TALENT SCOUT TEAM The CrossPurpose Talent Scout Team exists to pool community resources and relationships in order to find and hire talented and mission-aligned individuals to our diverse staff team.

At CrossPurpose, our mission is to abolish economic, relational, and spiritual poverty through career and community development. Since 2012, we have graduated over 500 neighbors into careers and into self-sufficiency. As we look back on the journey, we can attribute our success to the fact that we have hired great people. Period.

In 2021, we launched a 5-year plan to open three new locations and expand the number of families we serve each year from 200 to 800. As we scale, we are looking to hire more great people, more than 20 in 2022 alone. However, we also care about how we build the team. One of our core values is Relational Weave, which means we endeavor to weave a social fabric across race and class lines to create a new community. To do this well, we believe we need a team that is representative of the communities we serve.

While we have worked hard in this area in the past, we believe we must grow in order to become the team we dream of. After working with several staffing agencies, incentive programs, and traditional recruiting strategies, we are not satisfied with where we sit today and cannot afford to adopt strategies that do not work. Therefore, we are launching a new initiative to create a team of volunteer recruiters who will help us find top quality candidates to join our team. This will be called the Talent Scout Team, and we are inviting you to become a Talent Scout for us.

To incentivize this team, we are offering a $10,000 reward for every referral that gets hired. In order to hit our objectives, the first phase of the Talent Scout program will be exclusively for referrals of individuals who identify as people of color. Our current student population is approximately 30% African American and 30% Latino, and therefore we desire the majority of our candidates to reflect this demographic. Once we get closer to the diverse team we desire, we plan on opening up our incentive program for all referrals.

program impact At a Glance We exist to abolish economic, relational, and spiritual poverty through career and community development. When we started working with our neighbors in northeast Denver in 2008, we knew that the problem of poverty could not be solved with fragmented or relief-based approaches. Instead, we focused on creating a model that would eliminate poverty itself, rather than simply lessening its effects. By participating in our tuition-free career and community development program, our students (called Leaders) can graduate from poverty and participate in meaningful work.

By 2020, CrossPurpose successfully completed a five-year goal to get 1,000 people out of poverty. We are now pursuing a new strategic plan to expand the program and bring 5,000 people out of poverty by 2025.

For every $1 invested in our Leaders, we see a $6.45 return, based on earned income, decreases in government benefits, and taxes paid.

CrossPurpose graduates complete the program with a new job skill, a livable wage career and a strong sense of community and support. After graduation, Leaders join the Alumni Association where they receive continued services, including financial coaching, professional development and the opportunity to give back to future Leaders.

The average wage for Leaders upon graduation is
