comprise the first hour. Intermediate and advanced forms are practiced during the second hour. New students are invited to attend the first class at no charge. Registration is required with Centre Region Parks and Recreation on their website at www.crpr.recdesk.com for each enrollment period. There is a $2 per class fee that is paid to the Active Adult Center before each class you attend. Please wear loose-fitting clothing and sensible shoes.

About Centre Region Parks & Recreation Authority The mission of the Centre Region Parks and Recreation Authority is to serve Centre Region residents of all ages throughout the year with a variety of recreation opportunities and access to facilities to enrich their lives through participation in programs, facility use, provision of leadership resources and technical assistance, and serving the participating municipalities' residents and groups. The Authority membership includes five municipalities--the Borough of State College and the Townships of College, Ferguson, Harris, and Patton, and the State College Area School District.
