As we reflect on the past year, we are delighted to present you with this report “Building a Community.”
It serves as a testament to the collective efforts and unwavering support that have allowed Crown Center to continue its mission of fostering a community rooted in Jewish values, where all older people can thrive.
The heart of our organization lies not only in the programs and services we provide but also in the stories of those who passionately contribute to our cause. We are humbled and inspired by the generosity of our capital campaign donors, whose stories and motivations exemplify the true essence of communal responsibility.
In the following pages, you will have the privilege to get acquainted with just a few of these remarkable individuals and families dedicated to our mission. Their reasons for supporting us are as diverse as they are powerful.
At Crown Center, we believe in the dignity of each and every individual and strive to create a nurturing space where older individuals can find joy, purpose, and a sense of belonging.
In this report, you will also find a comprehensive overview of the various initiatives and programs that have allowed us to make a significant difference in the lives of seniors. From health and wellness services to cultural enrichment programs, our offerings are carefully curated to address the unique needs of those we serve.
None of this would be possible without the unwavering dedication of our staff, volunteers, and community partners. Their hard work and commitment form the bedrock on which Crown Center’s success is built, and we are profoundly grateful for their contributions.

“I’m involved with quite a few community organizations. None are as important to me as Crown Center. When I was asked to join the board 14 years ago, I was drawn to its commitment to the older adults it served: not just the apartments, but the lifestyle.
My parents taught me to give back to the community. They touched the lives of thousands of boys and girls over a lifetime of service, first at Council House, then Camp Hawthorne (Sabra’s predecessor) and finally at their own camp, Camp Thunderbird. It was how they made the world a better place, boy by boy, girl by girl.”

“My Grandmother had lived in the original Delcrest Building, so there was an early connection. I was privileged to deliver Meals on Wheels from Crown for a number of years. I became friendly with the people I delivered to – sometimes they hadn’t spoken with someone all day. The many services and companionship provided at Crown Center have a great impact on the lives of the residents. It feels great to be able to contribute to the new building and be part of something special.”
Gloria and Sandy (z”l) Spitzer always felt it was important to protect and take care of senior adults, building a legacy of philanthropy, always giving back of their time. They volunteered throughout their lives.

Les Borowsky has been involved at Crown Center for decades and has served in many capacities including as Board President and is currently a member of Crown’s Council of Life. Les and Wendy Borowsky continue to support Crown Center in honor and in memory of their parents.

In June 2023, we opened the doors to the Crown Center Phase 1 Apartment Building and the new community center, The Staenberg Commons, welcoming all to our community.
Looking back, 2022 was the year when once again, we gathered together as a community. Crown persevered, despite ongoing interruptions in our daily lives, and continued prioritizing the ongoing needs of seniors – those who call Crown home, and those who count on Crown as their community center. Here is a snapshot of Crown Center’s past year.
Crown Center’s Dining Programs
provide Kosher Vaad-approved meals that are prepared in the kitchens at the Circle@Crown Cafe and Crown Center.
19,000+ Kosher meals were prepared and delivered to clients.
Social Services staff
help residents and community members meet the challenges of aging by providing case management, counseling and referrals for support services.
227 residents utilized services provided by Crown’s social services staff.
53 non-residents had contacts with Crown social workers for supportive services.
1,700+ interactions occurred between Crown social workers and senior adults.
Programming includes social connections, experiences, and productive engagement to bolster an individual’s ability to age-in-place and live independently.
132 fitness, health and wellness programs helped participants stay fit and mobile.
70 Jewish life experiences – holiday celebrations, and literary arts opportunities, and special events gave spiritual substance.
148 visual, culinary, theatre, dance, literary and arts opportunities enriched lives.
120+ residents & community seniors rely on Meals onWheels for their daily nutritional needs.
Volunteers include both community participants and Crown residents.
1,710 hours of service were generously provided by Crown volunteers.
102 individual volunteers helped Crown in a variety of roles.
Financially Crown Center is sound with a sustainable portfolio of diversified and predictable revenue streams that support Crown’s Mission.
