With rain in the forecast for Saturday, June 6, a GIP crew carrying out construction work on the bridge spanning the Birdtail River within the Solsgirth valley focused on covering the structure with plastic to keep the working area as dry as possible. Motorists travelling Highway 16 are reminded to adhere to reduced speed limits, and be sure to use extreme caution while travelling the detour.
Local trail organizations receive grant funding

Two local trail organizations are among 19 recipients of provincial trail grant funding announced recently by the Manitoba government and Trails Manitoba.
Clear Lake Country Destination Marketing Inc. in Wasagaming and the Rossburn Subdivision Trail As-
sociation each received $15,000 through the 2026 Trails Manitoba Grant Program. The Rossburn funding will go toward general trail maintenance.
In total, more than $200,000 was distributed across the province, with the 19 projects receiving a combined $200,238.
Environment and Climate
Change Minister Mike Moyes
made the announcement, highlighting the importance of trail infrastructure for Manitoba families.
“Trails are spaces where families can enjoy and experience the incredible landscapes and wildlife that make Manitoba so unique,” Moyes said. “Our government understands that trails are an affordable way for families to connect with nature and are essential for
the health and well-being of Manitobans. We are proud to partner with Trails Manitoba to invest in the maintenance and enhancement of trails across the province.”
Manning agreed, stating that trails are critical infrastructure, providing all Manitobans with pathways to health and well-being, reconciliation, economic development, tourism, and environmental
stewardship.
“We are honoured to partner with the Manitoba government, municipal and Indigenous governments, and trail organizations in delivering trail projects across our gorgeous province,” she said.
The funding announcement coincided with Manitoba Trails Day on June 6.
