Spectator Safety at Chester Racecourse
Challenge
Chester Racecourse required a certified hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM) solution that could be rapidly deployed ahead of race meetings and fully removed outside of event hours. The goal was to enhance spectator safety without compromising the visual integrity of the historic venue. Traditional security measures had proven both challenging and time-consuming to install and de-rig, often clashing with the aesthetic and operational needs of the site. Solution

With a compact 600mm profile and foundation depths from just 200mm, it offers strong security with minimal disruption. The system is fully removable, requires no heavy equipment to install, and can be customised to suit the racecourse’s branding.

Unafor Core foundations were strategically installed around the racecourse. On event days, operatives simply insert the posts using a quick, click-and-lock mechanism—with no need for heavy machinery. Bradford City Centre
Regenerating and Protection ahead of City of Culture 2025
Challenge
As part of its regeneration plans and preparations for becoming the 2025 UK City of Culture, Bradford needed to pedestrianise key areas in the city centre while ensuring robust protection from vehicle-borne threats without disrupting the visual or functional integrity of the space.
Solution
Crowdguard partnered with Bradford Council, Sweco, and Balfour Beatty to deliver a bespoke Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) strategy. A combination of Unafor’s removable and fixed shroud systems were installed in Centenary Square, providing certified protection with minimal visual impact and operational disruption.
Implementation
Each location was assessed individually to meet specific operational needs. Removable systems were deployed where authorised vehicle access was required, while fixed systems secured high-footfall pedestrian areas. Football stadiums welcome thousands of fans on matchdays, requiring thoughtful solutions to manage pedestrian movement and reduce vehicle-related risk, particularly around entrances and fan zones. Traditional security barriers can be visually intrusive and disruptive to daily operations.

The system’s manually removable design enables quick transitions between matchday security and everyday access, without the need for heavy machinery. When not in use, the posts are safely stored on dedicated trolleys. To enhance both functionality and fan engagement, the units were custom branded in club colours and integrated with QR codes, allowing supporters to access ticket sales and key information on arrival at the stadium.
