DARRELL NESBITT/CROSSROADS THIS WEEK
Minor hockey casts an avenue for youngsters to enjoy the sport, meet personal goals, and learn the game under knowledgeable coaching staff. This level showcases that size and strength does matter, in checking and stripping a puck away from an opponent, as was the case on this play when the U9 Shoal Lake Eagles hosted the Minnedosa Bombers on Sunday, Nov. 2. Although the Eagles were flying high this afternoon, sportsmanship ruled the day.

Crossroads This Week
The community-run Friendly’s Grocery Co-op, located in Inglis, took a celebrated step toward a massive renovation project after winning a $2,500 grant at the Fusion Credit Union Community Infusion 2025 event on Oct. 21. The funding will go toward purchasing the front door of their new facility – a small but essential step in a plan to move out of a smaller location and into a modern community hub.
“We were happy to receive any funding from the Community Infusion grant,” she said.
Glenda Chescu, secretary for the Co-op’s board, emphasized that every dollar is important for the ambitious plan.
From old rink to essential grocery store, for years, the Co-op has operated from an over 100year-old building with only 900 square feet of retail space. The community is now working to transform the old curling rink, which has been unused for over 20 years, into the Friendly’s Grocery Co-op’s new home. This move will expand the store to a spacious 5,000 square feet, allowing it to offer services the village desperately needs. The expansion is the key to the Co-op’s mission, which is to keep the Village of Inglis “alive and thriving.”

The new facility will finally allow the store to become a “onestop shop,” providing a full grocery store with a wide selection, a much-needed coffee shop and bakery, and essential gas and diesel service, which is currently unavailable in Inglis.
