The much-anticipated annual Ste. Madeleine Days, located southwest of Binscarth, has been postponed as the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is reallocating its immediate resources to assist wildfire evacuees in northern regions.

Originally set for July 18 to 20, the event is expected be rescheduled once the wildfire crisis is under control. In its place, the local community has organized a heartfelt fundraiser to raise money and gather supplies for those affected by the ongoing wildfires.
The decision to postpone Ste. Madeleine Days was made out of necessity, as the MMF are ensur-
ing their resources are going directly to the affected northern communities.
“Postponing the event while our Métis brothers and sisters and all community members are going through tragedy, was something that had to be done,” explained Kim Venne, Ste. Madeleine Heritage Local secretary-treasurer, “Lives are much more important –
the safety of these evacuees and their fur babies. Knowing that they are cared for and comforted is the key goal here.”
With wildfires threatening the northern populations, community members are actively helping, while awaiting updates on the situation, prioritizing safety and compassion above all.
“For now, the event is post-
poned, and everyone is busy helping, or waiting and watching the development of the wildfires, and we want to be able to assist in any way we can as a Local and as a community,” Venne added. In response to the crisis, the community has quickly rallied together.
