READY, SET, GO

DARRELL NESBITT/CROSSROADS THIS WEEK

Youth who enjoy an afternoon of sliding down a snow packed hill on a toboggan never complain about a little extra snowfall, as more white stuff simply means more fun. Good friends, Nixon Ostash, left, and Landon Kimpinski, picked up speed on Shoal Lake’s number one sledding hill, while carefully watching for additional youngsters ahead of them, on this Sunday, March 15 run.

Crossroads This Week

It was a big Saturday for the community of Oakburn as local farmers Braden and Misty Drul were named Manitoba’s Outstanding Young Farmers for 2026. The couple, who run Drul

Farms Ent. north of Menzie, received the honour during the regional awards held March 14 at the Elkhorn Resort at Onanole. They stood alongside fellow nominees Brett and Chantel McRae of Brandon and Joe and Jen Friesen of Grunthal.

For Braden and Misty, the win

is about more than just a trophy; it’s about the life they’ve built on their multi-generational grain and oilseed farm. Since marrying in 2016, the couple has focused on growing the family business while raising their two children, Adilynn and Clayton.

Both grew up on farms nearby, so they knew exactly how much sweat and dedication the job required. Braden brought home an Agribusiness degree from the University of Manitoba, while Misty balanced her career as an X-ray/ Lab technologist with the demands of the farm. They haven’t just stuck to tradi-

tional crops, either. To keep their staff employed year-round and make the business more resilient, the Druls branched out. In 2019, they started a farm equipment assembly business, and later opened a Pioneer seed agency.
