These accreditations further evidence our commitment to safe and compliant work processes, continuous development, and our overarching dedication to protecting the environment.
Damian was a very well respected and treasured member of the CRJ team, and the outpouring of love and support that we have received from people who knew Damian is a testament to the fantastic person that he was. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Damian’s family and friends as we all try to come to terms with his passing.
In July, CRJ Services became accredited in three ISO standards: ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety). I would like to congratulate all of our team on these new certifications as this has been the culmination of a lot of hard work across all departments.
Within this edition of Circular, you will find a tribute to Damian reflecting on his success both in his career with CRJ Services and on the hurling field, representing his beloved Dungannon Eoghan Ruadh Hurling Club and the Tyrone County Hurling Team.
As we all continue to face difficult trading conditions as a result of the war in Ukraine, CRJ Services is well positioned to assist our customers with our industry leading machinery hire service. Many of our customers are experiencing long lead times on the delivery of new machinery, which is where our hire fleet of over 110 units can bridge the gap. If you are having trouble sourcing new machinery, speak to our hire desk team to see how we can assist you.

to supply not only the first chipper sold by CRJ Services, but also the first of the new JENZ HEM841Z into the UK market. It also seems fitting to be supplying this machine to one of the most loyal JENZ customers in J&S Vicary. It has been a pleasure to deal with Chris and his team, and I thank them for their business.”
Following the acquisition of the JENZ dealership earlier this year, CRJ Services is thrilled to have delivered our first JENZ chipper into the UK market to a long standing customer - J&S Vicary Agricultural & Forestry Contractors.

“We have used JENZ chippers and high-speed shredders for many years now. I am always impressed with the quality of the machinery, and the material being produced. Our new, larger HEM841Z chipper allows us to process greater volumes of material, compared to our previous models. This was also our first time dealing with CRJ Services since they took over the JENZ dealership, and I have been impressed with the communication and support we have received from them, in particular Mike and Richard.”
Chris Vicary, Director at J&S Vicary, is a long standing JENZ customer, having operated JENZ chippers and high-speed shredders in their machinery fleet for many years. Before their recent purchase, J&S Vicary used a JENZ HEM593Z PTO for their chipping service, and a JENZ BA725DL high-speed shredder for the shredding of roots, stumps, and brash material.
Aside from the quality of the wood chip being produced, another key factor in J&S Vicary’s service is the speed in which they can process the material, which is determined by the quality and capacity of the chipping machinery being used.
Many of J&S Vicary’s customers send their chipped and shredded material as fuel to large scale biomass energy plants or use their material in their own biomass boilers. As there are varying grades of biomass fuel, the quality of the finished material delivered by J&S Vicary is of paramount importance, as it will determine the value their customers can receive for their biomass material.
At the time of purchase, J&S Vicary’s JENZ HEM593Z was the largest PTO chipper in the JENZ range, delivering output of approximately 270 m3/h. As Chris is always keen to be running the best equipment available, when the announcement of the larger HEM841Z came, he decided it was time for an upgrade.

&S Vicary is a Yorkshire based family run business, who provide a wide range of agricultural and forestry services throughout the UK. They specialise in large scale wood chipping, heavy duty mulching and the supply of quality wood chip and wood fuels.

The new HEM841Z boasts a larger infeed area, measuring 1400mm wide x 820mm high - a 20% increase in infeed area from the HEM593Z. This larger infeed size results in an approximately 37% increase in output capacity, up to 370m3/h.

BruceENGINEERINGEngineering
Ltd is an aggregate washing plant manufacture founded in 1958 in County Tyrone, Ireland. With over 60 years experience delivering market leading, intelligent washing solutions, Bruce Engineering supplies machinery into the quarrying, recycling, and aggregate sectors.
Bruce offers a complete turn-key solution for bespoke static wash plants. Utilising their range of modular equipment, Bruce is able to build custom washing plants to suit all operational requirements. These plants typically include: feeding, washing, screening, trash removal, sand-washing, and stockpiling of 3 sized aggregate products and two cleaned sand products. The various stages can be adjusted with numerous configurations, enabling the production of aggregate and sand products to tight specifications.
The advanced technology utilised by Bruce Engineering allows end users to accurately and efficiently clean, screen and stockpile sized aggregate and sand products that can be sold back into the construction and infrastructure industries.
ruce Engineering offers bespoke turnkey wash plants as well as a range of compact modular units that can be combined to suit specific operational requirements, or to integrate into an existing process.

Bruce Wash Pod
The Bruce Wash Pod is the only fully containerised modular washing system on the market, boasting the smallest working footprint of any complete wash plant. The Wash Pod consists of a dual shaft logwasher which scrubs material as it enters the pod. The cleaned material is then fed over a trash screen where organic and light material is ejected. The remaining aggregate is fed onto a washing screen that further cleans and sizes the material ready for stockpiling. Sand is collected from the washing screen into a ‘sand tank’, the material is then fed into the hydro cyclone, which further cleans the sand and begins the water removal. Sand leaving the cyclone is fed onto a dewatering screen, which removes the remaining water from the sand, and produces a sand product with a maximum 14% moisture content.

The Bruce Water Bath BWB is a flotation system which utilises water to separate heavy from light material. The uniquely low infeed height of the BWB120 allows for the direct feeding of material from other processing equipment, such as a trommel or screener. The unit can be adjusted to suit the feed material via its variable speed brush conveyor and inclined chevron conveyor. To combat unwanted settlement in the water tank, the BWB comes equipped with an agitating pump system and silt screw discharge assembly. To maximize efficiency, the water bath is fitted with a dual filter that allows clean water to recirculate.

What is your favourite aspect of your role at CRJ?
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, and watching my fair share of cricket. I enjoy following my county team, Lancashire, and particularly like watching the IPL 20/20 competition.
What is your favourite machine to work on?
The biggest change I have seen at CRJ Services is the size of the hire fleet. When I started back in 2012, I think we had around 20 machines. We now have well over 100 machines and it’s still growing!
CIRCULAR | ISSUE 4 | 20228
My favourite aspect of my role is the fact that you have to think for yourself, and take the initiative to plan and organise my workload to fit in with the schedule of our other departments.
What passions do you have outside of work?
Being one of our longest serving team members, Ben holds a wealth of knowledge of our machinery and processes and embodies our value of ‘One Team’ as he is always willing to help out his colleagues. We caught up with Ben to discuss his experiences at CRJ Services and learn a bit more about the man himself.

In this edition of our ‘Employee Showcase’, we highlight Ben Ravenscroft who is the Yard Supervisor here at CRJ Services.
en has been part of Team CRJ for over 10 years, having started with us in 2012 as our Yard Operative. Ben plays a key role in the organisation and maintenance of our busy yard at Brook House Farm, as well as washing and preparing incoming machinery for the workshop teams.
I also enjoy my match fishing competitions, with my biggest competition fish landed to date weighing 190lb.
I applied to join CRJ Services for a five-month period as temporary cover. I enjoyed the role and people I was working with, and was pleased to be offered a permanent role and have now been with CRJ for over 10 years.
As our fleet of machinery continues to grow, it has been necessary for CRJ Services to expand our yard team, which has seen Ben progress from his role as a Yard Operative to Yard Supervisor. This has involved Ben embarking on a management development programme - ‘Managing for the first time’, which will see him develop his skills as a manager, to effectively manage the growing yard team.
What do you consider the biggest change you have seen in your time at CRJ?

My favourite machine would have to be our Doppstadt trommel screeners. We have over 50 of these in our hire fleet, and I have been working with these machine since the day I started, so know them very well.
Why did you want join CRJ Services?
We have a great team of people across all of our departments, who make it an excellent place to work. I also have a good work life balance, which allows me to spend time with my family, with hours that suit my personal commitments.
What three words would you pick to describe CRJ Services?
Denzel Washington. Legend.
“He has been at CRJ now for over 10 years and is a truly well-respected colleague. His dedication and proactive work ethic is truly valued.”
“Ben is a real asset to our company. He is organised and always willing to go the extra mile to help out. Ben is a joy to work with, always laughing and puts a smile on everyone’s face.”

What are the main factors in the longevity of your career with CRJ?

There are a few factors that have played a part in the longevity of my career with CRJ, the main one being loyalty, from both sides. CRJ take real care of their staff, and as long as you hold up your end of the deal, they are very accommodating.

John F Hunt Regeneration has been appointed as the primary contractor for the remediation of the former Imperial Tobacco factory in Nottingham, which was built on an old landfill site. To process the landfill material, John F Hunt hired four machines from CRJ Services to segregate the material into various fractions. The remaining cleaned material could then be retained to be used in the restoration of the site.

Raw landfill material is to be loaded into a McCloskey R155 deck screener, which is fitted with a set of 75mm finger decks. The R155 then screens the material, producing an oversize product and a fine material of sub 75mm, which is fed into a Doppstadt SM518 trommel screener.
ohn F Hunt Group is a group of 18 companies specialising in engineering and plant hire services within the construction industry. One of their divisions is land remediation, and the cleansing and stabilisation of contaminated land.
As the primary contractor for the remediation of the landfill site, John F Hunt Regeneration required a number of material processing machines from CRJ Services in order to accurately and efficiently segregate the landfill material into various fractions, such as plastic, wood and tyres. The remaining cleaned material can then be retained on site for use in the next phase of the development.

DAMIAN PICTURED WITH THE MATPRO MACHINERY TEAM AT SCOTPLANT 2018

In February 2017, two months after Matpro merged with CRJ Services, Damian moved to CRJ/ Matpro Head Quarters in Cheshire and based himself in Liverpool. He continued his After Sales role and gained further knowledge and experience in machinery and also in the range of machines that CRJ had in their comprehensive hire fleet. He was also the vital office-based link between Matpro and his new surroundings and
and customers and we continue to think and pray for his family, friends, and teammates.
Damian began his career with Ben McQuaid at Matpro Machinery in July 2016. Initially earmarked for a sales job, Damian took up his first role as Matpro’s After Sales Manager. It was important to Damian that he was not ill prepared to hit the road as a salesman in a new and unique industry and it was agreed that to gain valuable knowledge, the after sales role would well equip him for his destined role and career. It was also critical that the job would not conflict with Damian’s passion for hurling, and it was agreed that he would fly to Glasgow on a Monday morning and return to Dungannon on Friday mornings, to accommodate his sporting commitment.

CIRCULAR | ISSUE 4 | 202212
Damian quickly settled into Matpro and his part time home and in addition to his After Sales role, committed himself to every function of Matpro, organising spare parts, dealing with suppliers, meeting customers, and assisting hugely on the machinery sales of the company. This gave him huge knowledge and understanding of both the Scottish market and the brands that Matpro represented.

On Friday 17th June, CRJ Services lost one of its most treasured and respected colleagues, Damian Casey.
Damian’s kind nature and sense of humour, combined with his knowledge and experience, quickly saw him establish himself as one of CRJ Services greatest assets and top salesmen.
he forged excellent working relationships and friendships with his new colleagues and his expanding customer base.
Whilst in Liverpool, Damian accustomed himself to the city life throughout the week and continued to fly home to Ireland every Friday for his hurling, returning every Monday morning for work.
Away from his work, Damian was regarded as the finest hurler his county, Tyrone, had ever produced with a scoring record that has never been seen before. In his final match on 21st May 2022, he scored 14 points in the Nickey Rackard final in Croke Park. This was only the second time Tyrone have won this competition, the first being in 2014, when a 20-year-old Damian Casey captained them to the same feat.
CRJSERVICES.CO.UK 13
Damian picked up where he left off in Scotland and worked hard to establish himself in Ireland and Northeast England, securing machinery sales, hires and spare parts sales throughout his nominated regions. When Damian started with Matpro in 2016, there were two HAAS shredders in Scotland and he was instrumental in getting this figure up to nearly 20; where it sits today. He recently sold the first HAAS 2000XL electric static shredder in the UK to Billy Bowie Special Projects in Kilmarnock. Last year, he sold the first 6/6-4 (a courser shred to enable product to be picked after) configured HAAS shredder to Kemp Waste in Halifax. He also introduced the first two HAAS Shredders to Southern Ireland, to Country Clean, Cork and O’Toole Composting, Carlow. He covered every part of his geographically huge regions, and he won many hires and sales from a variety of customer types, from small privately owned waste companies to local authorities and Blue Chips.
We will always remember Damian, our much-loved colleague and friend, his cheeky, infectious smile, the laughter, and the craic. Those fond memories will live long in our hearts, never to be forgotten.
The timefeelingsbalanceexecutingwasinsightarticlefollowinggivesanonwhatinvolvedinthisandhisatthetowardsit.
May he rest in peace.
In May 2018, it was agreed that Damian was ready to get out on the road as an Area Sales Manager. It was also agreed that Damian would be based in Dungannon, taking Ireland, Scotland and Northeast England as his sales areas and he would commute back and forward to the UK, reversely to previous. An office was set up in Dungannon Enterprise Centre and he was pleased that he could commit himself fully to the hurling training sessions that he had to miss during the week, whilst commuting from the UK to Ireland.
