Man charged in north Jackson member of Gangster Disciples sentenced to 30 years Jackson shooting 505 S. Bells St., Alamo, TN

September 19, 2018ÊÊWBBJ 7 Eyewitness News Staff JACKSON, Tenn. — A Jackson member of the Gangster Disciples has been sentenced to 30 years on charges of racketeering conspiracy and gun charges.

Tommy Champion, 29, also known as “Duct Tape,” was sentenced this week in Memphis after pleading guilty to the charges.

Champion is one of 16 men from Jackson and Memphis who were indicted in a racketeering and conspiracy case in 2016.

Champion was part of the gang’s “blackout squad.”

The U.S. Attorney’s office says he and others on the “security team” were responsible for multiple violent acts, including attempted murder, witness and victim intimidation, assault, and other crimes at the direction of Gangster Disciple leadership.

Champion’s sentence includes a charge related to an attempted murder involving seven victims in Jackson from June 2014.

September 24, 2018ÊÊWBBJ 7 Eyewitness News JACKSON, Tenn. —ÊPolice arrest a man following a shooting in north Jackson.

Telleous Currie appeared Monday in Jackson City Court. He is charged with reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon.

Police say Currie is accused of opening fire Sept. 20 outside an apartment building near Tinker Hill Cove and Brianfield Drive.

Investigators say a vehicle was hit, but no one got hurt.

Officers say they found a shell casing in Currie’s truck that matches casings found at the scene.

Currie is being held at the Madison County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.

POSTED 6:02 AM, AUGUST 21, 2018 - wreg.com Tamika and Teriqka Brewster MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A mother and daughter duo were charged with serious felony crimes after allegedly stealing from an 89-year-old woman.

Tamika and Teriqka Brewster were both arrested on Monday and charged with identity theft, forgery and theft of property. Their alleged crimes came to light after the elderly woman’s bank contacted her in June saying someone had deposited her checks into a separate account.

That account reportedly belonged to Tamika Brewster.

The victim said that’s when she noticed that several checks were missing from her check book.

Police didn’t say how the Brewsters allegedly obtained the checks, but did confirm surveillance video at their bank captured Teriqka Brewster depositing them into her mother’s account.

The mother then withdrew the money from the account, police said.

In all, the pair allegedly stole $3,600.

Both later confessed to their roles in the crime.

WOMAN ACCUSED OF CRITICALLY INJURING JUVENILE WITHÊIRON POSTED SEPTEMBER 24, 2018 wreg.com Kierra Rodgers MEMPHIS, Tenn. —A 24-yearold woman was arrested after allegedly critically injuring a relative with an iron.

The incident happened in the 4900 block of Royston Lane Saturday evening.

According to police, Kierra Rodgers returned home from dinner around 7 p.m. and walked upstairs to get ready to go back out for the evening. At some point she and the male victim reportedly began arguing and eventually started “wrestling” each other in the upstairs hallway.

Police said the 24-year-old became tired of “playing.”

That’s when she said she grabbed the iron and threw it up in the air. It struck the juvenile’s head on the way down, she said.

The juvenile was rushed to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

Rodgers was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault.

COUPLE CHARGED IN FATAL NASHVILLE SHOOTING 9/24/2018 - Nashville, TN -- Craig Hodge Jr., 29, last Friday, surrendered to the MNPD on outstanding warrants charging him with criminal homicide and attempted murder for last Sunday’s fatal shooting of Michael Battle, 23, in a parking lot next to the Music City Lounge at 1115 Dickerson Pike.ÊÊÊÊÊÊ According to witnesses, two women got into an argument in the parking lot when a gunman opened fire at 1:15 a.m., striking one of the women in the leg and Battle in the chest.Ê Battle and the female victim were both transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where Battle died. The woman is recovering.ÊÊÊÊÊÊÊÊ The gunman and the other woman involved in the argument, identified as Raesha Johnson, 30, fled in a dark colored sedan.Ê Johnson surrendered this morning to the MNPD.

POSTED 7:55 AM, SEPTEMBER 25, 2018 - WREG.COM Pareisha Johnson MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 30-year-old woman was taken into custody after being accused of having sexual relations with a family member.

According to police, they received a tip that Pareisha Johnson was having sex with a teenage family member.

Police said they brought Johnson in for questioning at which time she confessed to performing oral sex on the juvenile in the living room of her home.

Johnson was charged with aggravated statutory rape. She was released from jail on a $5,000 bond.

READER RESPONDS Thank you for including me in this question and I am sorry for not responding immediately.

I am probably the least likely to give you a correct answer but I can give you an opinion. Ê Mr. Bowers has been associated with radio for years and I can tell you that the pay is not that great and, in his defense, it is not against the law to hold two jobs if his main position of income does not object and apparently, they have not.

Secondly, unlike my friend George B. and myself, he has maintained a good working relationship with JEA, West Tennessee Health Care, and the city of Jackson, the trifecta of government growth, even during hard times.

I know this doesn’t really answer your question because I am only slightly familiar with his second job.

I have never been invited to his show and really don’t know how it is funded except that I am sure there is some advertising dollars flowing through the coffers. If that is the funding, then it is free enterprise at work.

So technically, your argument shouldn’t be with Mr. Bowers who is attempting to help his family as best he can........ Maybe the question should be: why does JEA, West Tennessee Health Care or the city of Jackson advertise with any station since all three are municipalities and those funds come from taxes, even though they might disagree. Remember those organizations have little to no competition? ÊJust asking.
