IdecidedtocompeteintheDr.Worldsystemduetoits focus on education, mentoring, and community service, as well as the exceptional leadership within the organization. Dr. Diana Lawrence, the founder of the Dr. World system, embodies professionalism, care, and integrity, making the system stand out as a beacon of qualitywithinthepageantcommunity.

After suffering from Mental Health and having a nervous breakdown and being admittedintoamentalhealthhospitaland also being a victim of sexual abuse I wanted to find a platform where I could make a difference to highlight the improtanceof‘ItsOKNotToBeOK’andhelp others who are in the same situation to realisethattheyarenotontheirownandto helpanyonewhoisstruggling

In2023IwonShiningLightNationalPageant withthetitleMrShiningLight.Thiswasthe first pageant system I competed in and throughthepowerofsocialmediausedthe platform to highlight my purpose through fundraising events and awareness in the runuptothepageant.

Shining Light is the biggest pageant in Northern Ireland and also open for male enteries and this pageant system is solely focused on raising awareness and fundraising for Mental Health Charities in NorthernIreland.

Since joining the pageant community I have run numerous fundraising days, attendedfellowQueensandfinalistsbucket collections. I have setup relevant monthly campaigns I have had my personal story published in numerous newspapers and Belfast Live I have taken part as Baton BearerfortheBatonOfHopeinBelfastonits journeytoWestminister.Ihavealsohosted a Night of Extravaganza and a Charity Pageant

Iamapageantnewbie!I’vemodelledinthe pastbutthisisacompletelydifferentandif anything, more fulfilling. I have always enjoyed making positive change in my community and helped better the Camberley Town centre by working with Surrey Police and the centre to combat anti-socialbehaviourandmakethetowna safter place to live and shop This focus resulting in myself winning a ‘Camberley Hero’ award which was lovely but the biggest achievement was knowing that I madepeoplefeelheardandfeelsafeandI want to use my journey to make better changes As a neurodivergent, dyslexic, braininjurysurvivor,IhopethatIcaninspire my community and show that if you work hard and have a passion or a goal you wanttoachieveyoucandoanything

Asstrangeasthissounds,it’staughtmeabout me!At26,IthoughtIknewwhoIwasbutgoing onthisjourneywithMissGreatBritainSurrey,as well as my own injury recovery journey, has taught me about the authentic me, to be yourself because there is only one you and that’s fantastic. It has made me more confidentinmyself,ithasshownmethatIam strong,Iampassionate,Iamdeterminedand also,Ihavethementalitytokeeplevellingup, to be the best version of me. What’syourpageantplatformandwhy?

I have a varied platform I champion womenandsupportingwomenasmuchas I can whilst making powerful social changes I have teamed up with L’Oreal Paris, a global beauty giant to raise awareness of street harassment that womenfaceonadailybasis.Bycompleting twofree10-minuteprogrammes,youhave the knowledge and power to stop this behaviour and make positive changes to the safety of women. I am also raising moneyforCancerResearchUKbywalking 10 miles for them as well as co-hosting a fundraising evening with a female owned business I have through enjoyed learning about Cancer Research and even applied tobeanambassadorforthem Iamalso using my platform to raise awareness of PCSandheadinjuriesintheUK

Take a deep breath and enjoy yourself! It canallgobysoquicklysogetinvolvedinas muchasyoucanandenjoythejourneyand thefriendshipsyoucreatealongtheway.I havedefinitelymadefriendsforlife!

Whathaveyoubeendoingintherunupto yourpageantfinal?

Gosh, I have been up to all sorts! I have beensupportingmyfellowfinalistswithall their fundraising events as women supportingwomenissoempowering!

IamaCancerResearchAmbassadorwhichI am very excited about so raising money for thisorganisationisveryexcitingtome!Onthe 18 th May, I am walking 10 miles for Cancer ResearchUKasnotonlyapersonalchallenge but to raise as much money for Cancer Research UK I will also be co-hosting a fundraising evening with an amazing female leadbusinessonFriday14thJuneinCamberley to raise for Cancer Research whilst also makingsomelocalconnectionsforthefuture I have also set up my own non-profit organisationcalled‘Headstart’.

I founded ‘Headstart’ to raise awareness of a neurologicalconditioncalled“PostConcussion Syndrome” a condition, that makes the body and brain continue the symptoms of concussion months and even years after a concussion which is sustained through an injurytotheheadorbrain

I never heard of this condition until I was diagnosed with it myself, so I want to educate and raise awareness of this conditionsopeopleknowaboutitandknow the signs and symptoms to look out for I postavarietyofdifferentcontentfromfact of the day, to resources to inspiration messagingformyfollowers.Iamalsointhe processofhostingmyowneveningwitha localsurreybusinesstoraiseawarenessof PostConcussionSyndromeand‘Headstart’ whichIhopecanhelppeopleinthefuture.

Whatmakesagoodpageantrolemodel?

Agoodrolemodeltomeissomeonewho empowers women, spreading inspiration andpositivitytoallinwhattheydo.Ibelieve being hard-working, caring and compassionateandcarryingyourselflike aqueenisanimportantqualitytohaveas agoodrolemodel.Takingthetimetoinvest indiscussionsoneispassionateaboutand looking into bigger ways of how you can make a difference and give back is also veryimportant Ithinkit’srewardingtousea platformforthebetter,inspireotherand setting a good example and probably the mostimportantbeingyou!

Howdoyoudealwithpageantnerves?

My singing teacher always told me that nerves show you care so, harness that energy and use it as your motivation! But aboutall,enjoyyourselfandhavefun,and dothebestyoucan!
