The “Rock Doctor” will appeal detention ruling The “Rock Doc” Jeffrey Young’s attorney Claiborne Ferguson formally announced Tuesday his intent to appeal Young’s current detention.

Young a nurse practitioner accused of prescribing 1.4 million pills and 1,500 fentanyl patches without medical need in exchange for sexual favors from patients was ordered to await trial in jail in his second detention hearing on May 20 This decision overturned the ruling of federal magistrate Jon A York, who allowed Young to be released on bond in late April and continue practicing Jeffrey Young medicine at his GeneXis clinic in Jackson.Ê ÊFederal attorneys said “Young was a “sexual predator” who should not be allowed to practice medicine and should not have kept his nursing license following York’s ruling.

In his May ruling to detain Young, federal judge John Daniel Breen said Young presents a danger to the community that no release conditions could address.Ê His decision was based upon extensive evidence provided by federal attorneys, including text messages between Young patients and employees and Young’s social media history.

Ferguson said “at the May 20 hearing that all of the evidence presented by the federal attorneys represented allegations but not proof of any illegal activity and many of the allegations were hearsay.

“There is nothing necessarily illegal about having sex with a patient” Ferguson said” he also repeatedly opined that the allegations against Young were being exacerbated by his enemies and ex-wife” Ferguson also said that a video entered into evidence of Young having sex with a seemingly semi-conscious woman may be unsavory to us, but it was not at this point (determined to be) illegal as there was no proof it was not consensual”

A FATAL WEEKEND SHOOTING LEAVES 1 DEAD July 7, 2019ÊÊBrittany Kyles wbbj.com GIBSON CO., Tenn. — On Saturday night around 7 p.m. Gibson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to calls of a shooting on 34 Napoleon Luther Road and found a teenage boy unresponsive.

Gibson County investigators said the 17-year-old victim had multiple gunshot wounds to his body.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies spoke to witnesses who said that an unknown black male approached the group of guys and proceeded to open fire with a handgun, shooting the victim.

The witnesses also said the shooter left the scene driving the victim’s car.

That car was later found just a few miles away from the scene.

Following interviews, deputies developed a suspect identified as 18Montarius Douglas year-old Montarius Douglas.

Douglas was last known to live in Milan. He is about 5-feet, 9-inches tall and about 150 pounds.

The Sheriff’s Office says Douglass is a self-admitted member of the Gangster Disciples street gang. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

BUSTED Monday night Agents assisted by Gibson County Sheriff’s Office, Milan Police Department, Jackson P.D. Aviation Division and the U.S. Marshal Service served a search warrant in the Sitka Community of Gibson County where a homicide had occurred over the weekend.

Agents seized two weapons from a convicted felon, opioids, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a large amount of gang paraphernalia.Ê One subject had outstanding warrants from Williamson County. 3 subjects either are or were in the custody of Sheriff Paul Thomas.

731-424-2250 Jackson Police need assistance identifying possible suspects Investigators of the Jackson Police Department are investigating a theft that occurred at 20 Johnson Creek Boulevard, Mapco Mart, and need assistance identifying these persons of interest.

On June 14th, surveillance video captures these black males entering the Mapco and stealing several cartons of cigarettes.Ê According Mapco employees, “none of the team members or guests were injured during the event.”Ê However, Mapco team members urge community members to help identify these potential perpetrators.

These persons of interest were last seen leaving the store in a gray Hyundai Veloster.

If anyone has any information that could assist in this investigation, they are urged to call 731-4258400 and ask for Investigator Listenbee or contact Crime Stoppers at www.jmcrimestoppers.org or 731424-TIPS (8477).

By Malorie Paine - CSENews July 10, 2019 -Parkview Learning Center will soon come under the direction of an outsourced education company that the Jackson Madison County School System hopes will improve academics.

Interim Superintendent Ray Washington said the wbbjtv.com school will remain in the district, but Ombudsman Educational Services will step in to oversee academics within the school.

“What we had before was in place for many years, and we’re just trying to do something different,” Washington said. “We want a different result, so we have to do something different.”

Some students attend Parkview for the entire year and may even graduate from the school while others only attend for a few months. The ultimate goal, despite how long a student is there, is to ensure all students maintain academic standards and are gaining an education, Washington said.

Ombudman will hire teachers and social workers for the school, but JMCSS will continue to have some staff inside the building throughout the school day, Washington said.

“We’re not just handing our students over to someone else,” he said. “The students are still students of the Jackson Madison County School System.”

The district will pay Ombudsman $680,000 for their services, according to a service agreement. The district Ray Washington would be saving approximately $300,000 by utilizing the outsourced company rather than providing their own staff and resources, Washington said. The extra savings will be utilized to increase career readiness for the students who are enrolled in the high school. Parkview high schoolers will take classes in two four-hour blocks where part of the day is spent on course work while the second block will be spent on career readiness and job coaching.

Parkview middle schoolers will continue to have 6.5 hour days focused on academics. Washington said he hopes that all students at Parkview will be able to benefit from the new setup.

While there are other companies the district could have chosen, Washington said Ombudsman’s reputation was a driving factor in their selection.

According to their website, Ombudsman has serviced more than 200,000 at-risk students since 1975. Ombudsman will maintain the academics through the 20192020 school year, and the agreement is renewable for up to two additional one-year periods, according to the service agreement. The agreement also states that if the district does not renew the contract after the first year, the district will be required to pay Ombudsman 10% of the first year’s fees, which is equivalent to $68,000.

The district has purchased 100 slots divided among high school and middle school positions, but these slots are able to be occupied by more than one student per year if a student is not enrolled for the entire school year.

1972 :Ê It Never Ends When Obama won his firs presidential election the first words out of my mouth were “ 40 years later, they finally elected George McGovern”. When Trump won the last election my thoughts were “ Am I the only person that noticed that it was the George Wallace campaign from 1972”?Ê In 1972 Richard Nixon was at the height of his popularity.

He was effectively ending the war in Vietnam, the economy was great, he had opened trade with China and the hangover from the Lyndon Johnson years was coming to an end. Nixon ran almost unopposed by any other republican candidate and hardly had to campaign at all.

On the other side of the aisle Senator Edwin Muskie from Maine was considered a virtual shoe-in as the democratic nominee. The wheels than fell off all the best laid plans. Running as a democrat, George Wallace was plowing through the democratic primaries early on. He carried the “solid south”, he dominated in the industrial “rust belt”,Ê he won not only Florida but every county in Florida besides Dade.

Then Arthur Brenner effectively ended the run by shooting him 5 times. Even so, Wallace continued to either win or place strong second in several primaries while lying in a hospital bed.Ê The appeal of Wallace was almost exactly the appeal of Trump. He polled strongly with alienated and dissatisfied voters, rural citizens, blue collar workers.

If you go back and listen he gave almost exactly the same speeches, touched on the same nerves and emotions as Trump.

I have to think that his (Trumps)Ê advisors had to have studied Wallace. What happened to Muskie? As odd as it sounds now, Edwin Muskie apparently wilted under the pressure of media questioning at a rally and according to those present including the press, began to weep openly. Later when he tried to explain it away as “melting snow running down his face” it just made matters all the worse. His campaign was pretty much over.Ê In a very weak field George McGovern emerged as the nominee through a series of deals andÊ closed door planning. McGovern immediately came to symbolize a candidacy of radical children, marijuana smokers, draft dodgers and hippies. Many democrats turned to Nixon rather than support him. He was supposed to usher in the “Age of Aquarius” only there was one problem: the Aquarians were just being born.

40 later years later they would vote. They would vote for McGovern. As it turned out McGovern picked Thomas Eagleton as his running mate apparently without vetting him at all. Within a week the press had discovered that Eagleton had been hospitalized 3 times in 12 years for nerves, had received psychiatric care, and had twice even been given electric shock treatments.Ê So do you think politics is crazy these days?Ê Despite being in the middle of the Watergate scandal Nixon won in the biggest landslide election in American history. He carried every state except Massachusetts. That’s right, he even carried McGoverns home state of South Dakota. All these feelings, these emotions these dreams would be relived in the next century.

McGovern and Wallace - each would have their turn. Neither would live to see it. We lived to see it. We each had our turn. Soon we’ll move on from 1972. Maybe.

Parkview operations to be 7 outsourced -- C ’ ONT D FROM PAGE

School board member Morris Merriweather said he voted in favor of outsourcing because he had lost faith in the school system to fix the alternative school.

Merriweather helped to create the school in 1985, and says it is one that is still near and dear to his heart even today.

“I was satisfied that I was turning over a program that I created to an organization that would do better than the previous and current situation,” he said.

While he supports the outsourcing, Merriweather said he is concerned over the amount of power any superintendent has to secure outsourcing for schools within the district.

“What happens if Mr. Washington wakes up one morning and decides he wants to outsource the whole district?” he asked.

“Some will say ‘oh, he won’t do that,’ but he could. I have a problem that any superintended has the power to decide something like this without the board’s approval.”

Merriweather said that he has asked Morris Merriweather other board members to address this by amending policy.

According to the services agreement between Ombudsman and JMCSS, the agreement will be in place for the 2019-2020 school year, and the agreement is renewable for up to two additional one-year periods. Jackson City Court’s “work clean up program” makes a difference!

The litter clean up program administered by the Jackson City Court continues to make a difference in the beautification of our city” Participants with the City Court work program shown here Saturday cleaning up the “right of way” with litter pick up and moving of the grass on Right of ways. This week crews worked the 45 By-pass area near Old Hickory blvd both moving of grass and litter and trash pick up.

“I’ve always appreciated and supported City of Jackson Judge Blake Anderson’s work clean up litter program which allows some city court defendants to work off their time with community services.Ê This program according to City Court Clerk Daryl Hubbard continues to be very successful to helping keep litter picked up from our city streets” plus saving the city taxpayers thousands of dollars in labor manpower cost” Each week Judge Anderson assigns participates to work 8 hours on a city street or right of way in the clean up of debris litter supervised the Jackson Police Department And City Court staff.

Both mentioned visiting Elvis Presley’s Graceland, interested in the Walking Tall McNairy County Sheriff Buford Pusser home and museum along with their friends at Century Farm winery here in Madison County.Ê They also mentioned the Old Country Store And their admiration for Legendary Rockabilly Star Carl Perkins .

As retired educators in a university level near Hollywood they shared with me entertaining Hollywood stars such as Raymond Burr (TVs Perry Mason) Clint Eastwood , Johnny Carson And many other have visited their vineyards.

Downtown Ricky Brown shared with them his growing up In McNairy County And his relationship with Sheriff Buford Pusser as a teenager in Selmer and meeting Elvis Presley during the funeral week. And even gave them a souvenir Walking Tall movie stick portrayed by the famous sheriff .
