HiallinincredibleCroydon,

Only a short Tele this month as not a lot has been going on for my front but it will be a lot busier next month. So I started the month by travelingtoKarumbafortheROCassemblyput on by the LGAQ where the leaders of most of the Regional Organisation of councils and their CEO met to discuss our strategy leading up to the State election in October, also at that meeting Senator Chisholm and I were able to have a good one on one discussion about the lack of money being spent on ageing infrastructure up in the Far North and more importantlytheGulfcountry.

Ilefthiminnodoubtthatthetimehascometo startspendingbillionsintheFarNorthonthings like water infrastructure, bridges and housing. I went on to say the people of the Gulf are not interested in shiny things and trinkets, we need real investment from the Federal Government, I also told him that when a bush mayor puts his hand up for help we are serious and don’t bury us in red tape because we wouldn’t ask if we didn’tneedit.

Back home we had some training by the DepartmentofLocalGovernmentoncouncillors interestsandthenwehadtogohomeanddoit allagainonline, whichIthoughtwasridiculous.

The Deputy Mayor and I zoomed in to the NWQROC meeting where again all the talk was aboutstrategyleadinguptotheelection. Weheldalocaldisastermeetingwiththepolice and other stakeholders, we updated and endorsed our Local Disaster Management Plan and we discussed the upcoming bush fire season.

A WORD FROM OUR MAYOR

Croydon played host to the RDA - Regional Development Australia and .id (Informed Decisions)people.Wewereintroducedtoother government departments and had a great presentation from Informed Decisions on the data that they have been collecting for our regionovertheyearsandweweretoldthatwe areingoodhealthasaShire.

And last but not least we had some training from Queensland Treasury on finance and budgets and they also said that we were in goodshapefinancially.

So that’s what we have been up to this month so enjoy the perfect weather it won’t last much longerandasalwaysstay, humbleandkind

Cheers, Trevor.

Meet Aarti Naidu, our Childcare Director extraordinaire! She was born in the picturesque coastal town of Sigatoka, Fiji, as a middle child of three. Growing up, she enjoyed the lush greenery and local produce of her hometown, which is affectionately known as Fiji's "salad bowl" for its bountiful vegetable production.

Her childhood was filled with close friendships, and as a teenager, she loved nothing more than exploring the nearby shopping centre with her friends, engaging in shopping and lively conversations. Aarti started her working life juggling paperwork at the local school. She married her long-time beau in 2001 and made the big move to Australia with Dharmendra in 2004.

Brisbane was their first stop, where she quickly landed a job in Aged Care and hit the books to get her Certificate. But Croydon’s charm was irresistible, and by August, they were proud Croydonites. Aarti jumped into the childcare world as a part-time assistant, quickly making her way to full-time, and her passion for little ones pushed her to get her Certificate III in Childcare Education. Her enthusiasm didn’t stop there–shewentontocompleteherDiploma.

Aarti’s the proud mum of three boys. The family took a detour to Brisbane in 2014 for their oldest, Nathan, to start high school. Missing our lovely community, they came back in 2017 (minus Nathan, who’s off at boarding school). Aarti returned to her roots in childcare, first as Acting DirectorandnowasourfearlessDirector.

Today, her heart remains tied to her hometown, and she eagerly anticipates future holidays to reconnect with her family and childhood friends. This is the time when Aarti is pampered by her mother, who prepares traditional culinary delights, including her favourite dish, Chicken Palau.Arecipeonlyhermumcanmaster!

Her passions? Aarti treasures the moments she spends with her own sons and values the wideranging conversations they have together. Maintaining connections is essential for her, as evidenced by the strong bonds she maintains with her family in Fiji despite the distance. Thankfully, modern technology allows for hourslong video calls, which she cherishes. Aarti and her little family enjoy engaging in outdoor activitiestogether, suchascamping.

Gardeninghasrecentlybecomean excitingnewpursuitforAarti. Primarilyfocusingongrowing vegetables, she aims to incorporate her homegrown produce into her culinary creations forherlovedones.

Her dream? To travel the globe and see all the places she’s read about. Cheers to Aarti, the heartofourchildcare!

Say hello to Cheyenne Freeman, our fabulous Childcare Educator. Hailing from Herberton, Cheyenne is a proud Tagalaka woman and the fifth of nine siblings – yes, you read that right, nine! Growing up in such a large family, Cheyenne learned early on the importance of patience, teamwork, and a good sense of humour.

Cheyenne attended Atherton High and discovered her passion for cooking early on, startinghercareerasanapprenticechefin2013. Her culinary journey took a new turn in 2015 when she moved to Croydon. She whipped up delicious dishes at both the local café and the hotel, earning quite the reputation for her culinary skills. But the kitchen, as it turns out, wasn’therfinaldestination.

In2017,Cheyennetookaleap intotheworldofchildcare, startingasacasualeducator.

The move was inspired by her love for her younger siblings and her own children, Cade andCarla.Findingimmensejoyinnurturingand educating young minds, she quickly completed herCertificateIIIinChildcareandisnowworking towardsherDiploma.

As a mother, Cheyenne is all about family adventures.ShelovestakingCade, herenergetic five-year-old, and Carla, her spirited two-yearold, on fishing and camping trips. These outings arefilledwithlaughter, marshmallowroasting,

and the occasional fish tale. Despite her busy schedule, Cheyenne still finds time to indulge in her first love—cooking. She occasionally steps back into the hotel kitchen on Sundays to prepare her famous carbonara, delighting both localsandvisitorsalike.

Cheyenne'sjourneyinchildcarehasbeendeeply rewarding. She’sknownforhercreativeactivities, whether it's crafting, storytelling, or organising mini-explorations in the garden. Her infectious enthusiasmandwarm, nurturingapproachmake her a beloved figure among the children and theirparents.

Her long-term goal? To complete her Diploma in Childcare, continue watching her kids grow, and maybe even incorporate her culinary skills into fun, educational cooking sessions with the children.

Cheyenne dreams of blending her passions to create a well-rounded nurturing atmosphere for allthekidsinhercare.

Meet Jasmine Brugh, our Trainee Childcare Educator and newest team member. Born and raised on the Tablelands, Jasmine attended Malanda Primary and High Schools, where her younger sister Lily is still diligently studying. Known for her vivacious spirit and boundless energy, Jasmine has always been one to take on new challenges with gusto.

In2019,JasminemovedtoCairns topursueherpassionfor hairdressing, earningherCertificateIII at Hairhouse Warehouse. She quickly made a name for herself with her creative styles and knack for making her clients feel fabulous. However, after a few years of cutting and colouring, she decided to take a break from the hustleandbustleofthesalon.In2022,shemoved to Tolga and took on the unique job of packing limes, whichshefoundsurprisinglytherapeutic.

But Jasmine’s journey took another exciting turn in 2024 when she applied for and was accepted into a childcare traineeship. This career shift was inspiredbyherloveforworkingwithchildrenand her desire to make a positive impact on their earlydevelopment.

Her experience in hairdressing taught her patience, attentiontodetail, andhowtobringout the best in people – skills she now brings to her roleinchildcare.

Jasmine's long-term dream is to open her own hairdressing salon in Croydon, where she hopes to combine her love for styling with her passion for community. She envisions a vibrant, welcoming space where clients can relax and childrenarealwayswelcome.

Inherdowntime,Jasmineenjoys bakingupastorm,especially experimentingwithnewand creativerecipes.Whenshe’s notinthekitchen,youmightfindher binge-watchingAdamSandlermovies–she’sahugefanofhishumour.

Although Jasmine was once an avid horse rider, she’snowitchingtolearnhowtorideamotorbike. She sees it as the next big adventure and can’t waittohittheroad, notliterally.

Her enthusiasm and zest for life make her a perfect fit for our childcare team, and we’re excited to see her grow and thrive in this new role.

Croydon ChildCareCentre

Hey there, Croydon and surrounds!

We've been on a whirlwind of adventures lately. NAIDOC Week was a blast with trips to the park for markets and artsy crafts, a splash of colour for the fun run at the Rec Grounds, and crafting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags at the Centre.

The RFDS Simulator took us on a wild ride exploring the RFDS plane, dressing up as doctors, nurses, and pilots, and playing out all sorts of medical scenarios. From checking temperatures to bandaging wounds, we did it all!

A visit to the school for some snazzy Centre photos was a hit - the kids rocked their best outfits and beamed with those big smiles. Can't wait to see how they turned out!

Here at the Center, we're all about diving into the world of sustainability and finding ways to give our planet some extra TLC by reducing, reusing, and recycling. Our little champs have been on a roll sorting trash from treasure, crafting recycled paper, and whipping up compost from food scraps to feed our greenhouse pals.
