re you ready for some fall color, cooler temps, and camp fires? We are too, but we still have a few warm weather activities left before we fully transition to fall!

We had a great summer with Rec On The Go, Summer Tennis League, and our new Mini Warriors Obstacle Course Training Camp. But before we say goodbye to summer, plan to join us for our So Long Summer Shindig in Tudek Park on August 24!

For the fall months, we have some great events and programs that will keep you outside and active. Join us for our Dinner and a Movie event, register for some Youth or Adult Flag Football, step into your dance shoes and join us for our Barn Dance, and of course, be thinking about those Halloween Costumes and our Halloween Parade!

We’ve got a program, event, or park for everyone, so we hope to see you this fall on the bike trails, in the parks, at a sporting event, or kickin’ up your heels at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center!

Meet the Centre Region Parks & Recreation Authority

Each participating municipality (5) appoints one volunteer representative to serve a five-year term on the Centre Region Parks & Recreation Authority, plus one representative of the State College Area School District is appointed by State College Borough Council.

The Authority meets monthly on the third Thursday of each month at 12:15 PM. During the winter, the meetings are held at the COG Building and in good weather, the Authority will meet at various parks. The schedule is posted on the COG website if you’d like to join us! You can also find videos of the Authority meetings on C-NET. Bitty Ballet

Does your little one dance around the house to all kinds of music?

Think they might enjoy trying some dance lessons? If so, Bitty Ballet may be the perfect option for your wee one! Bitty Ballet is a six-week preschool ballet program for 2.5-5 year olds. Bitty Ballet is the best way to introduce young children to dance and creative movement.

LEARN TO RIDE PRIVATE LESSONS Private lessons are available for adults and children that don’t know how to ride a bike or learned a long time ago and want a refresher. It doesn’t matter if you’re 6 or 80, the instructor will get you rolling in no time.

YOUTH INSTRUCTIONAL CLASSES

CRPR is thrilled to offer again this learn-to-ride class for children ages 3-5 years. This class teaches kids how to ride on two wheels. The curriculum is built around five 45-minute sessions of learning, fun, socialization, and instruction sure to ignite a passion for riding. Upon completion of the course, children will have the balance and bike handling skills to be on their way to riding on two wheels.

Learn to Ride students learn how to balance, pedal, start, stop, and steer a bike, as well as adjust a helmet for proper fit. Most people learn to ride in one session, but even if you don’t you will be equipped with an easy, lowstress way to teach yourself or you can schedule another class.

Mountain Biking 101

State College is a great place to mountain bike and this is the perfect class for those who want to learn more about the basics of riding, where to ride, and the Nittany Mountain Biking Association (NMBA). This introductory clinic will cover topics to get you riding and enjoying off-road trails. Skills covered will include: braking, bike/body position, cornering, navigating obstacles on trails, basic bike maintenance/repair, and trail etiquette. After the instructional portion of the class there will be an hour-long group ride. If you plan on riding you must bring a mountain bike, properly-fitting helmet, and water.

Do you want to start biking or feel more confident navigating local routes? Bike Maintenance 101

If you are new to cycling or just want to learn more about caring for your bike, then this class is for you! Find Art in Earth

The purpose of Find Art in Earth is to be inspired by a mindful walk and each class begins with yoga and meditation in a natural setting in order to tap into creativity in different art forms. Class will take place at a different local park each week and possible activities may include:”speed” watercolor painting using dyes out of natural materials, deep listening activities then transcribing a musical piece, acting out a nature play, creative writing, a drum circle and more! Youth Sports Girls Rhythmic Gymnastics

Rhythmic Gymnastics remains the perfect combination of arts and sports. Rhythmic Gymnastics will help to build coordination, develop confidence, and enhance creativity while working with apparatus including ribbons, clubs, balls, hoops, and in some cases no apparatus at all. No experience necessary.

Youth Flag Football

This flag football league is operated by the Centre Region Parks and Recreation for children going into grades 1st-7th, and is open to children at all skill levels with an emphasis on improving skills in a safe, competitive, player-focused environment. The league is committed to providing a positive football experience in a safety-first program through USA Football’s “Heads Up” Football Program. All coaches will be trained in “Heads Up” Football procedures and will be required to complete a Coaching Certification through USA Football. This training includes techniques on how to properly teach football skills with an emphasis on player safety. The league will also have USA Football certified Player Safety Coaches that are trained to ensure that “Heads Up” safety protocols are respected. The league will operate three times per week with games on Sunday afternoons and practices Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Practices will begin in mid-August at Spring Creek Park, then all practices and games will move to Oak Hall Regional Park by Labor Day weekend. Teams will be formed into two or three divisions with all players practicing and playing at the same sites on the same days. The fee includes a jersey to keep.

Learn to Play Pickleball

Try something new in 2019! Pickleball is a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It is played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court or with a slightly modified tennis net. Participants use a paddle and a plastic ball with holes and the game can be played as doubles or singles.

Join members of the local Pickleball League for basic instruction and lots of fun! This clinic is an introduction to Pickleball for beginners. Instruction will include serves, returns, and third shot drops. All equipment will be provided and following instruction, matches will be played incorporating skills learned during instruction.

Guided Bird Walk

Start your day off right by exploring Millbrook Marsh. Come see and hear the birds that are migrating to and through the Centre Region. Walks are led at a moderate pace by local bird enthusiasts. Open to all ages with any level of experience. Please dress for the weather and bring binoculars. In the case of heavy rain, the walk that morning will be canceled. Registration not required.

Full Moon Walk

Explore the marsh in a whole new way as you enjoy activities during this non-scary walk that encourages participants to be comfortable in the darkness. Pollinator Garden Work and Learn Join Danielle Lanagan, Volunteer Garden Coordinator and Millbrook Marsh Naturalist, for our Garden Work and Learn Sessions in our pollinator and shade gardens. Wetland Senses

Grades Preschool-K

Why are wetlands so important? What is a watershed? Learn about the importance of wetlands and how they are natural filters. Explore the marsh and understand this important habitat, watersheds, and the area where we live. Participants will explore the marsh, learn about wetlands and their importance, study the stream and its creatures, understand the history of the area, and much more! (Activities may vary based on age.) This program may introduce topics in the following Pennsylvania Department of Education Academic Standards for Environment and Ecology categories: 4.1, 4.5, 4.6, & 4.7. (Wear water boots or shoes!)

This program encourages children to fully experience the marsh by using their senses while learning and discovering. Four senses (no tasting) will be incorporated into fun, educational activities to get children exploring, touching, viewing, playing games, and more in a hands-on experiential way. Participants will complete activities and explorations specifically designed for scout groups that meet all or some of the requirements for a badge, while exploring Millbrook Marsh Nature Center with a naturalist. Leaders can schedule a program just for your troop or gather several troops together.

We will have live music by Kristi Jean & Her Ne’er-Do-Wells playing honky-tonk and rockabilly, West Beaver Arts Collective playing blues funk, and Triple A Blues Band. Join the Silver Spurs for line dancing, and Happy Dishes and Brazilian Munchies will have full menu selections available for purchase. Bring out your Ghouls, Goblins, Fairies and Avengers to the 73rd Annual CRPR Halloween Costume Parade. The parade forms on Burrows Rd in the block between College Ave and Beaver Ave. at 6:30 PM. Step Off is promptly at 7 PM. Costume judging, with over 10 different costume categories takes place at Memorial Field with cash prizes and candy treats provided by the State College Lions Club! Join us for Dinner and a Movie on our sports fields! That’s right, we’ve got the perfect setting for an outdoor movie with a view! Join us at Oak Hall Regional Park as we show the film “The Neverending Story,” rated PG. Our concession stand will be serving up some family-friendly dinner options or you can bring in your own picnic dinner! Gates will open at 6 PM so you can get dinner, and then we’ll have some great yard games available before the movie--corn hole, Plinko, Giant Connect 4, and more! Movie will start at 7:45 PM, and the concession stand will remain open through 8:30 PM. Please dress for the nighttime temperatures and bring those picnic blankets, picnic chairs, and maybe a flashlight for the walk back to your car. Admission is $10/car at the gate.

Visit the Active Adult Center for spooktacular good times at our Haunted Center. This year we are partnering with the Penn State RPTM class for a ghoulish good time. Come and join TRIAD the second Thursday of the month for an educational presentation. Evening Bingo

Get your game face on and join the Active Adult Center for a fun evening of BINGO! We will be playing Wednesday evenings at 6 PM beginning September 25. Walk and Tone

Walk and Tone is a walking workout that gets the blood pumping at a brisk pace with easy-to-follow moves and intervals with strength training exercises for the upper body, core, and lower body. Step Interval Cardio & Weight Training

Fit and Strong for Active Adults

Through a grant from National Recreation and Park Association, (NRPA), Fit and Strong is a physical, self-management program for older adults or persons with lower extremity osteoarthritis or lower body pain. The program helps improve the participant’s functional and physical activity. Classes combine flexibility, strength training, and aerobic walking with health education. Participants are to wear loose fitting clothes and sneakers. Classes will include one hour of gentle exercise and 1/2 hour of health education. IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION GENERAL • Most programs have limited enrollment. Registration is accepted on a “first-come, first-served” basis. Registrations are processed in the order they are received at the CRPR office, and program/event fees must be paid at the time of registration.

• How to read Program Fees: Resident Fee (R): For residents of State College Borough & the Twps. of College, Ferguson, Harris & Patton.

Nonresident Fee (NR): For residents of all other municipalities.

• No registrations or payments can be accepted by CRPR instructors, unless specific info. is provided within a program description.

• CRPR reserves the right to adjust program meeting schedules, pending weather conditions and facility availability.

REFUNDS • If a refund request is made at least 7 calendar days prior to the start of the program / camp week, a full refund (less a $5 processing fee) is provided for the program.

• If a refund request is due to injury or illness after a program starts, a prorated refund is provided (a doctor’s excuse may be required).

• If a program or class is canceled, a prorated refund or credit is provided.

CRPR YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS • We welcome Centre Region youth to participate in CRPR programs and activities and we may be able to provide reduced fees to

Centre Region Parks & Recreation Authority does not carry accidental injury insurance to cover medical costs of persons accidentally injured during the course of participating in CRPR programs.
