Crossroads Courier

An older man, living alone, decided he wanted to add a pet companion to his life. After thinking long and hard about the decision, he buys a parrot and brings it home. However, the parrot almost immediately starts insulting the older man and gets really rude. In a moment of frustration, the man picks up the parrot and tosses it into the freezer to teach it a lesson. But when the bird stops squawking, the man panics and opens the freezer. The parrot walks out, looks up at the man, and says, “I apologize for offending you, and I humbly ask your forgiveness.” The man replies, “Well, thank you. I forgive you, and I’m sorry too.” The parrot then says, “If you don’t mind my asking… what’d the chicken do?”

Occasions Welcome Sarah Dubs

You may recognize Sarah Dubs from her salon days giving people that special “doo.” But let’s face it, having lived in Delta for 44 years, you are likely to have met Sarah Dubs. Sarah is a mom to two two older teen-agers and is married to her husband Chuck, also a Delta Native, and a professional land surveyor. She worked in Delta and Montrose counties in administrative and director roles prior to deciding to “step out from behind a desk, and step behind the chair as a hairstylist and salon owner. “I had always loved helping people and had an interest in hairdressing,” Sarah says. “I absolutely loved my clientele which consisted largely of our senior population.” In April, she sold her salon and started working part-time as Crossroad’s stylist. “Almost immediately,” she says, “I realized how much I missed working in Assisted Living.” Having obtained her Assisted Living Administrative license in 2018, she felt the pull to come back, and accepted the position of Marketing and Admission Director for Crossroads at Delta. Sarah says, “I gravitate towards our seniors for their stories and knowledge. I find them fascinating.” She said that it is her grandmother, Evelyn, that inspires her to do what she does every day. Evelyn was in assisted living for 10 years prior to passing away in 2020. “She and I always had a special connection and I want to be that person that makes a senior feel special and loved and that they are always heard.” The bottom line for Sarah: “If I can make someone’s day a bit brighter and make someone smile or laugh, then it’s a great day!”
