MEMPHIS, Tenn. —A Memphis police officer who is accused of beating his girlfriend has been relieved of duty.

Shelby County deputies responded to the call Sunday afternoon at a home just outside of Cordova.

They say Officer Dennis McNeil’s girlfriend and her friend were going to get their nails done when he demanded she return his credit card.

She gave it back.

But the report says she accused him of texting a 19-year-old woman and then tried to slap him. That’s when things got violent.

Police say McNeil then grabbed the woman and threw her against a wall and banged her head against it three times. She claims McNeil then Gavontai McDonald threw her on the bed and punched her in the face with a closed fist.

The report says he then started to choke her and said he was going to kill her. The victim screamed out that she couldn’t breathe before her friend called 911 and yelled for him to stop.

Deputies say McNeil left the house with the couple’s 7-month-old baby. He later turned himself to authorities. The officer is charged with aggravated assault.

Police say McNeil has been with the force since 2014. He’s been relieved of duty while an investigation is conducted.

Nashville -- West Precinct detectives are investigating this afternoon’s domestic-related double murdersuicide at a home on Cana Circle in which a 65-year-old woman fatally wounded her 97-year-old mother and her 68-year-old sister before shooting herself. All three women died of gunshot wounds to their chests.

The deceased are identified as Rachel Andrews, 97, and Barbara Andrews, 68, who lived at the Cana Circle residence. The shooter is identified as Gail Andrews Miller, 65, who lived on Sneed Road.

‘POINT HIM OUT’: Dad goes with son to Memphis school, accused of assaulting student, woman By: Scott Madaus - FOX13 News - Nov 27, 2018 A Memphis dad was arrested after an assault in a high school gym, police said.

MPD said Michael McMillan (right) and his son walked into the old gym of Craigmont High School during after-school hours on October 26.

According to investigators, when McMillan walked through the door, a woman tried to stop him. But he pushed past her.

Police said the dad asked for his son to ‘point him out.’ The son pointed to a student on the bleachers and that’s when McMillan punched the student in the head twice.

During the assault, police said a woman tried to stop the attack and McMillan knocked her off the bleachers.

Both victims have pressed charges.

McMillan is charged with two counts of Simple Assault.

NOVEMBER 21, 2018ÊÊWBBJ 7 EYEWITNESS NEWS STAFF JACKSON, Tenn. — A man wanted by the U.S. Marshals Service and Jackson police has been captured.

Ereo Scates, of Bolivar, is now in custody, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Scates was wanted for firearms violations, narcotics possession and violation of probation. He was taken into custodyÊThursday by U.S. Marshals in an Atlanta apartment complex. Marshals say Scates cut and dyed his hair.

Nashville - 11/19/2018 Quick police response early Monday morning to an armed robbery at Thorntons, 4145 Lebanon Pike, led to the arrest of two suspects, Sergio Ortega, 21, and Cameron Carver, 15.

A Thorntons’ employee was in the parking lot at 2 a.m. when Carver and Ortega, both wearing masks and one armed with a knife, entered the store. The employee who Sergio Ortega was outside immediately called police. Once inside, the suspects then displayed the knife and what appeared to be a handgun. They demanded cash. The employees complied.

Both suspects were apprehended a short time after fleeing the store on foot. The stolen cash and knife were recovered along with an object that Carver admitted he held to make it appear as if it were a gun. Ortega also admitted his involvement in the robbery. Both suspects were positively identified.

Ortega is charged with aggravated robbery. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond. Carver is charged in Juvenile Court with aggravated robbery.

19-YEAR-OLD CHARGED IN ATTACK ON MOTHER, CHILDREN AT WHITEHAVEN HIGH Oquatis Harris POSTED 9:47 AM, NOVEMBER 23, 2018, BYÊERYN TAYLOR- WREG STAFF MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A young man was arrested on Thanksgiving Day after he allegedly took part in a violent attack on a mother and her children at Whitehaven High School.

The mother told police she went up to the school in early November after her daughter told her three females had assaulted her. The woman, her daughter and a son were walking around campus trying to find an officer when she said an unknown man approached her.

The conversation quickly became heated and that’s when the man lunged at her teenage daughter. The man picked her up by the throat and slammed her to the ground, she told police.

The mother said she and her son quickly went to her daughter’s aid but were also attacked by the man and two other unknown males. She told police the three suspects hit and kicked them several times.

Police were eventually able to identify one of the suspects as 19-year-old Oquatis Harris. He was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with three counts of assault. He has since been released on a $100 bond.

POLICE ARREST WOMAN ACCUSED OF LYING ABOUT ARMED CARJACKING NOVEMBER 26, 2018, BYÊWREG STAFF Jessica Blake MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman was arrested Monday for fabricating a claim that she had been carjacked at gunpoint, Memphis Police said.

According to the report, officers responded to a carjacking at Raines and Neely around 6:30 a.m.

Jessica Blake J essica Blake told the officers a man with a handgun approached her gold 2009ÊBuick Lacrosse, opened the driver’s side door and forced her out.

Police say Blake later admitted to investigators thatÊshe fabricated the carjacking to cover up the fact her vehicle was repossessed. She was placed into custody and charged with false reporting.

Delita Johnson of Jackson finished her doctoral program at Walden University on September 18th. Her degree was conferred October 28th and received mail November 20th, one day after her birthday!

The Jackson Madison County African American Chamberof Commerce held their Annual Holiday Business Mixer and Membership Meeting on Tuesday, November 20th, 5:308:30pm at the Cyber Cafe at Lane College.
