VIDEO PRESENTATION
We
Our Sages teach us the great importance of the mitzvah of tzedakah and encouraged us to do so daily. The Lubavitcher Rebbe, of blessed memory, established a unique fund seventy years ago, which ensures that we perform the mitzvah of tzedakah—every single day of the year
Make one contribution to Machne Israel’s Keren Hashana, in an amount corresponding to the number of days in the new year (383), and monies from the fund will be distributed on your behalf twice daily, before shacharis and before mincha, for charitable purposes.
As we begin the new year, contribute to the Keren Hashana daily tzedakah fund, for yourself and for all your family members.
With blessings for a
As Rosh Hashanah approaches, there are 300 Crown Heights families who are wondering how they will put food on their yom tov tables.
Keren Anash is determined to help them welcome Tishrei with joy and dignity, but we need your help! Take part in our campaign and bring the true joy of yom tov to you AND your neighbor!

"Without Keren Anash, our Yom Tov meal would be challah and soup."
Before his passing, Moshe encouraged the Yidden to strengthen their commitment to Torah and mitzvos. Moshe told the Yidden, “The Torah is very close to you, in your mouth and in your heart, to do it.’’ Even when it seems difficult, you should always remember how close it really is.
On the cover page of Sefer HaTanya, the Alter Rebbe brings this posuk and explains, “The goal of this sefer is to explain, how it is possible for a Yid to feel how close the mitzvos are.” The Alter Rebbe concludes that the Tanya will explain this idea, “In a long and short way, with the help of Hashem.”
Question – What does the Alter Rebbe mean with the words “long and short way?”
Answer – We can understand this with the following story:
Once, when Rebbi Yehoshua Ben Chananya was traveling, he approached a crossroads near the city. Not knowing which way to proceed, he asked a child on the side of the road which road he should use to enter the city. The boy answered wisely, one way is a short–long way, and the other
is a long–short way. Rebbi Yehoshua decided to try the short–long way. He arrived at the city very quickly but was not able to enter, because it was blocked with fields and orchards. He went back and tried the other, long–short way. Although the second road was longer in distance, he was eventually able to enter the city easily. He realized how right the boy was. What seemed to be a shorter road was longer, and what seemed to be a shorter road was longer!
With this, we can understand what the Alter Rebbe means that the Tanya teaches us how to serve Hashem, “In a long-short way.”
There were many seforim printed before the Tanya that teach us how to serve Hashem. The Tanya, however, gives us the method of how we can connect to Hashem in a way that is guaranteed. It may be a long journey, but it will actually bring us to our final destination, to love and fear Hashem with our full heart!
Lesson – The Alter Rebbe wrote the Tanya having in mind all Yidden in all generations, to guide them in their avodas Hashem. When we learn Tanya, we try to apply its lessons in our day–to–day life!
This week we read the seventh haftorah of consoling. It is always read on the Shabbat before Rosh Hashanah. It is read with the portion of Nitzavim (and sometimes, NitzavimVayelech)
What is the connection between this haftorah and Rosh Hashanah? What message is there to be found here for the new year?
The parshah begins, “You are all standing here today before G-d your G-d.” The day we all stand before G-d in judgment is Rosh Hashanah.
Just as there is a hint to Rosh Hashanah in the first verse of the parshah, so is there a hint to Rosh Hashanah in the first verse of the haftorah.
The haftorah begins, “I will rejoice in G-d, my soul will exult in my G-d.” “I will rejoice,” is an open joy, referring to Sukkot (“The Time of Our Joy”), where the central theme is joy. “My soul will exult” is an inner joy, hidden in the soul, refers to Rosh Hashanah. There is joy on Rosh Hashanah because it is a holiday, because of the special mitzvah to blow the shofar, and because of what Rosh Hashanah represents and accomplishes. It is the crowning of G-d as our King for another year, a new G-dly energy coming into the world, and G-d inscribing us, in the book of life, for a happy and sweet year. But this joy is hidden in the awe and solemnity of the Day of Judgment. As it says, “they will exult trembling.”
Why is the order reversed, first the open joy of Sukkot, and then the hidden joy of Rosh Hashanah? Doesn’t Rosh Hashanah come first?
Perhaps there is an open joy that precedes Rosh Hashanah. Whenever a mitzvah is done, it is
accompanied with joy, the joy of a mitzvah. Even more, there is also joy preceding the mitzvah, in anticipation of doing the mitzvah. With Rosh Hashanah on its way and the anticipation of all the things that causes the hidden joy, there is an open joy before Rosh Hashanah. Especially, as brought by the Tur, since the Jewish people are certain that they will be meritorious in judgment on the Day of Judgment, they dress in white, take haircuts, etc., before Rosh Hashanah—such preparation expresses the joy that comes before the holiday.
Just as the first verse of the haftorah tells us about hidden joy, the last verse also tells us about something hidden. Looking at the exile, Isaiah says: “In all their troubles, He was troubled.” G-d is with us through all our difficulties and suffering, albeit in a hidden way.
The haftarah ends, “and He bore them and He carried them all the days of yore.”8 During the exile, G-d is not only with us, but He is also carrying us through it all.
For His reasons, G-d puts us through so many difficulties; we all suffer in this exile. I choose to think that our suffering somehow accomplishes great things. When we look back at the hardships, we realize that G-d was with us all the time, carrying us through it all.
Rosh Hashanah is the head of the year. Like the head controls the whole body, so does Rosh Hashanah affect the whole year. If we come into Rosh Hashanah with the knowledge that G-d is always with us, it will not only help us throughout the year, but when faced with challenges, we will allow G-d to take care of things. We will realize that G-d is there to carry us through it, and we could rely on Him.
Rosh Hashana is a veryholy day where every second impacts the entire year. Our Rabbeim were careful not to talk on Rosh Hashana, especially during the first day. Every word was only davening or Tehillim.
The Tzemach Tzedek would talk during the seudos of the RoshHashanah. He would speak about government ministers and what took place in the capital. The Tzemach Tzedek would ‘arrange,’ through his words and davening, which ministers and leaders would be promoted and which would lose their jobs. This was called making sedorim in Petersburg, creating an order in the Russian capital.
Here is one example of how the
Tzemach tzedek made sedorim in Petersburg.
There was a man named Lilienthal who had many connections in the government. He was from the Enlightenment ( Reform) movement and helped make decrees against Yiddishkeit. One Rosh Hashana, he was supposed to pass a terrible decree made by the Reform movement, forcing all the chadorim to learn the Reform curriculum.

BlowIt
Do you know of anyone who may not hear Shofar on Rosh Hashana? It’s a Mitzvah for every Yid to hear it!
because of this he needed to escape Russia. He fled to Cincinnati and the yidden of Russia were saved.

The words of a Rebbe are holy and have the power to arrange the way the world runs.
When yidden unite it is so powerful that it creates a whole new thing.
Cake
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup oil
1 cup milk (I used almond, such as Gefen
Almond Milk, to keep it parve)
3 cups flour
3 teaspoons Haddar Baking Powder
1 teaspoon Gefen Cinnamon
Crumbs
1 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon Gefen Cinnamon
1/3 – 1/2 cup oil
1 medium apple, peeled and diced small
1. In a bowl, mix all the cake batter ingredients together. Pour into a very well greased tube pan. (I used a bundt and kept the cake upside down.)
2. In a separate bowl, mix together the crumbs ingredients. You want it to have the consistency of wet sand, so if it’s dry just add some more oil.
3. Sprinkle the apple crumbs on top of the batter.
4. Bake for 40-45 minutes.
5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Farhenheit.
