This project located in Barcelona, Spain aimed to re-inhabit Poble Espanyol by learning from its well-designed urban layout and incorporating a contemporary layer to meet modern needs and lifestyles. The focus was on exploring the "hidden faces" of the site and implementing a strategy of new lifestyles, introducing beneficial transformations to connect the enclave with the city's dynamics. The studio's focus included a reflection across scales of architectural design and fostering a lifestyle that harmonizes intimate, private, collective, and public spaces.

This Accelerator/Incubator, located on the new 78th site of Chicago, is designed to provide a hub for spin-off ventures emerging from the new Discovery Partners Institute, offering workspace, assistance, and social environments. The design focuses on promoting collaboration, exchange of ideas, and innovative work setups to foster creativity and growth.

This mixed-use residential tower designed for the up and coming 78th neighborhood of Chicago would serve to encourage intergenerational equity at this riverfront parcel. Joining together different age groups, cultures and ethnicities in a nurturing and welcoming environment with the goal to foster the generations to come.

When designing a market for the neighborhood of Poblenou in Barcelona, Spain, I chose to combine interior and exterior spaces through the use of various courtyard spaces poking through the building while also incorporating the existing historic chimney on site. Studying abroad in Barcelona during this project allowed me to experience the importance of this connection to nature and openness.

We designed a living + working apartment building in a short two weeks located in the neighborhood of Poblenou in Barcelona, Spain. The building was divided into three separate programs serving as living spaces, work spaces, and the circulation connecting these two uses. While this allows the residents or renters to work on site, there is also a fine separation between the physical spaces to set boundaries to better quality of life.

The Center

With a focus on community and sustainability, my community center connects the highrises and low-rises of Los Angeles with the centrally located site. As a resource for the neighborhood, The Center provides a space for education, recreation, entertainment, and socialization in both interior and exterior spaces.

Verdes Vistas

Champaign, Illinois

Verdes Vistas is a multi-unit housing development project which promotes healthy living through a connection to nature, natural lighting, and surrounding views. The complex has a variety of studio and one to three bedroom units with a central courtyard located on the roof of the first floor.

Studio Unit Design

Focusing on healthy living, I designed a studio unit layout which encourages better physical and mental health as well as healthy nutrition through the use of a garden wall, natural lighting, and flexible layouts.

Interior Perspective Hybrid Sketch

With the primary mission of education, public awareness, and outreach, I designed a Food Gardens Co-operative in downtown Champaign. My final design incorporates an outdoor plaza embraced by the building which includes various balcony spaces to create stronger connections with the interior and exterior environment. The library spans over the main entrance to the plaza and above resides the roof garden for the community.

M-M Growth - Water Infiltration Study

For the water infiltration study of the 21 Milk Street building in Boston, I drafted a roof plan as well as a picture elevation that I constructed using twelve different perspective photos taken from street level of the facade. These were then used to take field notes documenting the existing issues and points of repair.

When working as an architectural intern at Kluber, I performed a site visit to note the existing conditions of the Metra Station roof in Glenview, Illinois. With this information, I created plans, sections, and elevations denoting these needed repairs.

While abroad, I participated in multiple photography workshops where I learned various methods and techniques on capturing the built environment through photographs.

Sketching

Using various art mediums, I was able to practice a variety of sketching styles through the well crafted drawing sessions while abroad. With more time and practice, the foundations for these skill that I learned will allow me to quickly convey ideas and analysis of architecture by hand.

Watercoloring

While abroad I was also able to experiment with watercolors to capture scenes using tonal values with and without color. This additional skill to sketching helps to add another layer of creative freedom and expression in capturing or conveying ideas.
