Residents of Prairie View Municipality (PVM) are enjoying a smoother, safer Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 83 this winter, thanks to the completion of a major reconstruction project between Beulah and Birtle. The $42.7 mil-
lion investment was part of the Manitoba government’s ambitious summer infrastructure program, which wrapped up 23 projects province-wide by October 2025. The reconstruction project involved 17 kilometres of bituminous reconstruction on PTH 83, spanning the section from PTH 355 to PTH 42. While the summer
months were marked by construction, lane closures, and occasional traffic slowdowns – a necessary inconvenience for the long-term benefit – the timing was perfect to ensure a clear and improved driving surface before the challenging winter season arrived.
“From Woodridge in the east, to Birtle in the west, Grahamdale in the Interlake and Split Lake in the north, communities across Manitoba are now able to access safe and functional roadways,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor.
“The summer is always the busiest time of the year for infrastructure investments, and our government made the most of this time,
completing multiple major projects.”
The PTH 83 reconstruction was a significant undertaking, representing one of the largest projects on the government’s $230 million summer infrastructure list.
