Circular

Welcome to the 8th edition of CRJ’s circular magazine, detailing our latest news and developments.
On behalf of the CRJ team, we hope that 2024 has proved fruitful thus far, and we wish you every good fortune that this may continue. We are very grateful for your continued support and despite the global challenges, uncertainties and upheavals, CRJ has sustained encouraging growth that we are very thankful for.
We were thrilled to receive the Jenz Dealer of The Year Award for 2023 at the Jenz Dealer Conference in March 2024. This recognition celebrates the dedication of our entire team during our inaugural year as the Jenz Dealer for the UK & Ireland. We extend special gratitude to our customers, both those embarking on a new partnership with CRJ and those beginning a new journey with Jenz.
In our last edition, we mentioned about the growth in demand for the Haas Hybrid machine. I am delighted to share that this growth is still in an upward trend and is paralleled with the continued increase in demand for the Haas Static Electric Machinery. These two types of machines easily facilitate the change from diesel to electric operated shredding. This edition of Circular includes a case study on Billy Bowie Special Project’s, who purchased a HAAS Tyron 2000 E-XL 2.0 static electric from us in 2022. This was the first Haas Static Electric Shredder that we sold into a General Waste Application in the UK, having sold over 50 mobile units into the same application.
It is a nod to the huge work that has been undertaken by our team and our suppliers that we picked up the Sustainability Today award for the ‘Waste, Recycling and Forestry Equipment Company of the year 2024’. We are delighted to receive this accolade and it underlies all the work that has been done to develop our machinery so that CRJ can continue to be Greener Today.
We have placed a large focus on improving our service delivery, by increasing our HGV Fleet with new cutting-edge Volvo Trucks. Furthermore, we have invested in our spare parts warehouse. Our Cheshire site now holds an expansive stock of spare
parts, in excess of £2.5M for all hire and purchased equipment. Allowing delivery within 24hours further reinforces our dedication to providing a premium service to all our clients.
Recently, our team travelled to ScotPlant, Scotland’s largest construction equipment exhibition. On the stand we had a Haas 2000XL 2.0 shredder, equipped with an Air Spectrum Suppression System, designed, tested, and trialled on material containing POP’s. We also had a Pronar MPB 20.55gh Trommel on the stand with an MMAir lights removal system on the oversize. This was our first show in 2024, as we welcome Ifat in May, Hillhead in June, and APF in September.
In conclusion, over the past six months, we’ve warmly welcomed 24 new recruits across all divisions of our company. We extend our best wishes for their smooth transition into their new roles and wish them many years of fulfilling employment and happiness at CRJ.
I hope that you enjoy this edition of Circular and as always, we offer our huge appreciation to our staff, customers, and suppliers, who are an integral part of CRJ’s objective of being the best provider of material processing and recycling equipment in the UK.

Having successfully applied for and secured a waste management contract, the need for a static shredder became apparent. In response to this requirement, Willie Patterson reached out to CRJ. Following thorough discussions around their operations and processes, a consensus was reached that the HAAS Tyron 2000 E-XL 2.0 static electric option perfectly aligned with their needs.
Within the proposal, a static solution complete with detailed drawings was presented to the decision makers at Billy Bowie. The shredder was to be installed within their processing building, seamlessly integrating into their existing process operations and machinery.

CRJ Services Receives Renewed
CRJ Services have steadily continued to grow and evolve as a company since 1999. As a specialist waste, recycling and forestry equipment solutions provider, our people are what makes CRJ successful. We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded silver accreditation against the Investors in People (IIP) in recognition of our commitment to high performance through excellent people management.
On the 22nd-23rd April 2024, CRJ Services returned to Scotplant, meeting customers old and new. Visitors had the chance to view the highly rated HAAS Tyron 2000XL, Pronar MPB 20.55gh and more.
Scotland is a key market for CRJ Services, with long established relationships with many recycling and waste management companies across the country.
Since welcoming Pronar machines to our portfolio in 2023, we took the chance to showcase one of our Pronar Trommels with the MM Air attachment. While the PRONAR MPB 20.55gh mobile drum screen effectively sorts components of different sizes, the MM Air minimises or eliminates the need for manual sorting, enhancing the quality of processed materials. In short, by combining the MM Air with the Pronar Trommel, our solution expedites the work process and enhances profitability.
On the right of our stand, we had the ever popular HAAS Tyron 2000XL slow-speed shredder on show, which generated a lot of interest from visitors looking to either hire or purchase the machine.
In collaboration with Air Spectrum, CRJ Services has looked at a novel dust suppression method when shredding toxic waste that may contain POPs. Tailor-made
for each HAAS machine, the Air Spectrum Jetstream, (shown on our stand) are built bespoke to each HAAS unit and are compatible with the HAAS static and mobile shredder range.
Companies seeking solutions to combat Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP’s ) when shredding waste, has prompted CRJ to search for an innovative, pro-active approach.
Aside from the mobile equipment on show, we also had a range of OEM spare and wear parts, on display. It was great to have constructive conversations with new and existing customers on how we can further support them with their parts requirements for some of the industry’s leading equipment.
We would like to thank everyone who came to see us. If you would like more information on any of the machines, accessories or parts that were on show at Scotplant, please contact enquiries@crjservices.co.uk.

The latest CRJ Report has found that recycling in England is at a 10 year low. Why is less household waste being recycled, and will the ‘Simpler Recycling Plan’ be enough to reverse the trend?
England faces a recycling crisis as rates hit a 10-year low, raising concerns about sustainability. The CRJ Waste Index Report pinpointed confusion among residents about what can be recycled, compounded by inconsistent practices across regions.
To address this, the government introduced the Simpler Recycling plan, aiming for uniform recycling collections nationwide. However, recent data from Defra shows a worrying decline in household recycling, raising doubts about the plan’s
Despite efforts, household recycling rates in England have plateaued at around 42% to 44% since 2011. This suggests a potential limit to the country’s
On a positive note, English households are generating less waste overall. Although recycling rates have dropped, there’s been a decrease in landfill-bound waste, hinting at shifts in consumer behaviour and environmental consciousness.
Recycling performance varies widely across regions, with some areas excelling while others struggle. While affluent places like South Oxfordshire boast rates over 60%, London faces challenges with lower rates and higher incineration levels. The Promise and Challenges of Simpler Recycling
The Simpler Recycling plan aims to standardise practices and boost recycling nationwide. However, funding constraints and concerns about affordability pose obstacles. Changing consumer behaviour also requires education and sustained commitment.
As England gears up for Simpler Recycling, local authorities must navigate funding uncertainties and prioritise long-term sustainability. CRJ Services offers support with recycling solutions, ready to advance the nation’s recycling agenda with a range of equipment and partnerships.
Over the last 24 months, CRJ has seen a dramatic decrease in workplace accident absence and lost days due to the increase in accident reporting across the board.
Since the arrival of our QSHE (Quality, Safety, Health, and Environment) Compliance Manager Simon Heywood, our commitment to enhancing health and safety at CRJ has reached new heights, particularly in the realm of reporting.
This concerted effort has not only led to a surge in accident reporting—encouraging everyone to report incidents, no matter how minor—but has also yielded a remarkable outcome: a significant drop in workplace accident absence and lost days.
In addition to the near miss reporting the emphasis on internal auditing which enabled CRJ Services to gain ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 accreditations in 2022 has vastly improved the closure of nonconformances.
CRJ is looking to expand on certain areas to ensure we maintain the highest possible level of health and safety, including psychosocial well-being and developing our environmental social governance goals to name a few.
We are delighted to receive the Waste, Recycling & Forestry Equipment Company of the Year from Sustainability Today. We have worked really hard to turn CRJ into the fantastic specialist business it is today. Going forward, both short and long term, we believe there’s a lot of areas of growth that we can move into across additional products and untapped geographical areas, so watch this space!
