INSIDE THE SCHOOL Deloitte Foundation Innovation Lab The new campus will feature a state-of-the-art engineering lab made possible by a donation from the Deloitte Foundation and Base 11, a non-profit STEM workforce development and entrepreneur accelerator. The Deloitte Foundation Innovation lab will expand the pilot mini-lab at our current location, which is utilized for the project-based learning Engineering course. Developed by Base 11 and the Deloitte Foundation, this STEM Accelerator program is designed to provide experiential learning to foster student interest
in STEM fields. Research shows that experiential or projectbased learning helps retain students in challenging math and science courses that are the gateway to STEM careers. Cristo Rey Philadelphia successfully piloted the STEM Accelerator program in 2017 and will continue this program at 1717 W. Allegheny Ave. at a fully equipped, new lab with rapid proto-typing equipment. This new space will empower and ignite our students to realize their full potential through innovative, real-world learning, and handson training in engineering and computer sciences.
WORKING TOGETHER
TD Bank Financial Literacy Lab Through a generous donation from the TD Bank Charitable Foundation, this school year, Cristo Rey Philadelphia launched a new course for sophomores and seniors — Financial Literacy. The curriculum was developed with the help of supporters and business partners to teach students the basics of budgeting and money management. The course is the second project basedlearning course to be offered at Cristo Rey Philadelphia as we continue to adopt 21st century teaching methods. Our new school will be home to the TD Bank Financial Literacy Lab, which will continue and expand the course curriculum and offering. The course will be available to not just students, but to families and the community to help support the neighborhood in breaking the poverty cycle.
On Monday, August 27th, Cristo Rey Philadelphia held its inaugural “We Serve Day,” in our new neighborhood of Tioga. Students, faculty and staff, community members, and the Travis Manion Foundation joined forces to help clean the sidewalks and streets surrounding our new school location at 17th and W. Allegheny. In addition, some students visited our new neighbor, Thankful Baptist Church, to help clean inside the main sanctuary. It was a day of hard work and commitment in a joint effort to create a safe, clean, and healthy community.

identified as a need by students and faculty through focus group discussions in the early conceptual design phase of the project.
The spaces are designed to bring people together and encourage dialogue, creative thinking, and collaboration. The design will provide flexibility in social learning and further prepare students for college campus life by emulating learning spaces on college campuses.
We are looking forward to continuing “We Serve Day” each year and becoming active members of the Tioga neighborhood. “Cristo Rey is a great family environment that includes the students in many activities and decisions.
