A hotel that will exceed guests’ expectations

The Crossroads Arts District in Kansas City is one of the most concentrated gallery districts in the nation, and is surrounded by many restaurants and entertainment opportunities. The appeal of this destination makes it a perfect location for this new Hampton Inn project. This 132 unit hotel also includes a meeting room, board room and a large lobby and breakfast area, as well as a full Starbucks on the ground floor. The hotel is constructed of structural steel up to the 2nd floor and structural metal studs from the 2nd to the 7th floor. The exterior boasts a cast stone finish on the ground floor, and Dryvit’s New Brick on floors 2-7 with 18 balconies. The lobby finishes in this project are a higher end finish than a typical Hampton Inn, with custom light fixtures, furniture and wood trim. There were many challenges to building in such an urban area, the biggest being the limited space of the job site. Despite the many challenges, Crossland handed over the completed project to a pleased owner in March of 2019.

We were honored to work with Marnell Architecture, a firm from Las Vegas, on the Osage Casino and Hotel. With a resume that includes the Bellagio, Caesar’s Palace, and the Wynn in Las Vegas, as well as Harrah’s in Atlantic City, we knew we were working with the best of the best. And, when you work with the best of the best, you can expect a facility that outshines expectations.

The Osage Casino and Hotel project, like so many in 2018, began with one scope and morphed into something completely different. With a contract value of $120 million, bids came rolling in and we found ourselves $10 million under budget. The Owner took the surplus and ran with it, adding an event center, a pool and pool building a parking garage, and an expanded site package to the scope. The casino features 1,500 gaming machines. A Sports Bar and Grill includes a terrace that looks over the new 108,000 gallon pool and pool building. Also included is a Pizza Bar, three ballroom spaces, a cafe, an event center with seating for 1,800, a new, four story parking garage with a capacity of 1,040, and expanded parking lots to accommodate 1,941 vehicles.

Our story began in 1977 with our founder, the late Ivan Crossland, Sr., lovingly known as ‘Red Iron’. He started Crossland Construction out of the family garage with a wife and ten kids at home. His optimism, integrity, work ethic, and grit led him to success in every endeavor. His story became the embodiment of The American Dream, but more importantly, it continues to inspire us every day.

Today, we are humbled by our continued growth over the years. Still family-owned and operated, we have expanded to four companies, nine office locations, over 1500 dedicated employees, and rank in the top 100 construction firms in the nation. We continue to serve under Ivan Sr.’s belief that if you dream big, remain humble, and work hardgreat things are possible.
