Gritty the knit & with Rocky
As we sit here halfway through our fiscal year (July-August), all we hear are the bad things going on in the economy. There are a lot of awful things in the world, and we are hopeful some come to resolution soon. We also need to look at the positive things we have in front of us. We have the largest backlog in company history, most employees in company history, and more importantly, we work for the best company in the business. These are the things we need to keep in front of us and keep marching forward as we have always done.
As you know, we implemented 103 Strategic Plan three years ago. We had three main initiatives, Culture, Structure, and Self-Perform. We really dove into our preconstruction process, how to improve self-performance, and how to onboard, employee spotlight, pictures for social media, etc. These few items really exploded our presentation documents, spread sheets, and more importantly WINNING JOBS!!
Due to our growth, we are currently working on another office in Fort Worth that Derek Kloer

will be running. We are very excited about this opportunity and believe this will help foster our relationships with clients, control the market, and more importantly have more opportunities for everyone to grow. What we never want to lose is our culture, so we have started a new strategic plan, SP 2.0, with that in mind. How do we keep the same company as we were 10 years ago with so much growth? We will need everyone’s help to ensure this can be done as we DO NOT ever want to lose that. More to come on SP 2.0.
Getting back to 103, that is 10% growth, over 10 years, and be in the top 10 largest contractors in North Texas. We are currently putting the numbers together and are hopeful we are climbing the ladder to ensure being a Top 10 Contractor in our market. This is only possible for everyone working tirelessly to finish these jobs on time and getting the repeat work as we always talk about. We can’t thank you enough for everyone dedication to make this happen.
As we go into 2023, Texas has more backlog than ever before, and this work goes into 2025. Let’s keep the motivation to keep growing, learning, and finishing these projects on time and the future looks better than ever!!
Rocky Hussman, VP of Texas RegionOpening the Doors to Success: Introducing Our New Fort Worth Office
with Crossland through the internship program. He’s worked his way up the ranks as a Senior Project Manager in the Prosper office before this new promotion.
“I want to thank the countless people that I have had the pleasure of working beside over all these years that helped shaped my career. I couldn’t imagine a better place to call home than here at Crossland! I get to come to work with a great group of friends that just happen to be the best in the business! I’m excited to see the Texas region continue it’s growth and just glad to play a role in it!”, stated Kloer.
Over the past few years, the Texas Division has grown at an unprecedented rate. As a result of this growth, we are proud to announce that we are opening a second Texas office in Fort Worth!
Here’s the 411 on the 817!
After careful consideration and research, opening an office in Fort Worth is a necessary step for the future of our Texas Division. “We had a $300M backlog that was in the Ft. Worth area alone, and this was at the forefront of our thoughts when starting our Strategic Plan.” Rocky Hussman, Prosper DM said. “We focused on growth in Prosper; we prioritized strong preconstruction and retaining good people - and from doing that, we grew another office.”
The Texas Office is excited - and that excitement is only enhanced by the announcement of the office’s newest Division Manager - Derek Kloer (DK). DK has spent his entire 15+ year career with Crossland. As Columbus, KS native, he went to Pittsburg State University and started

“As a division, we focused on empowering people and giving opportunities to those that have put in the time, effort, and pain to grow Prosper.” Hussman said. “When you look at those traits along with who embodies our core values, it was DK all day!”
There will be no Texas Silos - they’ll operate through continued shared resources of our area superintendent, superintendents, preconstruction, and self-perform crews. This new office will allow the Texas Division to continue growing - together as One Big Texas Family.
The 817 Grinders
Please join us in celebrating the hard work of all those in the Prosper office who have led to this growth, especially DK and his team, who will be making the move with him to Fort Worth. Upward and Onward.
Hussman said he knows DK is ready for this new challenge and is confident this move will change the game for the Crossland Texas family. “Having more offices in Texas and having our hands in more places gives us more opportunity to grow.”

Rock S ar
Mike Major has been a part of the Crossland family for nearly nine years, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. While finishing college, he had other career opportunities, but once he got to Crossland, he knew he had found his home.
Mike’s journey began with a gate guard job; from there, he worked on the concrete crew with Jeff Machado and Brandon Smith. But it didn’t take long for his hard work and ambition to bump him to running the crew. He excelled even further, quickly rising through the Crossland ranks after becoming a Field Engineer and picking up and moving to Texas in 2016. He was then promoted to Assistant Project Manager and again to Project Manager. Today, Mike is a Senior Project Manager, ready to take on another challenge working in Crossland’s latest office addition, Fort Worth. According to Derek Kloer, Fort Worth DM, Mike is great at multitasking and has a “get it done” attitude that has made him instrumental in the success of Crossland’s projects.
Derek stressed he’s happy to have a person like Mike join him in the opening of the Fort Worth division.
When asked about the secret to his success, Mike credits his mentorship. Ben Harris and Mike Farrington put him on the right path early on in his career, and the continued guidance from Derek, Rocky, Bunner, and many others helped shape him further.

Bunner, who also works closely with Mike, calls him the smartest person he knows. Mike brings a unique perspective to the team, always posing new ideas that challenge the team and force them to think outside the box. When we asked Mike if there is a piece of advice that he carries with him, he said, “Tough times don’t last. Tough people do,” it’s something his college football coach once told him, and it just stuck.
When Mike isn’t hard at work, he channels his inner rockstar in a two-man band with co-worker Jacob Williams, The Red Iron Ramblers. You may have heard of them. Well, Mike, you’re a true Rockstar in our eyes. You’ve played a huge role in the growth of our Prosper Division, and we know you’ll do amazing things in Fort Worth. We look forward to what’s to come. Thanks for being you, keeping our pencils sharp, and helping with the success of Texas!

CONTROLLED CHAOS
When asked about his favorite part of the job, Blake responded with a chuckle, “Controlled Chaos.”
He thrives in the fast pace and busy nature of managing construction sites - hectic schedules and tight deadlines and making sure everything comes out successful is what he loves most. His goal? To always make sure everyone’s happy - especially clients and Crossland, of course, and hopefully make everyone some money along the way. However, the most rewarding part about his job is “finishing strong,” he says. Those that know him describe him as determined and resilient. Mike Major had this to say about Blake, “He’s a Rock Star– if you have Blake on a job, you really don’t have to worry about anything. He can do anything, and he’s an incredible person to boot. I wish I could have him on every job!” All of these qualities, coupled with his great work ethic, make Blake truly deserving of his Rockstar status!
Blake’s dedication to his job is evident in his actions. A perfect example of this is a story shared by Ben Harris while visiting Blake when he was on the Big Shot Project in Bryan, TX.

“When I reached the job site, Blake wasn’t in the trailer. After walking the site, I spotted him with toolbelt in tow and running a saw - he had taken it upon himself to install blocking for temporary pass-through windows to prepare the project for its soft opening. The client had made an eleventh-hour change that could have derailed the opening, but instead of throwing his hands up, Blake jumped in and figured out a solution to keep the project on track.”
This is just one of many examples of Blake’s can-do attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done right. When we asked Blake if he has a favorite saying, he laughed and said, “It’s sunshine until it’s not.” He states, “I get lots of calls when there’s rain in the forecast, and I always tell ‘em,’ until you see raindrops, we’ll be working.” We think it’s safe to say Blake’s projects probably don’t see many rain days.
When Blake isn’t hard at work, he enjoys spending time with his family, helping his brother on the farm, getting out to hunt and fish, and working on his classic truck when he can. Blake, Crossland is grateful for your hard work and dedication, and we appreciate all that you do for our team and our clients. Keep up the good work, and keep controlling that chaos.

Total Square Footage
65,000
Crossland is proud to be the selected contractor for Knauf Insultation’s new, state-of-the-art production facility in McGregor, TX.
The new facility is over 650,000 SF and will enable Knauf to deliver more insulation in some of the largest growth markets in the country. In addition to expanding Knauf’s footprint, it’s also breaking records for Crossland as well.
Last summer, Knauf broke our record for largest amount billed to one client in a month – coming in at over $12.4 million.
Construction began last fall and is set to complete in October of this year with the new greenfield insulation plant going operational by the end of the year.

“From the first time our Crossland family met the Knauf family, a mutual respect formed,” Rocky said. “Having built many large and complex projects in Texas, I am confident that our team will work tirelessly to construct a place in the McGregor Industrial Park that will meet the production needs of Knauf and stand as a compliment to the beautiful landscape of Central Texas.”

Shout out to the entire project team – this is sure to be a great project and the beginning of an even greater partnership.

West Plano Medical Village

51,640 SF Plano, TX

The new $8.6M West Plano Medical Village offers the local community more choices and convenient access to the medical care they need. This new addition to the area serves as a one- stop shop for patients as they offer a variety of services in one building including pediatrics, dermatology, family practice, and much more.
The 50,000 SF, two-story office building required innovation from Crossland in order to shorten lead times and finish the project on time and within budget. The exterior shell was constructed using tilt walls, wide flange beams, and decking. For both practicality and design, there are sunshades over the outside windows and a multicolored, natural sticky stone façade. One notable exterior feature for both design and efficiency is the drivethru, constructed with aluminum, which will make drop off and pick up more efficient for patients. Looking inside, Crossland was responsible for the construction of two bathrooms, and the main staircase which required a small amount of mill work.
This project began construction in August 2021, and the crew faced two main challenges with long lead times and their switchgear. Despite these obstacles, Crossland worked well with the other contractors, architect, and client. This was their first time working locally in Texas with Corgan Architecture and Design Firm and the client, Harrod Healthcare. Upon completion of the project, Tammy Testa, Vice President of Corgan Architecture and Design Firm, said they look forward to working with Crossland again.
“Harrod Plano Medical building was a success because the Crossland Construction team reflected both a responsive and collaborative attitude throughout the course of the project,” Testa said. “From project start to finish, Crossland set a fast-moving pace for the team and provided effective communication with all stakeholders.”
