He is a member of the Boys & Girls Club and would tell me every day that he went coon hunting and I would ask him how many did they get. For about six or seven times in a row he responded “we didn’t get one”. I started wondering if he was ever gonna get one and I think he did also. I asked his mom April what the deal was and she said it was maybe a dog problem.

Turns out she was wrong and I was too. Last week he eventually came in with a big grin on he face and said “ we got one last night Coach”.

Riley has a Red Tick coon hound name Bella with a big nose and a good mouth bawling on the track who got the job done for him. Once PHOTO IS RILEY LUSK WITH HIS FIRST COON. they got to the tree and treed the coon Bella was baying and it was on becauseÊ success had finally been achieved.

It was his first coon and he was a proud young lad. Josh was happy, Bella was happy and most of all Riley was happy and couldn’t wait to tell me about the coon he harvested in the Great Outdoors of West Tennessee.

Local authorities and school officials respond to viral video of incident October 29, 2019Ê Brittany Kyles - wbbj-tv7 JACKSON, Tenn.–“They did not violate the policy,” said Madison County Sheriff John Mehr.

Sheriff Mehr said in this video the school resource officer took the appropriate actions with this student at Liberty Technology Magnet High School. “Would you yourself use that amount of force? I would in this case,” said Mehr.

Sheriff Mehr said there are many actions that took place leading up to the incident. In the video you can see 2 SRO’s on the bus.

One of them talking to the student asking her to get off the bus. As the SRO tries to cuff the student, the student kicks the SRO. The student was then maced picked up and removed from the bus.

“This one escalated for different reasons over a period of time,” said JacksonMadison County Schools Superintendent Ray Washington.

Washington said before the SROs were called onto the bus, an administrator tried talking to the student first.

“I’m not condoning what the officer did I’m just saying that’s how it occurred,” said Washington.

“All of them attempted to resolve this in an easy way, but the student evidently didn’t want to do it that way,” said Sheriff Mehr.

U OF M TRACK-AND-FIELD ATHLETE ARRESTED ON RAPEÊCHARGE BYÊMITCHELL KOCH MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A University of Memphis student-athlete has been arrested on a rape charge in East Tennessee.

Jerome Dooley, 20, is a sophomore track-and-field athlete at the U of M. He was arrested for an assault that occurred in July 2018 against an 18-year-old woman, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Jerome Dooley The victim was “physically helpless at the time,” according to the presentment. Dooley was a student at the University of Tennessee at the time of the assault.

Dooley was arrested Monday in Knoxville but has since been released on bond, the Knoxville News Sentinel reported.

Dooley is listed as a sophomore member of the track-and-field team on the U of M athletics website.

The U of M declined to comment on the matter, only sending WREG the following statement.

University of Memphis Athletics was made aware of an off-campus incident involving a student-athlete. We are fully cooperating with authorities, and no additional comment will be made while the investigation is ongoing.

Dooley’s arraignment is set for Nov. 14 in the Knox County Criminal Court.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER MORNING BARRICADE SITUATION NEARÊCROSSTOWN BYÊCOURTNEY ANDERSONÊANDÊNINA HARRELSON MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say a man is in custody after an argument led to a barricade situation and gunfire Sunday morning at a Crosstown apartment complex.

People living at the Overton Place Apartments on North Montgomery at Overton Park Avenue said they were evacuated as police tried to get the suspect to surrender.

Brinton Debiasi, 37, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. An AR-15 and Glock pistol were recovered, police said. Police said Debiasi fired a shot during the incident.

No one was injured, but a woman in the apartment told police that Debiasi was armed and had threatened to shoot her.

“They wouldn’t let us go back in the house or nothing,” said Maurice McClendon, one of dozens of people forced out of their homes for more than three hours when police say a man barricaded himself in an apartment and started shooting.

“I heard one shot,” he said.

Neighbors say they were awakened by police banging on their doors and telling them to get outside.

“For our Brinton Debaisi safety, they made everybody evacuate because there was an armed guy in the building,” Floyd Johnson said.

Before long, the entire block was shut down and teeming with investigators.

Let’s be clear, security in our schools are unique and we should have clear directives as to how we do it.

No child should be treated in this fashion and any officerÊ that has not been trained properly should not be in our public school system. These deputies and principle should be trained to handle situations of this nature. The JMCSS Policies and procedures should be reviewed immediately and if not proficient, should be brought up todate. No one should be hired in these capacities without proper training.

The Jackson Madison CountyÊ community need to recognize the total child that’s in our homes and in our care. They are not perfect but they are our children and should be cared for and respected. The local NAACP will do our best to ensure that all of our children.

MOVING FORWARD TOGETHER AT JMCSS If I were a parent of a student enrolled in JMCSS right now, I would share with my child what an exciting time it is to be involved in the changes that are currently taking place. It is important to remember the significant challenges you had to overcome to achieve the success you have dreamed about!

JMCSS is currently running parent workshops to help engage them in their student’s academic lives.

The district workshops are designed with the parents in mind. Also, I would like to remind you that TN Dept. of Education will be at Liberty Technology High School on Oct. 30 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. as a part of a six stop School Turnaround Listening Tour.

There are a lot of positive things taking place in Jackson and others across the state are beginning to take notice and want to learn more about the progress being made.

“Change takes courage. Change takes learning and vulnerability. Change means Don Polley you have to fight off the fiery darts that sometimes come your way when you are rising above mediocrity. But man are the kids and teachers worth it.” ~Robin McClellan During an earlier visit to JCM-ECH and L.O.O.P (Local Options and Opportunities Program) Governor Lee called those programs models that should be replicated across the state. Be watching for significant changes in the LAUNCH PROGRAM to make a splash very soon as our local Chamber of Commerce will be leading a pilot program which will be offered to selected schools in six pilot communities starting in January 2020. I will be offering more details on this in future articles but for the purpose of this writing let us just say TN-CAPS is a career awareness and preparation system. We should be very grateful to be one of six pilot communities across the state.

This may have contributed to our selection as one of the communities.

JACKSON CITY COUNCILMAN HARVEY BUCHANAN REQUESTS CONSIDERATION OF A NEW FOOTBALL STADIUM IN CENTRAL JACKSON MADISON COUNTY JACKSON, TENNESSEE, – I am writing to Jackson Madison County School Board Members and Members of the Madison County Board of Commissioners to consider building a stadium on the field behind the Jackson Oman Arena.Ê It is a perfect site for a stadium to be built with plenty of parking spaces. The community and I would like to see the stadium built in conjunction with the construction of Jackson Central Merry High School and Jackson Central Merry Middle School. It is an ideal situation for these projects to be completed at the same time. This will definitely revitalize and stabilize the community. The concept of building a football stadium behind the Jackson Oman Arena is not new. I had the pleasure and privilege of working with legendary coach Tury Oman (whom Oman Arena is named after) at the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson. Coach Oman presented this concept and idea to many political figures years ago but it was not given any consideration.

I am respectfully requesting that the Jackson Madison County School Board and the Madison County Board of Commissioners consider constructing a new football stadium to be built in conjunction with the new Jackson Central Merry High School and Jackson Central Merry Middle School.
