26-year-old Lamonteisha Johnson was charged with assault when she started beating a Dollar General employee with a four-foot ice scraper.

On April 11th, Lamonteisha Johnson and an unidentified person walked in Dollar General at 6009 Charlotte Pike and were noticed by Bobbi Ivory, who says she is a “known shoplifter” at that location. Ivory was spotted by Johnson and she began “having words” with Ivory. Ivory, in an attempt to ignore her, continued to check out other guests from the store.

JACKSON, Tenn. — Patrick Merriweather (r) appeared in Jackson City Court Tuesday morning.

He’s accused of shooting Saving The Animals Together president Wendy Pickett, and stealing her belongings.

Court documents reveal there were two calls to police Saturday. The first call was made by Wendy Pickett. She was checking on her mother’s vacant property when she found Merriweather sleeping in a bedroom upstairs.

“She pulled out her gun for her safety and ordered Merriweather to wait with her while she called the police,” Judge Blake Anderson read aloud from the court documents.

The officers said they issued a misdemeanor citation for trespassing and released him.

Then an hour later, they were dispatched to the same location. This time for shots fired.

“On arrival, officers found Pickett sitting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle, suffering from several gunshot wounds. Pickett had an empty gun holster between her legs,” Anderson read.

Pickett had two gunshot wounds to the the head, another to the shoulder, and another to her leg.

In the past greenhouses were only seen at nursery and farm essential establishments. However, they are now seen in residential yards and range from small to full size. There is no size limit and can be constructed in a very small area of the yard.

The beauty is that you can farm year around and raise your own seeds, save money and have fun in the process.

Believe it or not seeds are becoming difficult to find during planting season. I was searching all of my favorite seed stores and they had all had run out of seeds. The store employee jokingly told me that people were raising gardens who have never even been in their own backyard.

Although it was a joke there was a lot of truth in it. Having a greenhouse means that you control what chemicals are in your foods because you can rest assure that store bought food nearly always contain some type of harmful chemicals.

So why don’t you join many Americans and get out to The Great Outdoors of West Tennessee and explore your own backyard.

Greenhouses are easy to construct and well worth the effort.

Tyrone Willilams MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Mid-South man was arrested and charged after authorities said he was ordered to kill a jailer by one of the inmates.

Tyrone Williams was charged with attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm after reportedly carrying out the attack for his uncle. He’s accused of shooting at a jail employee last Thursday near the victim’s home.

The jailer’s car was riddled with bullets and one of the rounds hit him in the leg.

According to court records, the shooting happened just hours after Williams’ mother recieved a call from her brother at the jail. He reportedly mentioned throwing a “house party” at the victim’s address. WREG.COM

MAN ‘SPARTAN KICKS’ WIFE IN CHEST AND OFF FRONT PORCH WHILE SHE YELLS FOR HELP August 22, 2020Seth Gann 22-year-old Jarryn Forbit was charged with domestic assault after he aggressively pulled his wife’s hair and when she went outside to yell for help, he kicked her in the chest causing her to fall off their front porch.

On August 17th, Officer Cassford arrived atÊ205 Centennial Drive after receiving a call. Cassford first talked with Michaela Williams who told police that her husband, Jarryn Forbit, put his hands and feet on her during a heated argument.

Williams told police that Forbit followed her into the bathroom and pulled her hair aggressively. Being in fear for her life, she decided to go out on the front porch. While yelling for help, Forbit came outside, kicked her in her chest and onto the ground, and knocked the wind out of her.Ê Forbit was arrested and charged with domestic assault. Nashville - 08/19/2020 - Janel Helms 26-year-old Amanda Johnson was charged with assault after macing the face of a Tiger Market employee when he tried to retrieve stolen juice from her friend.

On August 14th, officers responded to the Tiger Market at 3200 Clarksville Pike for a shoplifting call. Calvin Armstrong, an employee at the store, told officers he had seen Sandreka Claybrooks walk through the drink aisle, take a juice, and leave without paying. Armstrong followed the woman in an attempt to retrieve either the stolen item or payment. When he attempted to approach the white Scion she had gotten into, Claybrooks tried to punch him. -nashvillescoop.com

BROOKS SERVES AS DNC CONVENTION DELEGATE Jackson, TN ) Attorney, Jackson City Councilman and Tennessee Democratic Executive Committeeman Ernest Brooks II served as a delegate to the 2020 Democratic National Committee last week. He represented the 8th Congressional District in Tennessee voting for Joe Biden as President and for the 2020 Democratic National Committee Platform. “Though we were unable to convene in Milwaukee because of the coronavirus, my first Democratic convention was a memorable one”, said Brooks. The Democratic National Committee made the decision early on not to host an in person convention in order to protect the lives on convention goers, vendors and workers.

This was the first all-virtual major party convention in the history of politics.

There were many highlights during the convention starting with a tribute to the Rev. Jesse Jackson on Sunday night with speakers such as Rev. Al Sharpton and California Congresswoman, Maxine Waters. The Tennessee Democratic Party hosted virtual breakfasts on each day of the convention showcasing many of the democratic candidates for State representative and State and US Senate. Notable speakers during the breakfasts were Senator Amy Klobucher, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Senator Sherrod Brown, former Attorney General Eric Holder and Presidential candidate Andrew Yang.

Over a span of about 30 minutes, viewers traveled to 57 states and territories and heard from teachers, small business owners, essential workers and elected Democrats. There was a fisherman in Alaska, a veteran firefighter in Connecticut and the father of a student killed in a school shooting in Parkland, Fla. And finally, after a virtual tour of America, there were Gov. John Carney and Senator Tom Carper of Delaware, standing at the Joseph R. Biden Jr. Railroad Station in Wilmington. There were many great speeches during this year’s convention. Former first lady, Michelle Obama argued that Joe Biden’s character, compassion and competency makes him a better choice in 2020. President Barack Obama delivered his harshest criticism he has yet leveled at Trump. His address, live from the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, under the backdrop of the US Constitution, was laced not only with his version of anger - “Donald Trump hasn’t grown into the job, because he can’t, “ he said – but also a certain level of fear. And Kamala Harris formally introduced herself to America as Joe Biden’s running mate. She shared a heartwarming story about her mother and how proud she would be at this moment as she became the first African-American women to be named to a major ticket. Joe Biden formally accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for president in a passionate, 25-minute speech delivered from his home state of Delaware.

Addressing the challenges facing the nation, including the coronavirus pandemic, climate change and economic uncertainty, Biden asked Americans to “entrust me with the presidency,” vowing to “draw on the best of us, not the worst.”

Brooks said, “I look forward to registering new voters, getting voters to the polls and most importantly, protecting those votes to ensure they are counted – our lives depend on it”

Deleterious Actions Spark Little Protest in Black Neighborhoods I really wasn’t sure where I was going with this article, but sometimes it’s best to just lay it out there and let the ink capture your thoughts.

Earlier this year, the world watched as a Black man was ‘murdered’ by the police in Milwaukee, WI. “I can’t breathe,” the now infamous last words of George Floyd, became the rallying cry for criminal justice and police reform all over the world.

Prior to that, Brianna Taylor was ‘murdered’ by police in Louisville, KY as she and her boyfriend lay in bed inside their home.

You can chalk that one up to a bad case of mistaken identity or just plan sloppy police work. Whatever the case, the sister is dead and -to date- there has been no arrest and Louisville is still in a state of unrest; waiting on Justice.

This morning, after a day filled with self trepidation - I did not know how watching it would play on my mental psyche - I watched the cell phone recorded video of another Black man being assaulted and shot by the police.

I don’t know what it is about the police in Wisconsin that makes them so fast on the draw, but again, the world watched as they applied unnecessary force to subdue a Black Man. According to news reports, several witnesses claim that Jacob Blake - the victim- was breaking up a fight. When police arrived, he became ‘the suspect.’

After watching that video of Blake being mercilessly gunned down by a policeman, I thought about his three children who reportedly watched in horror from the back seat as the ordeal played out.

They witnessed first hand what their father probably told them a thousand times - “It rough out there in them street and stay away from the police.”

But what really captured my attention in the video of the shooting was the way officers worked franticly to keep Blake alive in the aftermath.

How ironic, I thought to myself, that they would employ every effort to keep him alive after pumping seven bullets into his back.

Again, peaceful protesters took to the streets demanding change and justice for Blake; their cry of outrage burning into the night.

Ignoring a 10 p.m. city-wide curfew, peaceful protest was overrun by anger and sections of Kenosha, WI was set ablaze in the furry. Vacant buildings and vehicles were burned and several businesses were looted.

A few weeks ago, I watched a video of a fight that escalated into a shooting and murder in a span of a minute and twenty-eight seconds. Black on Black Crime!

We must attack the problem of systemic violence within our own communities as vigorously as we denounce systemic racism in others.

We must begin to place grater value on our own lives and stop the deleterious actions within our neighborhoods.

There was no protest march in the wake of the affore mentioned shooting. No looting or burning of buildings. No signs declaring “Black Lives Matter!”

Damn! Makes me wonder. -. Peace!

Hattye Yarbrough will be 99 years young on Saturday, August 18, 2018. You would think she was in her sixties by the way she gets around. She still lives in Covington, TN and plans on being at the program on Saturday to honor the late Isaac Hayes (aka Black Moses). I spoke with her for almost 1 hour on Wednesday and we still were not finished talking. Every time you talk with her she is dropping valuable knowledge.

She is an awesome person and role model. Her memory of history is beyond category. When she speaks, you will surely listen. As we celebrate her birthday this Saturday one of the things that will be the best present ever is if we took the time and reach out to our elders who are 70 or more years old and capture their history by recording it and then sharing it with others so that they too will be able to receive this wonderful knowledge. These individuals are “diamonds in the rough”. You don’t really know what you have until they start giving you their stories. History is important and we must start recording it.

I remember when the first Law Enforcement Explorers started, Thomas jumped right in and immediately serving as an officer for the youth educational group.

After I got into law enforcement I knew Thomas would serve well in any capacity he choose.Ê And he did a wonderful job as a State Trooper and now with the Sheriff’s Office.

Words cannot describe how loyal, honest and dedicated he is, I’ve always been blessed to call him my friend.

Thomas shared his comments on knowing Ricky Brown.Ê “I’ve seen my dear friend Ricky Brown overcome some of life’s most challenging obstacles and succeed,” said Prather. “When others even in school sometimes belittled him because of his love for law enforcement he always stood tall and spoke of what was right. Ricky always has a God given way of touching people in every segment of the community, he was bringing people together of all persuasions before it was cool.”

CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES ON NEW “MADISON ACADEMIC HIGH SCHOOL” Those traveling in the Lambuth Area Neighborhood Association are seeing daily construction of the new Madison Academic High School.Ê The school is being built by the City of Jackson on the University of Memphis Lambuth Campus.

The existing Madison Academic High School is projected to begin classes in the new facility by fall of 2021.

The new High School, expected to cost approximately $12.6 million dollars faces Lambuth Boulevard where Epworth Hall, a former residence hall, once stood.

Madison Academic which opened at 179 Allen Avenue in 2003, will be able to expand enrolling from appropriately 450-600.

The school will allow its students to take dual enrollment classes with the U of M, either with faculty at the Lambuth campus or through U of M Global, the University’s online program.

The Madison Academic baseball and soccer teams will have access to the outdoor athletic fields on the Lambuth campus, and the schools basketball programs will be able to play home games in the Lambuth gymnasium.

Through the partnership, Madison Academic students also will have use of other facilities on the campus including theater chapel and the library.

GIBSON COUNTY MAN CHARGED IN TBI CHILD ABUSE CASE Shewanna Gray-Cross AUGUST 18, 2020ÊÊWBBJ 7 EYEWITNESS NEWS STAFF JACKSON, Tenn. — A man accused of fatally shooting his mother at her south Jackson home on Sunday appeared in court Tuesday.

Curdarius Cross, 20, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Shewanna, on Sunday, August 16.

Court documents say Jackson police responded to a report of a shooting at the home, and found the back bedroom window broken and the back door partially open. Court documents say responding Cross was found dead in her bedroom from gunshot wounds to the head and body.

Officers also received a call to a home on Fleming Street, where a witness to the shooting was injured, according to court documents.

Curtarius Cross told investigators he was in his bedroom when he heard his mother scream, then heard multiple gunshots, court documents say. Curtarius Cross told investigators he looked out of his room and saw his brother, Curdarius, in the hallway with a gun, according to court documents.

Court documents say Curtarius broke out a bedroom window and ran from his brother. Curtarius told investigators he heard three or four more gunshots as he ran from Curdarius, court documents say.

Curtarius told investigators that he did not hear or know of any arguments between Curdarius and Shewanna Cross prior to the shooting, court documents say.

Curdarius Cross was arrested Sunday in Nashville, and court documents say he denied shooting his mother or being present at the time of the shooting.

Court documents say Curdarius Cross told investigator she left his mother’s house by noon Sunday.

Curdarius Cross is currently held without bond. He is scheduled to return to Jackson City Court on August 31 at 1:30 p.m.

MEDINA – Special Agents with the Criminal Investigation Division of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have arrested and charged a Gibson County man accused of causing serious injuries to a nine-year-old child.

At the request of 28th District Attorney General Garry Brown, TBI Agents joined the Medina Police Department in investigating the child’s assault after he was hospitalized on August 5th.Ê As a result of the investigation, Agents and investigators developed information that Tristan Newble (DOB: 3/23/89) was responsible for injuring the child at a home in Medina and a warrant for his arrest was issued for one count of Aggravated Child Abuse.

On Monday, August 17th, Newble turned himself in at the Gibson County Jail where he was booked on the Aggravated Child Abuse charge, as well as charges by the Medina Police Department.Ê His bond is set at $200,000.

At the request of 25th District Attorney General Mark Davidson, Agents began investigating the shooting that occurred at a party at approximately 3:30 a.m., Sunday, in the 1100 block of Brewer Road.Ê Tavaris Lewis (DOB: 10/4/2000) of Mason died at the scene from his injuries.Ê Two men and two women were also injured and transported to a Memphis hospital for treatment.Ê During the course of the investigation, it was determined Gregory Bonds, Tomarcus Baskerville, Martivus Baskerville, and Montaveen Taylor were responsible for the shooting.

Monday afternoon, TBI Agents, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Somerville Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Bonds (DOB: 4/22/90), T. Baskerville (DOB: 12/18/88), M. Baskerville (DOB: 6/27/94), and Taylor (9/11/00).Ê All four are charged with one count of First Degree Murder, four counts of Criminal Attempt First Degree Murder, and five counts of Employment of a Firearm during the Commission of a Dangerous Felony.Ê M.
