WHERE IS HASHEM?

When the Rebbe Maharash was a boy, he had a talent for woodworking. He used a pocket knife to make nice carvings. When he was five, a Chassid said to him, “I have a good pocket knife. If you tell me where G-d is, I’ll give it to you.”

The boy took his own good pocket knife out of his pocket and said to the Chassid, “If you tell me where He is not, you can have my pocket knife.”

The Chassid said, “If so, you have won my pocket knife.”

PROOF TO THE SUCCESS OF THE BAAL SHEM TOV’S APPROACH

The mashpia, R’ Yechezkel (Chatshe) Feigin once explained the mitzva of G-d’s unity to his students and the chiddush of the Baal Shem Tov that there is no actual existence, as opposed to the understanding until the Baal Shem Tov that although G-d has no partners, there is an existence aside from Him.

One of the bachurim got up and yelled, “How is it possible to think there is an existence? It is not possible for a believing Jew, who observes Torah and mitzvos, to think like that!”

R’ Chatshe said, “Your very question and surprise demonstrate the success of the Baal Shem Tov’s approach.”

I BELIEVE!

Before Pesach 5699/1939, Russia conducted a census. One of the questions was, “Do you believe in G-d?”

On Shabbos, Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Schneerson, the Rebbe’s father, proclaimed before a large

audience in the shul that it is prohibited for a Jew to deny his belief in G-d, and therefore prohibited for a Jew to give a negative answer to this question.

One person, who worked in a government office, whose wife answered on his behalf that he does not believe, went to the census office and amended his census form saying the previous answer was incorrect and he did believe. This man was very pleased that he had the courage to do this and he went to the rav to thank him for convincing him to do so despite the danger involved.

MESIRUS NEFESH FOR JEWISH IDENTITY

When the Nazis, ym’s, entered Paris, an order was immediately issued to register all residents with their religion and race. Their intentions were obvious, to prepare the Jews of France for the Final Solution...

When they went to the Rebbe’s home, he wasn’t there and due to the danger, Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka told them that the people living there belonged to the “Orthodox” religion which could be “Greek Orthodox.” The officials understood her to mean Greek Orthodox and that’s what they wrote down. In those days, it was literally a matter of saving one’s life.

When the Rebbe came home and found out, he said, “I do not want to be disconnected from G-d and the Jewish people even on paper!”

He went to the official registration office and to the astonishment of the officials, he asked them to correct the response to the religion question with the word “Jewish.”

5 Ingredient Chocolate Lava Cakes

This is for real deal chocolate lovers ONLY! All others, need not apply. When it comes to the ooey gooey "lava" center the bigger the chocolate chunks the better.

INGREDIENTS

4 eggs

1 cup sugar

1½ cups (200- 250g) chocolate chips

¼ cup extra virgin olive oil

8 large squares of chocolate (the bigger the better)

⅔ cup flour or potato starch

PREPARATION

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease 8 ramekins with cooking spray.

1. In a double boiler or microwave, melt chocolate and oil. Let cool.

2. Whisk eggs. Add sugar and whisk well.

3. Slowly stream and whisk cooled, melted chocolate into egg mixture.

4. Gently mix and fold in flour until completely combined.

5. Pour into greased ramekins or cupcake liners.

6. Press a chunk of chocolate into each cupcake.

7. Bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes.
