Red Iron’s Corner This has been an exciting year here at Crossland, for both our company and for the Crossland family. We just celebrated our fourth Crossland family wedding in 2014! It sure has been busy, but enjoyable getting to witness the celebrations of all these great couples joining their lives together. I would like to congratulate my brother Mike on his son Mikey’s marriage just this past weekend, my sister Patty on her son Erick Jessee and daughter Brooke who both got married this past summer, and also my son Brandon. I would like to congratulate all of the newlyweds! As I attended these weddings over the past several months, I realized that in many ways these family milestones and our company have several similarities. Just as the Crossland family is growing, our company continues to grow and expand as well. We have continued to set new records for yearly and monthly volumes at Crossland, and we have so many people to thank for making this possible…our customers, employees, subcontractors and friends. Crossland strives to be a community builder and we would not be where we are today without all of you. At each celebration I saw people who have been lifelong friends of the family and company. People who have helped us in the good times and the bad. That is one of the things we strive for in our company as well—building lifetime relationships—that’s the Crossland Way. We have employees who have been with us since the very beginning and they aren’t just part of the company… they are family. We also have had the pleasure of building not only great business relationships over the years but great friendships as well. As these awesome couples join the Crossland family and attend family gatherings, I’m sure they will bring fresh ideas and perspectives. Just like in business you need to be open to new ideas and innovation. An important part of the Crossland Way is to embrace and empower change. As each of these couples begin their own families, they will also be embracing the communities that they choose to live and grow in. At Crossland, we encourage our employees to get involved in the communities in which they live. My dad, Ivan Sr., was the ultimate community builder. You name it, he did it. From being Mayor to forming a little league team, to building a Lion’s Club Stand; he gave back in so many ways. Both Crossland Construction and our family have been brought up to do the same. Our goal is for Crossland to be celebrated as a community builder and for the next generation of not only family members, but also our employees to find ways of getting involved in the communities they are a part of. As we continue to grow in the upcoming years, I am sure we’ll be seeing yet another generation of family members join the Crossland Ream. The future looks bright and it is my hope that they get to experience all of the great communities that we have had the privilege of helping build throughout the years. A VENUE IN TUNE WITH AREA NEEDS WALMART AMP [ARKANSAS MUSIC PAVILION] Over the past fifteen years Crossland Construction has had the privilege of having a hands on roll in the construction and development of the well-known “Pinnacle Hills” area in Northwest Arkansas. During that time our company has been fortunate to have made many strong relationships and friendships with clients in the region. So when the exciting entertainment venue known as, The Walmart AMP was put into motion, Crossland was thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as Construction Manager for the landmark project.
Rogers, AR— The Walmart AMP is a state-of-the-art music pavilion in Rogers, Arkansas. The first of its kind in the region, the AMP was built to help further stimulate the arts and tourism in Northwest Arkansas. The amphitheater is made up of five major components: a large stage house, a VIP building, performance preparation and support areas, spectator viewing areas and guest concession/restroom facilities. The stage house is actually the largest in the area, soaring to an impressive 60-feet above the stage which is covered by a series of custom architectural canopies. The VIP building features everything performers and support staff need to prep for a big show; dressing rooms, dining and lounge areas. The venue offers 3,500 stadium seats for guests, along with a sloped lawn area with a capacity capable of hosting an additional 4,000 spectators. Throughout the venue there are four separate structures that offer concessions and restrooms for guest’s convenience.

crossfirst bank Wichita, KS— This impressive 16,000 square-foot, two-story building left no stone unturned in terms of quality. The facility features highend finishes and unique touches both inside and out. Constructed of structural steel framing and wrapped in a brick veneer, the building boasts an impressive façade with unique architectural elements such as the cast stone arches on both sides of the building. Above the arches are impressive circular windows custom designed to match the banks logo. The building’s interior is truly a design masterpiece—with imported natural stones, custom designed wall coverings and finishes throughout. The building includes an executive suite, retail banking space, as well as office space. It also has multiple conference rooms, a board room and Café for employees and guests. However, the building’s main focal point is located in the lobby, where a 17foot tall, crystal and fiber optic chandelier, designed in California, was carefully installed per the designers specifications, creating incredible impact in the space. Crossland Construction considers it an honor to be involved in this beautiful project that will benefit the community for years to come.

enbridge office Cushing, OK— Enbridge, an energy delivery firm that transports, generates and distributes energy throughout the United States and Canada, just settled into their attractive new office facility. The firm needed a functional and efficient space for their employees to operate from, and selected Crossland Construction to serve as General Contractor for the project. This 27,000 square-foot office building offers ample space and functionality for its user, including 60 private offices, a 2,000 square-foot meeting room and six “huddle rooms” or smaller conference rooms, two of which are complete with telepresence technology. A large break room also offers employees a designated area for lunches and office gatherings. Primarily composed of wood framing, this facility features a custom masonry veneer, standing seam metal roof and a cedar canopy at the front entrance. The cedar canopy, accented with radial glu-lam beams ties beautifully with the masonry exterior, giving the building a warm, classic aesthetic. During the course of this project, the project team was able to deliver a quality facility that will serve Enbridge and their employees for years to come. Crossland wishes the Enbridge

KANSAS CITY
SOUTHERN Kansas City, MO— Crossland has worked on various operating facilities throughout the years including hospitals, manufacturing plants, distribution centers, and various industrial projects. This project for Kansas City Southern however was something a little different—it was a fully functioning and operating train yard. Crossland was selected to carry out this Design/Build project for the nationwide transportation company, contracted to construct a metal canopy over the firms existing repair center. One unique challenge presented on this project was that the railroad only guaranteed a maximum of 6 hours of allowable work time each day—and those six hours were not continuous. In order to optimize this tight time frame the Crossland Steel Team assembled the majority of the roof structure on the ground. So when the work area was free of trains—which passed directly through the structure—the crew was able to erect large portions of the building in those short time slots. Our incredible superintendents, Tim Carson and Jake Doss were able to maximize the short windows of time allowed for construction and completed the 17,200 square-foot, pre-engineered metal building canopy ahead of schedule. By maintaining daily and at times hourly communication with the Kansas City Southern team, the project was completed 21 days ahead of schedule, with the building reaching final completion in just 81 days. This project was the first in Kansas City Southerns’ construction history that was completed ahead of schedule. As a result, Crossland Construction has been selected to construct additional work for the Railroad.

SHIP CENTER Irving, TX— Shipping or receiving a package through the postal system is simple for customers—just take your package to a local postal service carrier, pay a fee and send it on its way. How it gets from its starting point to its final destination sometimes on the opposite coast or country however, is not a simple feat. There is an incredible amount of logistics and coordination required to get a package through this complex system by truck, plane or trains. One key component is the racking system that the distribution center’s postal carriers use to sort and distribute these packages. Crossland has had the privilege of building multiple distribution centers for the international shipping giant, FedEx, over the years, and was honored to have the opportunity to work with the company once again.
The FedEx Ship Center is a LEED certified facility. Achieving this certification, when building a project of this industrial caliber can be a challenge, however our project team pulled together to attain this goal. This new FedEx ship center in Irving, Texas spans 112,000 square feet. The administrative portion of the building

To keep the premises and customer packages safe, a 2,000 square-foot standalone security building was also constructed. The building itself is composed primarily of tilt-wall panels that were engineered off site, then carefully placed with the use of a crane. Inside the warehouse portion of the building is an impressive array of tracks and conveyors snaking across the distribution floor for packages going to different

ENHANCING LIVES WITH
CONSTRUCTIVE SOLUTIONS 39 RAINBOW PHASE II DEVELOPMENT
Kansas City, KS — Crossland Construction had the privilege of teaming up with Lane4 Property Group, LLC on another exciting development project located at the intersection of 39th and Rainbow Boulevard in bustling Kansas City, Kansas. Last year Crossland completed a similar “sister building” across the street and was pleased to embark on this attractive new four-story building known as “39 Rainbow Phase II.” The 105,000 square-foot structure, composed of structural steel, masonry and pre-cast elements with an exterior limestone and EIFS façade is extremely functional, yet very attractive—an excellent addition to the urban landscape. The first floor of the facility offers a combination of retail, restaurant and medical space. The University of Kansas Medical Center’s Acute Rehabilitation Unit occupies the second floor. Skilled Healthcare Group is both the third and fourth floor tenant, offering patients post-acute rehabilitation recovery and skilled nursing areas. Atop the building is a rooftop terrace that offers tenants outdoor treatment areas for their patients. The building as a whole offers 96 patient beds and state-of-the-art medical equipment, all of which required an array of medical supply and technology feeds. Crossland served as Construction Manager on this project and oversaw it from pre-construction to completion. This large project required extensive planning and management, with vital medical inputs, and high-end equipment and finishes put into place throughout the building. As with any project of this caliber there were some obstacles overcome during the course of construction. Located in a high traffic area across from the region’s premier healthcare campuses, the location of this facility presented some challenges. One of the greatest challenges was adequate staging or “laydown” space in this high traffic urban area. It was also necessary that traffic continue to flow at all times to allow emergency vehicles in and out of the medical center driveways. 12
This required an extensive amount of planning on behalf of the project team, who strived to have material shipments arrive just before their installation and heavy equipment in motion during low traffic periods. Weather also presented a challenge during construction, with blizzards and above average snowfalls pounding the project throughout the season. With diligent planning and a focused project team, these obstacles were all overcome. Due to the size and complexity of this project each of the four levels was appointed a dedicated superintendent to manage progress on that particular floor. Those superintendents were then overseen by the overall project superintendent who managed the entire structure’s development.
39 Rainbow Phase I and II multi-use facilities have set a new standard and visually revitalized the area, creating a bright fresh and invaluable addition to the neighborhood. During the course of construction the building shell was not only constructed, but tenant infills were also taking place. There were three different design teams for the multiple tenants within the building, requiring our project team to perform at the highest capacity in terms of organization and implementation. The influence that 39 Rainbow Phase II will have on this area is abundant in terms of patient service, increased employment opportunities and overall community enrichment. This facility has the capacity to serve thousands of patients each year, many of which will seek rehabilitative care for up to one month after being discharged from the University of Kansas Hospital. This in tow creates numerous jobs for area medical personnel and staff. Finally, this project has revitalized this area, creating a bright, fresh and invaluable addition to the neighborhood!

crossland breaks ground on hunt towers 10-story Rogers, AR— Crossland Construction recently broke ground on the 10-story Hunt Tower Project in Rogers, Arkansas. This impressive facility includes 255,000 square-feet of office space as well as a large exterior GreenSpace patio and an exercise facility. The project is being built on a fast track schedule—the Crossland Team has just over one year to bring this project to completion! The project team has been pre-planning for months with key players on this project and by focusing on safety,

crossland’s oklahoma team REACHES MAJOR MILESTONES CROSSLAND TEAM HANGS 3RD WIDEST TILTWALL PANEL IN THE U.S. Crossland recently received national attention when it’s project team at the Warren Theatre Broken Arrow project installed the third widest tiltwall panel in the United States. This landmark installation required weeks of pre-planning, a skilled and prepared project team and two cranes operating in sync to pick and set the panels in place. With talented tilt wall crews and steel crews working in coordination these panels were carefully set, braced and installed meticulously. The Warren Theatre in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma has been called the largest, most luxurious theatre in the United States. Constructing a structure of this caliber is no simple task, however with Crossland’s experienced project team, it is achievable. Well done team!
CABELA’S COMING TO OKLAHOMA CITY Crossland Construction is currently preparing to embark on an impressive project this November for outdoor sportsman giant Cabela’s Incorporated, the World’s Foremost Outfitter®. The facility will include an indoor archery range, trademark displays including wildlife and impressive custom fish tanks; this project will be something to see when complete! “Our team is thrilled to have the opportunity to build for Cabela’s,” said Greg Smith, Project Manager. “Cabela’s is an incredible company that offers great hunting, fishing and outdoor products that our employees personally enjoy, all in a world class setting. We are looking forward to delivering this project to Cabela’s and fellow outdoors enthusiasts in our area!” 14
LEAVING A FOOTPRINT ON OUR COMMUNITIES JOPLIN, MO—RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE: COOKING FOR A CAUSE On the first Tuesday of each month volunteers from the Columbus office are setting aside their hardhats and tossing on a chef hat for the Ronald McDonald House of Joplin. care at nearby hospitals. Upon arriving at the Ronald McDonald House most families have no idea how long they will be there, or when the next time they will receive a homemade meal, so they really appreciate these meals.
NWA—BACKPACKS FOR THE FUTURE “Back to School” time is exciting for many children—new teachers, friends, shoes and school supplies often come with a promising new school year. However, not all children get to experience the same joys as their classmates do in preparation for the new year. The Crossland Rogers, AR office recently teamed up with the NWA Children’s Shelter for their “Backpacks for the Future” project, which offers backpacks filled with school supplies for area children in need. Together the office assembled 21 backpacks full of supplies to get area youngsters off to a great start. “Giving to the NWA Children’s Shelter is always rewarding. You don’t have to spend a lot and it doesn’t have to be fancy—the children in need appreciate all our gestures,” said Jana Galyean, CCC Administrative Assistant. Great job team!

Marta Brown (Crossland’s Marketing Manager) son, Jake Brown, is currently serving overseas in Kandahar, Afghanistan as an Air Mobility Liason Officer temporarily attached to the 1st Cavalry Division of the US Army. In a recent email, Jake mentioned to Marta how much he appreciated her gifts and supplies that she sends him and how exciting it made “mail day” for him. He told her that many of the troops there rarely ever received packages and that got the Team here at Crossland thinking. So in early September, the Crossland Columbus office began a new mission we called “Treats for Troops”. We gathered food and snacks, then shipped them out to the base in Kandahar. A week later Jake and his comrades received their “Treats for Troops” boxes and Jake said the excitement over them was unbelievable. In a matter of minutes everything was snatched out of the boxes and the group was “chowing down”. Crossland Construction is humbly honored to have had the opportunity to brighten these troops’ day in a small way. We would like to thank all of our military personnel members, both past and present, for their selfless service to our nation. We know that Freedom is never free, and we are grateful for their sacrifice. WICHITA, KS—GREAT STEPS FOR NF The Crossland Team in our Wichita office recently took a walk for a great cause. On August 9th the group participated in Wichita’s Great Steps for NF (Neurofibromatosis). Crossland employee, Chris Williams, has two children with NF and his wife served as organizer for this event. Crossland served as a corporate sponsor where all proceeds went directly to the NF Foundation. Many area employees and their families came out to support.

ROGERS, AR—LARRY’S RUN FOR CF Each year Daniel Becker, Superintendent at Crossland Heavy Contractors, organizes a run in memory of his brother Larry who lived 28 years while battling the effects of Cystic Fibrosis (CF). This event known as “Larry’s Run” consists of an 8 mile challenge or a traditional 5K run. Larry’s Run took place on Saturday, September 20th in Bentonville, Arkansas where several Crossland Construction and Crossland Heavy Contractors employees participated to show their support. All proceeds benefited the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

northwest medical plaza Rogers & Springdale, AR— Crossland Construction recently completed two strikingly attractive medical clinics in Northwest Arkansas, one clinic located in Rogers and one in Springdale. Community members now have options when choosing compassionate healthcare providers. These buildings utilize the same design and layout, both of which maximize efficiency and style. Constructed of primarily structural steel, the 16,000 square-foot buildings showcase custom brick veneer and 17-foot, floor to ceiling windows at the front of the building that allow ample natural light into the lobby. The lobby of both buildings features waiting rooms with wood laminate beams and 14-foot serpentine masonry walls with natural wood tongue and groove soffit. These details, along with the interior color scheme create a warm, relaxed environment that is very different from the standard medical clinic or facility. Beyond the waiting area are hallways that lead to fully- equipped nurse stations, patient care rooms, labs, x-ray rooms, doctor’s offices and kitchens.

harsh winter included record breaking amounts of precipitation—including ice, snow and rain— however the project team was pleased to deliver the project under budget to a happy owner.
pinamonti weLLNESS CENTER Pittsburg, KS— The Pinamonti Wellness Center is an impressive facility that offers multifaceted services to local community members. The Wellness Center offers restorative physical rehabilitation services to patients recovering from surgical procedures, physical traumas and more, as well as a fitness and physical wellness gym for everyone to enjoy. The first and only facility of its kind in the area, the Pinamonti Wellness Center truly sets the bar, and Crossland Construction was proud to serve on the Design/Build team for this project. The 27,000 square-foot facility has two levels of exercise and rehabilitation regions complete with a Starbucks coffee shop and café for guest’s convenience. The first floor features state-of-the-art workout equipment, a hydrotherapy and fitness pool, locker rooms, and a massage suite. The second floor offers yoga, Pilates and aerobics with a running track on the second level that looks out over the exercise center below. The sleek interiors of the building feature modern finishes coordinated to each room’s purpose. Competition grade rubberized track surface was custom poured on the upper running track, and red Trespa Panels were outfitted on the building’s exterior. Trespa Panels are manufactured in Europe and then imported to the United States. Upon their arrival they are shipped to a plant in St. Louis where they fit and finish them according to the buildings custom needs. These panels (shown in red on the building’s columns) are a major part of the building’s aesthetic and although they can be challenging to obtain due to long lead and production times, the finished product is well worth the wait. Crossland Heavy Contractors, headquartered out of the humble town of Columbus, Kansas recently received national attention by earning the 83rd rank on Engineering News Record’s (ENR) list of Top 200 Environmental Firms. This prestigious ranking is compiled each year by ENR, with rankings based on each firm’s total environmental revenue for the previous year. Crossland Heavy Contractors secured the 83rd rank after bringing in a whopping $95.5 million dollars last year alone—impressive considering the firm is less than 20 years old. Today the firm has 250 employees and three regional offices—Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Rogers, Arkansas and Kansas City, Missouri; all of which are overseen by the firm’s new, expanded office space in Columbus. Incorporated in 1993 as a small heavy contractor, Crossland then focused on infrastructure, but has more recently shifted towards some new opportunities in the water and energy sector. “Over the years the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has been increasing it’s water treatment and sanitation standards, requiring many communities and corporations to update their facilities,” stated Mark Sell, President of Crossland Heavy Contractors. “That being said they need a capable contractor to carry out these highly technical renovations, additions and new constructions, and our team is here to help.” Today the majority of Crossland Heavy Contractor’s work is focused on water treatment and waste water processing. The firm recently completed its largest project to date in nearby Broken Arrow, Oklahoma— a water treatment center with the largest public membrane treatment center in the state. Crossland Heavy Contractors is also experiencing considerable growth in the private commercial and oil industries. Mark Sell recently told us that although his team is elated to have reached this impressive milestone, they are still striving to grow and serve more communities. “Over the next few years we would like to continue to grow and diversify our projects—get back into more heavy infrastructure work while also reaching out to corporations and private companies. making an impact on communities BROKEN ARROW WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT Broken Arrow, OK— After a string of previous successful projects with Crossland Heavy Contractors (CHC), the City of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma awarded CHC with the Broken Arrow Water Supply Improvements Project in December of 2011. Since then the Crossland Heavy team has revolutionized the City’s water treatment supply system. The 28 month job was recently completed, coming in around $57 million dollars. The project included a major renovation to the existing facility increasing the city’s capacity to 20 million gallons of water per day (MGD). The water treatment plant uses a micro filtration membrane technology to filter its water. The filtration system filters anything larger than .1 microns from the water that passes through it, which greatly reduces the opportunity of viruses or bacteria to transfer through a water medium. This is the largest filtration system of it’s kind in the State of Oklahoma, making it a bar setting practice and facility. Crossland Heavy Contractors self-performed 65% of the contract value, including 12,000 CY of cast in place concrete, 10 miles of yard piping with the largest pipe diameters reaching 66 inches, and also installation of all process equipment. This project had an additional 30 different subcontractors assisting to bring this project to completion.
