GRIND MODE CUT PARTY 3 On April 29, 2018 the owner of Futurlistic Salon and Barber Shop, Robert Murphy, hosted his 3rd Annual Grind Mode Cut Party. This party was held at Elite Bar & Grill in Jackson, TN. The Grind Mode Cut Party gave local hair stylist and barbers a chance to showcase their talents. Featured stylist and barbers were Tanya “Hair Diva” (Jackson, TN), Ray “The Hair Guru” (Nashville, TN), Skyler “Quick Weave King” (Humboldt, TN), Carla J (Little Rock, AR), Le’Vella Wise (Clarksville, TN), Nikita Jones “Da Hair Slayer” (Jackson, TN), Joy Walker “Da Stylist” (Brownsville, TN), Nay’s Unique Stylez (Bolivar, TN), Schvonnta Stylz (Jackson, TN), Barron “Fabulos” Rogers (Jackson, TN), Big Yella “The Barber” (Nashville, TN), Calvin “Da Barber” (Nashville, TN), Slim “The Barber” (Nashville, TN) and Maurice “Feather King” (Little Rock, AR). The hosts for the evening were C.C. Campbell and B. Martin. D. J. Pat had the music on point for the night.

During the party each stylist and barber had 15 minutes to show off their cutting skills on one or two models, while having fun. Summer Camps, Science of Rock N Roll and New Events Head the List of Reasons to Visit Discovery Park of America this Summer UNION CITY, TN- The summer 2018 is shaping up to be full of educational opportunities and new activities at Discovery Park of America in Union City.

Having recently hit the milestone of one-million visitors in the first four years, organizers at the park say that their goal is to continue to give people a reason to visit the park by offering new and different experiences. There are several highlights this summer that should create a buzz in the region, according to CEO Jim Rippy. “We have new opportunities through both our Education and Event Departments,” Rippy said. “And we plan to help people get around the grounds easier by adding trolleys this summer,” he added.

EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES- For the first time, Discovery Park of America is offering summer camps for children. There are four distinct and different summer camps available. The first one is a one-day camp on July 7th called “Minecraft.” Educational Specialist Russell Orr said that children ages eight through twelve will have the opportunity to see things that they have experienced playing Minecraft come to life.

July 10th – 13th the park will offer LEGO Camp. This camp is for children ages six and up and will meet from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each day. July 17th through July 20th children six and up can attend one of two Storytelling Camps. Children signing up for the Storytelling Camp will meet for a couple of hours each day and “build a story.” The final summer camp will meet from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. July 24th through the 27th and will focus on all things “Dinosaur.”

The content of this camp is geared for children ages six through nine. Park members get a reduced rate when signing up for any of these camps. These daycamps have a limited number of spots available, so parents should sign up early to insure that their child gets to attend. Additional information can be found on the park’s website.

Educational Director Polly Brasher said that there are monthly educational offerings at the park including Saturday Morning Science, Family Education Series classes, Kid’s Create Art Classes, Stargazing and weekend long events like Civil War Days and Military Living History. “Discovery Park offers parents and grandparents the perfect opportunity to foster learning in a fun environment this summer,” Brasher said. “In addition to the website, we have an Annual Calendar of Events that we are happy to mail to anyone who request it,” she added.

SPECIAL EVENTS: Park officials are super excited about the Featured Exhibit that will be open at the park throughout the summer called “The Science of Rock N Roll.” This exhibit is sponsored by WENK/WTPR, KF99/KQ105, B104.5 and Froggy 103.7. The technology that has created the music since the early 1950s will be featured in this hands-on interactive exhibit. Guests can experience the production studio and play instruments as they learn about the technology behind rock n roll. This exhibit will be open 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday all summer.

New for 2018 is the “Member’s ONLY” Park after Dark set for June 15th. Event Director Lauren Jones said that this fun event might be worth purchasing a membership to attend! “It is a rare opportunity to experience Discovery Park of America at night,” Jones said. “We will make it extra fun for families by having all the special attractions open, bounce houses up, unique food options and special treats throughout the park that night,” she added. According to CEO Jim Rippy, Discovery Park of America is a great place to visit every day. “But with the addition of our trolleys, our summer camps and our many events, we expect to have a great summer at the park,” he added.

Memberships are just $30 for ages four through twelve and $60 for ages 13 and up. “The annual membership offers unlimited general admission into the park,” Rippy said. “And with the new one-half million dollar Children’s Discovery Garden this is a great place to spend the summer if you have children,” he added.

Discovery Park is a unique venue with a mission of educating children and adults and helping them see beyond their current level of knowledge. Discovery Center is the flagship of the park with its nine distinct galleries featuring Natural History, Regional History, Enlightenment, Transportation Gallery, Military Gallery, Children Exploration Gallery, Science Space & Technology Gallery and Energy Gallery. Additionally, there is an Earthquake Simulator, Starship Theater and popular Observation Tower inside Discovery Center.

The Grounds at Discovery Park offer a Log Cabin Settlement, Ag Center, Mill Ridge, European Garden, Japanese Garden, American Garden, The Chapel, Antique Full-Size Train Exhibit, Freedom Square and lovely venues for parties and weddings.

ROSE HILL SCHOOL PRESENTED ANNIE JR..

Along with the Rose Hill Art Club’s New York Trashion Week On May 1, 2018 the students of Rose Hill School showcased their acting and models skills during their presentation of Annie, Jr. and New York Trashion Week. Several Students auditioned to participate in the production of Annie Jr.. The amazing cast touched our hearts while telling the classic story of Annie “The Orphan”, who wants to leave the orphanage to find her “real” parents. This musical follows Annie, played by Brynlee Merriweather, as she finds a home and love with a millionaire Mr. Warbucks played by Khylin Cunningham.

Tennessee Department of Education Awards Funding for High-Quality Early Learning Opportunities in More Than 900 Classrooms Nearly All Districts Awarded Funding to Support Excellent Voluntary Pre-K Programs NASHVILLE—Education Commissioner Candice McQueen announced today that 18,320 students in 916 classrooms across the state will benefit from the Voluntary Pre-K (VPK) program in the 2018-19 school year. Nearly 95 percent of districts in Tennessee will receive VPK funding designed to serve 4-year-olds who are at-risk and those in high-priority communities.

In an effort to ensure the program provides children with a high-quality opportunity to develop school readiness skills and a strong foundation for learning, the application process was revised in 2017 to align with the department’s definition of excellence in Pre-K. Pursuant to the requirements outlined in the Pre-K Quality Act of 2016, VPK funding was awarded on a competitive basis in order to provide consistently high-quality VPK programs that prioritize serving students from low-income families.

“It is important that we set our students up for academic success from day one with high-quality early learning opportunities, especially for those students with the greatest need,” Commissioner McQueen said. “By supporting 95 percent of our districts with excellent Voluntary Pre-K classrooms, we will allow more students in Tennessee the opportunity to build a strong foundation from which they can jump-start their academic journeys.”

To ensure VPK funds are used to maximize and increase student outcomes, the funding is based on program quality standards, including: • full enrollment in programs serving the highest-need students; • use of a quality curriculum aligned to the Tennessee Early Learning Developmental Standards for 4-year-olds; • consistent, positive and responsive student-teacher interactions; • instruction that reflects an integration of standards and builds deep content knowledge.

• use of student outcome data to improve instruction; • frequent classroom observations with job-embedded support for pre-K teachers; and • family outreach to maximize enrollment and support at-home learning.

The department believes it is important to give districts the support and training necessary to improve the quality of VPK programs. In the coming weeks, all districts that applied for VPK funding will receive district-specific, narrative feedback on each section of their application, as well as targeted supports based on areas of growth noted on the application.

The competitive application process is one of many targeted updates the department is undertaking to ensure VPK funding is utilized to support high-quality pre-K programs across the state. As the department continues to make pre-K program quality improvements, we will continue to partner with districts across the state to measure program quality and to provide strategic professional development and support.

Actually, no one will be annoyed in heaven. That’s part of the baggage we’ll leave behind.

“I think heaven will be peaceful,” says Mackenzie, 8. “We will never see darkness again. Also, we will never fight, and everybody will be happy. Nobody will be weak or tired, not even the grandparents. We will see Jesus!”

Yes, heaven will be peaceful because the Prince of Peace will be reigning and ruling over his rightful domain and in the hearts of his people. True peace is a condition of the heart. People who don’t make peace with God will always be restless.

Mackenzie also mentioned that darkness will take a permanent holiday. Why? Jesus will be the light of the New Jerusalem. The sun will never set on his glory. The light of the Son will replace the light of the sun (Revelation 21:23).

“Heaven is nothing like Earth,” says Claire, 10. “There are no scary dreams, no thunderstorms and no bullies. I imagine streets of gold, a beautiful landscape, high mountains and fresh green valleys.”

God’s grace is so overpowering that it can transform bullies. Even the toughest bullies who get a glimpse of God’s power can humble themselves before him and start treating people with respect.

When oil monopolist John D. Rockefeller died, someone asked his accountant how much he left behind.

“All of it,” he said.

At death, all accumulated wealth and power on Earth are left behind in a moment. When Jesus said the first will be last, and the last will be first in his kingdom, he wasn’t kidding. Part of heaven’s glory will be the prominence of Christians who lived their lives in light of heaven’s rewards.

The Scripture says Moses, who was raised as an Egyptian prince, chose rather “to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin” because he valued treasures in heaven more than treasures in Egypt (Hebrews 11:25-26).

Everyone gets to heaven the same way: faith alone in Christ alone. Eternal life is a free gift, but rewards are earned. Whatever Moses saw of heaven’s rewards outweighed the glory of anything Pharaoh could offer.

I believe Anna, 9, has seen something of heaven’s glories when she says: “Heaven will be like the dream I always wanted to dream. The streets will be paved with gold. I will see my Grandpa running, happy and young. Little angels will be playing in fields. The gates will be made of pearls.

“You will never have to worry about cavities or what you eat. Maybe God’s castle will be made out of tiny rose buds. There won’t be any darkness. All the houses will be made out of rhinestones that shimmer. The picket fences won’t be made out of wood but sunflowers. There are flowers everywhere, some that you have seen and some that you have not seen.”
