GROWING THROUGH A CRISIS IN CROWLEY ISD The public health disaster caused by the COVID-19 epidemic has impacted all of us.

Closing school buildings for an extended amount of time was a difficult, but necessary, decision for the safety of our students, staff and community.

Crowley ISD is continuing to serve our students and families during this unprecedented time with distance learning, technology resources, free meals and more.

LEARNING FROM A DISTANCE We want to make sure students keep learning and stay engaged during the extended closure. Teachers in Crowley ISD are using Google Classroom to deliver online lesson plans for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.

These online lessons are designed with flexible schedules in mind. Students can complete the assignments at their own pace each week. And for our youngest learners in pre-kindergarten, we are providing a weekly calendar of activities.

TECHNOLOGY RESOURCES Every high school student in Crowley ISD receives a Google Chromebook laptop computer to use at home. To help younger students engage in distance learning, we are distributing additional Chromebooks to households across our district. The district is also providing internet hotspots to homes with limited internet access. Families can submit a request for these devices on our website.

FREE STUDENT MEALS Crowley ISD and Aramark are providing free, grab-and-go meals for children ages 18 and younger during the district closure. Three meals are provided Monday through Friday at 16 curbside locations. We are proud to be one of the only school districts in the area providing three meals a day, including warm lunches and dinners.

DISTRICT LEADERSHIP DR. MICHAEL D. MCFARLAND Superintendent of Schools

Dr. Michael McFarland is the superintendent of schools of Crowley ISD, where he serves more than 16,000 students and 2,000 employees across 24 campuses.

His focus on student achievement and creating opportunities for all students to succeed is taking Crowley ISD to the next level. Under his leadership since joining the district in 2017, students are making significant academic gains, with increases at every grade and in every subject based on the most-recent State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) results.

More families are now choosing Crowley ISD for their children, and enrollment has increased by more than 800 students since Dr. McFarland’s arrival.

He and the Crowley ISD Board of Trustees are planning for future growth, with two new schools opening in the fall of 2020.

Originally from Jasper, Texas, Dr. McFarland earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in business education from Baylor University, a Master of Education in educational administration and superintendent certification from Stephen F. Austin University, and a Doctorate of Education in educational administration from Baylor, where he now serves on the Baylor Board of Regents.

BUILDING TOMORROW’S FUTURE Enrollment is climbing in Crowley ISD, reaching an all-time high of more than 16,000 students in 2019-20. With more new homes being built across our fast-growing district, Crowley ISD is prepared for long-term growth. These construction projects, funded by the 2007 bond package, will benefit students of all ages across the district.

• June W. Davis Elementary School – Opened in the fall of 2019, this new school is located off McPherson Boulevard in the Chisholm Trail Ranch neighborhood.

• New Bill R. Johnson CTE Center – This state-of-the art facility will offer more opportunities for Crowley ISD’s high school students to receive hands-on training for more than 30 career fields. Located next to the Sewell Agricultural Science Center on Longhorn Trail in Crowley, the new CTE Center will be a cornerstone for our community for years to come.

• Crowley Collegiate Academy – As CCA moves into its fifth school year in the fall of 2020, it will be ushered into a new, expanded space that is dedicated to its hardworking students.

• Richard J. Allie Middle School – The current CTE building will become a fourth middle school, as originally designed. Dr. Christopher White, Crowley Ninth Grade Campus principal, will now serve as principal of the new middle school when it opens in the fall of 2020. The school’s mascot will be the Rams.

• Fine Arts Expansions – Musicians at Crowley High and North Crowley High have more practice space with band hall and choir room additions that were completed prior to the in 2019-20 school year. The auditorium at North Crowley High School was also renovated and enlarged with 300 new seats.

• North Crowley High Gym Expansion – In the fall of 2019, 700 seats and a video board were added to the home gym at NCHS. The new space creates a total capacity of 2,000, allowing the campus to host events with all students in attendance. It also includes coaches offices, media room, weight room and an expanded lobby.

• Crowley Ninth Grade Addition – An academic wing was added to the west side of the Crowley Ninth Grade Campus that included six new classrooms and two science labs. The campus has a new lecture hall and expanded library.

• Operations Building – Set to open this spring, the new operations building will be home to the Maintenance, Safety and Technology departments and will be south of the current facility off Crowley/Cleburne Road.

special education spotlight DEAF EDUCATION Crowley ISD is home to the Regional Day School Program for the Deaf, hosting students from Crowley, Burleson, Everman, Alvarado, Joshua, Cleburne, Godley, Grandview, Rio Vista and Keane.

CISD provides assistive listening devices for many of deaf education students which amplifies sounds from a teacher’s microphone directly into the student’s personal hearing aids. We also provide sign language interpreters for students who need that support when they are in the general education classroom or attending assemblies or extracurricular activities.

Donna Heim, CISD’s Special Education parent liaison, showcases more than 250 art entries at the annual Making Connections Disability Resource Fair.

AUTISM PROGRAMS - RISE AND IMPACT RISE: Reaching Independence through Structured Environments This program is for students with autism who have a cognitive disability, limited verbal language abilities and deficits in problem behavior. The RISE teachers and staff are skilled and require a high level of organization, planning and patience with students. Students remain in one classroom for the majority of their day. Program outcomes lead to an increase in language and a reduction of problem behavior.

IMPACT This program is for students with autism or characteristics of autism who are on or close to grade level with deficits in social skills. The students in this program spend the majority of their time in a general education setting.

The IMPACT staff support them in the general education classroom and through social skills lessons in the IMPACT classroom. The teachers relate to students in a way that students feel they have a sense of community and are able to improve the students’ social skills throughout the school environment.

2020 CROWLEY FFA HEART OF CROWLEY SPECIAL NEEDS LIVESTOCK SHOW In February, FFA students from the B.R. Johnson CTE Center helped high school special education students show sheep, rabbits and swine for a livestock show in front of a packed house at the district’s Charles and Jenny Sewell Agriculture Science Center Livestock Facility.

ONLINE PRE-K ENROLLMENT IS NOW OPEN Students who attend pre-kindergarten develop social, emotional and academic skills to thrive in kindergarten and beyond. Young learners gain confidence as they master academic concepts and learn to interact with their peers under the guidance of qualified, caring educators. Full-day is available for 4-year-olds, while full-day and half-day options are available for 3-year-olds.

JROTC has one of the most rigorous and effective career-related leadership curriculums. As cadets progress through the program, they experience opportunities to lead other cadets. They follow a chain of command, enabling lower classmen to observe the upper classmen lead, teach and make decisions, before assuming the role themselves. Observing leaders in action enables students to experience authentic responsibility for others, which can instill in them genuine concern for the success of the larger group; a key component of effective leadership.

MIDDLE SCHOOL JUNIOR CADET CORPS PROGRAM

Grades 7-8 // Enrollment: 170 // Programs: Color Guard, Honor Guard, Academic team, Physical Fitness team The Junior Cadet Corps program is offered at H.F. Stevens and Summer Creek middle schools. JCC provides students with the opportunity to learn in a structured environment that will assist them in building character, leadership skills, professionalism and discipline. The program takes a hard look at the future and focuses on life skills courses that support objectives regarding drugs, theft, personal nutrition, character education, academics and first aid education.

This reputation for excellence took the diligent efforts of coaches, student/athletes, parents, and community supporters, as well as the support and encouragement of an outstanding administration.

CISD’s athletic programs include North Crowley High School in Class 6A, Crowley High School in Class 5A and three middle schools.

GROWING LIKE CRAZY North Crowley opened its doors in 1998 as a 3A high school with 969 students, but grew quickly, becoming a 5A high school in 2004, which was the largest classification at the time. The Panthers became a 6A campus in 2014 that now boasts 2,681 students from 9th-12th grade.

WALKING THE STAGE North Crowley’s graduation rate (95%) easily surpasses the state graduate rate and is one of the highest in the area.

CROWLEY COLLEGIATE ACADEMY TWO DEGREES IN FOUR YEARS In partnership with Tarrant County College, Crowley Collegiate Academy (CCA) is an innovative option for students in Crowley ISD to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and an associate degree, with tuition and textbooks provided at no cost.

GROWING LEADERS CCA scholars learn to lead. Every activity on our campus has been initiated by a student or student group. Student groups develop, plan and execute these activities with guidance from their teachers and administrator.

PROTECTING THE BANK Scholars can save between $35,000-$75,000 towards a bachelor’s degree, based on Texas in-state tuition and fees of four-year public universities, by earning an associate’s degree in high school.

CROWLEY LEARNING CENTER TRAINED TO RESTORE STUDENTS Our campus is a trauma-informed campus and our teachers are highly trained in social and emotional learning strategies. Our teachers practice restorative practices each day and we strive to meet the needs of the whole child. We do not punish children, we restore them.

ALWAYS ON THE MOVE The Crowley Learning Center opened its doors in 1995, but it has only been in its current location for three years to make accomodations for the growth in Crowley ISD. OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP We have had eight principals since the CLC was established in 1995 and our current leader, Rashad Muhammad, has served our students since 2018.
