The mother was seen with her 2025 offspring, which is likely soon to be on its own as the female prepares to give birth to a new calf. Moose populations in Manitoba have overall generally declined over the past 10 to 15 years, particularly in Duck and Porcupine Mountains.

A number of dogs have gone missing from rural farmyards across the region and one local resident is looking to bring attention to the matter in hopes that they may be found. Yvonne Laderoute of Shoal Lake
says that after hearing about a missing dog locally, she went on Facebook to start raising awareness, and that is when she saw the real scope of the problem. “I started to mark down all the missing dogs and locations all weekend,” said Laderoute. “I tracked the times and dates and places they went missing. It looked
like a pattern starting in Minnedosa and ending with Grandview.” Laderoute says that during her search she has seen that a six-yearold German Shepherd mix went missing from Minnedosa on April 11, an 11-month-old Rottweiler went missing in Shoal Lake on April 18, an 11-month-old Boston Terrier went missing near Russell on

She also noted a dog went missing in Birtle around the same time. “It just seems suspicious,” Laderoute said. “We are very concerned that they maybe were taken for stud purposes.” With little else to go on, Lad-
eroute feels that the best action is to alert the public of the situation. “We need help to stop this from happening and find our dogs,” she said. While owners continue their search for their pets, the public is asked that if they have seen anything suspicious related to the missing animals, to contact the RCMP.
