LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT LEADERSHIP TEAM Jeb Myers President

Greetings!

While 2020-21 posed many challenges, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School faced these challenges with renewed determination and purpose for our mission— to empower students from economically challenged families to graduate high school prepared to persist in college and flourish in life. To fund unexpected costs for COVID-19 safety measures, provide technology devices to support distance learning, and supplement lost revenue from our Corporate Work Study Program during the pandemic, we launched a $7 million campaign called the Resilience Fund. Our school community will be stronger in the “new normal” thanks to the increased commitments and supports of our generous benefactors and corporate sponsors.

Cristo Rey Jesuit is continually improving our curriculum and programs to offer the best education for our students to prepare them for future success. The patience, creativity and perseverance demonstrated by our amazing students, families, faculty and staff during this unprecedented time led to moments of light and pride this past year, including: • 99% of students completing the necessary coursework to demonstrate their standards; • 100% of students in grades 10–12 gaining professional work experience in-person or remotely with 101 of our Corporate Partners, and students in grade nine through a partnership with Accenture; • Our College Success team being recognized by the Minnesota Independent Schools Forum (MISF) for Program of the Year, recognizing the specific accomplishment of 100% college acceptance for 11 consecutive years.

• Completing construction on the Ken Melrose Technology Lab, representing a $1.7 investment in our students’ preparation for academics and the workforce in a post-COVID, and highly technical world.

Your support allows us to stay focused on delivering a sustainable, high-caliber college preparatory education and workplace experience for every student. You make it possible for 500 students and 874 graduates to become college ready, career prepared, and ready to succeed in today’s changing world. Thank you.

Our Corporate Partners Students earn half the cost of their education through our Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP), while also being exposed to a corporate work environment and positive influences of supervising professionals. In exchange, employers that participate in CWSP receive high quality, cost-effective workers and get to play an active role in students’ future success.

2021: A year of outstanding scholars The 11th Annual Commencement of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School took place in the gymnasium on Saturday, June 12. One hundred and twelve seniors received their diplomas and were congratulated by President Myers, Board of Trustees Chairman Joe Boone, Principal Erin Healy and Corporate Work Study Director Kesiah Kolbow.

Maria Pliego ’21 addresses the Class of 2021 at their graduation ceremony.

These outstanding scholars persevered through academics and Corporate Work Study placements during a pandemic.

They will attend 32 different colleges and universities across the United States, as well as commitments to the US Air Force, Marines, and National Guard.

The Class of 2021 includes external scholarships earned through Act Six, Burger King Foundation, Dell Foundation, Deloitte Foundation, Horatio Alger Association, Page Grant Foundation, and Wallin Educational Partners.

Seniors Cristina Vasquez-Huix and Jocelyn Casarez Chacon are the first students in Cristo Rey history to enroll at Johns Hopkins University and New York University.

We are proud of their accomplishments and grateful for their contributions to our school. Congratulations!

“We have been the light in the darkest year. After a year of remote learning, social distancing, racial unrest and violence in our Minneapolis community, we are the light coming through. Our class has spoken against racial injustice, advocated for women’s rights, protested in the streets and have been vessels for change in our community, while continuously giving our all to our education in a year we could have lost ourselves in the darkness and in hardship.

Jericho Sims ‘17 Selected 58th Overall in NBA Draft by New York Knicks Jericho Sims ’17 makes history for Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in being the 58th pick for the New York Knicks in the 2021 NBA Draft. He will be the first alumni of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School to become a professional athlete and will be the first NBA player from the national Cristo Rey Network.

Sims once dominated the high school basketball court for Cristo Rey before playing for the University of Texas as an interior defender. He averaged more than 9 points and 7 rebounds a game in the 2020-21 season and led the Texas Longhorns to their first Big 12 9

Deloitte Foundation Awards Grant for College Scholarships This past spring, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School received a grant from the Deloitte Foundation to provide critical college scholarship funds to graduating seniors in the Class of 2021.

Isiah Charleston, Melissa Sanchez, Cristina Vasquez-Huix and Narely Baron were selected as Deloitte Foundation Scholars, all of whom were admitted to college and intend to pursue majors in accounting, computer science, and/ or data analytics. In addition to demonstrating financial need, Deloitte Foundation Scholars must demonstrate academic and leadership excellence.

“In its mission to drive initiatives that help prepare the next generation of diverse business leaders, the Deloitte Foundation is proud to award these scholarships to Cristo Rey high school students,” remarked Janet Foutty, executive chair of the board, Deloitte US and chair, Deloitte Foundation. “During the pandemic, the disruption to education has been dramatic, particularly for racially and ethnically diverse communities. We are excited to help propel these high-performing students on their journeys from high school, to college and career success.”
