Come learn about chemistry with graduate students from Penn State! Kids elementary school-aged are encouraged to participate alongside their parent/guardian to learn and explore three fun demonstrations led by the instructors. The demos will explore basic science concepts and all materials will be provided on-site. Additional instructions will be provided if you want to explore the demos further at home. The session is designed to last from 45 mins to one hour. Registration is required to participate. Please only register one person from your group of 6 or fewer. Muck-N-Mess

Dress your kids in their play clothes and come ready to get mucky and messy! Your kids will have a blast getting their hands gooey and ooey while creating artwork, completing science experiments, and playing messy! Parent participation is encouraged. Messes are encouraged and we handle the clean-up!

SC Community Theatre Academy

Centre Region Parks and Recreation is thrilled to partner with State College Community Theatre to offer the SCCT Academy Fall classes. At the State College Community Theatre Academy, we teach Life Skills through Stage Skills. Our goal is to teach valuable theatre skills, including acting, building character, improvisation, musical theatre, and backstage production work. We focus on building foundations and fundamentals of theatre for our younger students and enhancing skills for our older students. Our students will leave with a stronger knowledge of the craft of theatre and will learn life lessons in creativity, teamwork, focus, and communication. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or this will be your first time ever on stage, there’s a place for you at the Academy! Instructor: Kerry Clancy, State College Community Theatre.

Let's Be Creative: Inspired Minds Want to Know NEW!

Learn how to mix colors, draw shadows, draw some items in 3D, and paint snow and sunsets with the artwork of Fairfield Porter, John Constable, Monet, and Wendy Puerto being our inspirations! Please bring a 5×7 sketchbook with mixed media paper. Classes are held at Savage Art Studio in Park Forest. Instructor: Lori Savage.

Beginner Juggling!

This introductory program invites anyone 5 and older to participate in fun games and exercises to play juggling. They will develop skills like concentration, hand-eye coordination, and self-esteem while building a creative community. The exercises include group games, and coordination drills to present different juggling techniques. Kids will come away with knowledge and skill in juggling as well as a set of handmade juggling balls. Jonatas Campelo has developed his multifaceted juggling techniques over the past 10 years as a circus artist. He started juggling in the streets of Brazil and studied with professionals throughout Latin America. He is excited to bring juggling to State College!

CodeWiz: Junior Coders (Live Online)

Our Junior coders class is a perfect introduction for youth! We use a drag-and-drop coding platform that allows kids to understand the fundamentals of coding without having to type! In this class, the students will be able to make games, animations, and more with the help of our instructors! Your child will acquire skills in order to make their own games: including characters, enemies, and levels! While doing this they will learn about programming fundamentals such as iterations(for loops, while loops, nested loops) and conditionals (if-else statements).

CodeWiz: Making 2D games in Godot (Live Online)

Our 2D Game Development class using Godot is the perfect class to let your child’s creativity shine. We use a popular game engine, Godot, which is free to use, with a simple programming language that is similar to Python. In this class, students will have the opportunity to make a demo of their dream 2D game! Your child will learn how to draw pixel art, program in a Python-like language, and create their own game demo!
