A Bit of Eden, Right Here When you hear the word Eden, what do you think? Paradise? A perfect world? In senior living circles you will hear the word expressed as The Eden Alternative Mission. At Northglenn, Michele, our former Executive Director, Diana, our Marketing and Admissions Director, and Marla, our Activities Director, are each Certified Eden Associates. Here is what that means. At Northglenn, residents’ rule. Our activities and programs are resident directed. That is why we have Resident’s Council with democratically voted officers and meetings that follow Robert’s Rules of Order. As a result, we have residents sharing their gifts and talents. Mark, a professional painter/art educator, teaches two painting classes each week. Marylen teaches a Sign class weekly; Jeannette and Janet assist kitchen staff with dining room set ups and many residents help in our vegetable garden. Northglenn is a person-centered community and as part of this culture the Director’s office doors are always propped open to be available to residents, staff, and family members. Spontaneity is a crucial ingredient to our culture of a person-centered culture! And perhaps most importantly, our residents can have cats and dogs! We have at least one visiting dog every day. What we do at Crossroads allows our residents to be part of a thriving lifestyle that encourages independence in the decision making process, respect and honor for that individual’s decisions, and provides a path for each to become a purposeful member of our family.
