THE HISTORY In the 1920s, 1705 West Allegheny Avenue was a lively tricycle factory owned by A. Mecky Company. Today, we are bringing this factory back to life!

A. Mecky Company was started by August Mecky in 1883 and the factory at West Allegheny Avenue was built in 1910. A. Mecky Co. manufactured a wide array of children’s vehicles, including “baby buggies,” pedal cars, scooters, toddler bicycles and automobiles.

THE VISION

The most popular product was the Velo-King Velocipede Tricycles.

The Philadelphia factory closed in the 1930’s when A Mecky Co. was sold to E.C. Brown in Rochester, NY, but the Velo-King line continued to be successful.

Tricycle Collectors around the world value these tricycles and one is residing at our current campus today!

THE NEIGHBORHOOD

We are building a new state-of-the-art campus at 17th & West Allegheny Avenue. The 100,000 sq. ft. campus, covering seven acres of land, will be 50,000 sq. ft. of new building and 50,000 sq. ft. of restored building.

The new campus will have the hallmarks of a top-quality high school that our current campus lacks: • Science labs

• Regulation sized gym

• STEM Engineering Lab

• Athletic fields

• Fitness center

• Outdoor courtyard

• Family room

• Art room

• Chapel

• Dining hall

• Parking

Nicetown Boys and Girls Club, Black and Nobel bookstore, and Tioga United: these are just a few places in the Tioga Neighborhood that strive to give back to their community — a community soon to be our new home. And that we too, aspire to give back to.

Our admissions office is working with the community to increase the enrollment of students from the neighborhood. The new school campus will also offer spaces and programming to support adult education, financial literacy, physical fitness, and other community needs.
